FINAL MASTER PROJECT
Design, development and testing of a wireless multi-channel EMG acquisition system
for galvanically powered implants
Description:
Electromyography (EMG) is a technique to measure the electrical activity of muscles. This is
useful for diagnosis of neuromuscular diseases, the control of man-machine interfaces (e.g.
prostheses), among other applications. For the past few years we have been designing and
testing microcontrolled injectable electrical stimulators powered by galvanic coupling. Because of
the ground-breaking results obtained so far, the European Research Council awarded our
principal investigator Antoni Ivorra the ERC Consolidator Grant. Together with other challenging
tasks of this project, we are currently miniaturizing the implant and adding EMG acquisition
capabilities to it.
Microcontrolled injectable stimulator (Ø = 2 mm) based on commercially available components and developed in the
Biomedical Electronics Research Group (BERG) at Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
We are looking for a highly motivated student to design and develop a proof-of-concept prototype
of a multi-channel EMG acquisition implant as his/her Final Master Project. The student must
have a BSc in engineering and very solid background in electronics. He/she should have
experience with analog electronics, instrumentation systems, microcontroller programming, PCB
design, LabVIEW, and Matlab.
