POTENTIAL RISKS

• There could be issues with computing, I could bring in my own personal laptop to prevent this. There could be risks with the printers in college, I could prevent this by going to any DISC's in college or by purchasing my own printer. There may not be many stores that I can research in, I could look online for research instead. My memory stick could break but to prevent any losses, I can save my work on multiple platforms to prevent this. I may not be able to gain industry specialized help, for this I could ask my tutors and peers for their thoughts and views on my work.

• Health and safety in computing

PROJECT RATIONALE

• I have chosen to create a unisex range for the brand COS as there is a niche in the market which I can implement my thoughts and range into. For my unisex range, I wanted to go for a more minimalistic approach whilst incorporating a Japanese street style in also. At the end of this assignment, I wish to achieve both a range that fits my standards and an article on how my range will change this generations views on both society and fashion in this day in age, I also wish to develop both my creative skills and journalistic skills when doing so. The specific outcomes will be the same also. I feel like this will aid me greatly when developing skills that I need to grow as a person. I wish to do fashion journalism in the future so creating the article will help me when showcasing previous work that I have done.

PROPOSAL PLAN – P1Proposal Plan

Review:For my Final Major Project, I will reflect upon my past assignments from this course to aid my development for my final outcome. On this course, I have learned many techniques that can develop my project to be the best it possibly can. I have acquired the knowledge from first-hand experiences in sectors such as range planning. In range planning, there are many subsectors that aid the development of the range, these can include applications such as Photoshop which creates the designs for both the final range plan and the moodboards to go with it. I will use these techniques in my FMP as a guidance as to what is expected. I will also include SWOT analyses of stores that are in comparison to my chosen brand. Compared to the initial start of the course, I have more knowledge within the buying sector and all the delicate subsectors that make the job as a whole. In the future, I am aiming to achieve to get a place in London College of Fashion in the Fashion Journalism sector. Within the time duration of the 3 years, I am aiming to go to Japan to develop my knowledge within their fashion community and hopefully journalise over there for magazines.

Rationale & Context:For my Final Major Project, I am going to be creating a range of 15 items, 10 will be garments and 5 will be accessories. The initial idea for my FMP was to create a unisex range for COS. The range is going to be minimal with Japanese street-style influential pieces. I am putting my range into COS as I feel like their garments are minimal and suit the idea of my garments well. I have chosen to create a unisex range due to the fact that there is a niche in the UK market that I can implement unisex garments into, many international countries already do unisex garments including Korea, Japan and America. This will bring in two types of new consumers, people who are influenced by Japanese street fashion, and people who prefer the more androgynous look. I will show my ideas creatively through moodboards and blogs. I will create numerous moodboards that symbolise the trends, fabric compositions and CAD designs that showcase the initial idea of my range. I will then showcase my ideas through a blog, this could include aspects such as reblogging Japanese street fashion, minimalistic garments and writing short articles on minimalistic lifestyles. As for gathering information, I will independently do comparison shops to similar stores online as my range is an online exclusive, rather than going in-stores. In buying, there will be many encounters that can diminish my chances of success but there are many ways I can counteract this by using creative solutions for my problems. This could include size ratios; for my garments, I could display them one at a time in a table with separate information based upon what size the garment is and how many garments I want in a specific colour way. I could compare moodboards and range plans together to ensure that they both match the criteria and specifications that I desire and if they don’t I can edit them both to my standards. Looking back upon the work I have completed to date, I will attempt to use this information to help me in my FMP, I could use my moodboard techniques, allocation techniques, ratios and excel formulas to aid me when creating my own range.

PROPOSAL PLAN – P2Development & Realisation

Methods:Some methods to use in my Final Major Project would be: Range plans, budgeting, spreadsheets, moodboards, comparison shops, SWOTs, customer profile(s), rationale, action plans, reflective diaries, WSSI spreadsheets, ratios, online allocation and store research.

Processes:Range plans would be the final outcome for my FMP, after doing all the research and procedures beforehand I will execute the range to a high standard. The budgeting will include subsectors such as Open to Buy, Like for Like, markdowns and even holidays. These will aid the financial stability of my range whilst allowing me to keep stock intake high. The spreadsheets will include aspects such as WSSI and range plan spreadsheets which will give us general information on RRP, cost prices and the quantity. Moodboards will show the creative aspects of my FMP, including aspects such as the CAD designs, trends and even key colours that I will be implementing into my range. The comparison shops will aid my choices of garments, quantity and even colour ways. SWOT analyses will show the various strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for not only my brand, but for other competitors. Customer profiles will aid the direction that I initially go in when creating my range as the customer is one of the most important factors in fashion, they can drive the sales and even have creative input into stores. A rationale is the overall plan for my FMP, this will be a basis that I plan to go off to execute my range whilst ensuring that I am sticking to my initial idea. Action plans will aid my weekly actions to ensure that I stay on target for my FMP by giving me designated time slots to do work both at home and in college. Reflective diaries will be my own personal blog where I can document my work both daily and weekly, I will also share images that are relevant to my FMP in my reflective diary. WSSI spreadsheets will determine the overall sales over the duration of 16 weeks, this will include sales, holidays and markdowns that can drive sales for the given weeks. The WSSI will also give me an overall idea of how many garments I will sell per week. The ratios will be a designated space where I decide the quantity of garments based upon the size and the store allocation. The store allocation will be decided upon how many consumers a certain store will gather in any given day / week, this can include both desolate and flagship stores but can also be heavily influenced by online stores. The sourcing research will aid me when gathering further information on any given store may it be a competitor or even my specific brand that I am working for, this could include information in-store or online.

Resources:For my Final Major Project, there will be many resources at hand which will aid me when finishing my overall range and evaluations. Photoshop will aid all my design aspects such as range planning, moodboards and CAD designs. The internet will be my first source of information regarding online stores and brand history. Excel, Word and PowerPoint will aid me when calculating, evaluating and presenting my work when it’s finished. An e-portfolio will aid me when showcasing my work for both university and any other methods of education / work that may ask for it. Books, or rather magazines, will be another source of information that I will use, this will aid me when looking for journalistic pieces regarding trends and Japanese street-styles. Blogging would be my main ‘diary’ as I will be showcasing and reviewing information on that regarding my FMP and what I can do to develop my work. Case studies would be a source to research existing articles, unisex ranges and anything regarding my work to aid my range path and avoid those mistakes made in the past.

PROPOSAL PLAN – P3

Evaluation & Progression:To review my progression in the duration of my FMP, I will create a reflective diary that will aid me in times of struggle so I canlook upon my completed actions which will be filled in once accomplished. The reflective diary will direct me to which work Ihave outstanding so I can complete it in a timely manner. I will also use my action plan to ensure that I am keeping up to date with my work, it will aid me when referring back to it due to the fact that I have set dates for work to be accomplished. I will ensure to manage my project fully ensuring that I stick to my action plan, my action plan is there to ensure that I stick to deadlines whilst still setting myself weekly targets. I will use this in conjunction with my reflective diary to determine my weekly strengths, weaknesses health and safety, and also areas to improve. When reviewing my reflective diary, I will be able to checkwhether I have any outstanding work to complete for that given week.

Dream Job Role – Fashion JournalistA fashion journalist’s job consists of primarily published media. Typical work includes writing and editing articles or helping / styling in a photo shoot. A fashion journalist typically spends a lot of time researching and conducting interviews, it is essential that they have good contacts with people in the fashion industry, including photographers and designers. Fashion journalists areeither employed full-time by a publication or are employed freelance. For my FMP, I will try to incorporate Fashion Journalism into it somehow. Many aspects of Fashion Buying are already included in Fashion Journalism such as comparative shops and gathering good contacts with people. In my FMP, I am going to do an article on my completed range depicting how it can “smashgender norms in the fashion industry.”

5

Page 18: Final Major Project Presentation

PROJECT OBJECTIVE

My objective is to create a unisex range inspired by Japanese minimalistic fashion that can be bought accessibly and affordably. The range will be put into the brand COS as that is the store I feel will benefit mostly from this. At the end I want to also create a mock article about how this range smashes gender norms in society. This project is primarily revolved around niches in the market and unisex garments are a niche. Usually you will see androgynous fashion but not actual unisex garments. This is what I decided to base my range upon.

ABOUT THE COMPANY & STANDARDS / PROTOCOLS - COS

COS is a world renown fashion store that comes under the umbrella of the famous H&M Swedish fashion brand. COS operates globally and to date has a total of 116 stores and an e-commerce in 19 markets at their website http://cosstores.com. The store currently sells only male and female garments. This company sources high quality fabrics and therefore has a price of a more luxurious budget at sweaters costing around £70 and jeans / pants around £60. COS thrive to achieve customer satisfaction by giving them what they want, minimalistic, stylish fashion at a good price. Online, COS summarises themselves in an ‘about’ section on their website:

“COS, Collection Of Style, is for women and men who want modern, functional, considered design. Since our launch in 2007, we have opened stores worldwide, each one placed in a carefully considered location with a design concept that preserves buildings’ original features whilst creating a modern gallery space for our collection. Always exploring our original concept of favouring style over fashion, we like timeless design that lives beyond the season. Merging traditional methods with new techniques and innovative fabrics, we work hard to create fashion pieces that look and feel at once classic and modern. We hope you enjoy the attention to detail shown in every garment and the wide breadth of inspiration that defines our collections.”

This indicates that COS care primarily about their consumer and their ‘image’ per say. They ensure that they keep both their stores and garments aesthetically pleasing for their consumer.

COS has many standards and protocols regarding many aspects of the fashion industry. One of the main aspects they focus on is company ethics. On the COS website it states: “We want our products to be manufactured under good working conditions. This is why we have a code of conduct. Our code is based on ILO's core conventions and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and includes the following supplier requirements: compliance with local labour law, statutory pay and working hours, the right to organise and bargain collectively, a ban on child labour, a ban on discrimination, a ban on forced labour, health and safety in the workplace, compliance with local environmental legislation”

Page 21: Final Major Project Presentation

SWOT ANALYSIS – BREAKDOWN FOR POSITIVITYHighly reputable store – COS is the well known umbrella company to the Swedish fashion store H&M. COS is well known for its luxurious minimalistic garments that suit any season and event. COS states that they work hard to “create fashion pieces that look and feel at once classic and modern.” Since the initial launch of COS in 2007, they have thrived in the fashion industry, creating countless outfits which look flawless, minimal and crisp. It is essential for a brand like COS to maintain its reputation as minimalistic fashion is rising in the popularity ranks. COS’s reputation is essential for both the longevity and the growth of the brand as a whole.

Known worldwide – COS is known internationally as is it’s hierarchy brand creator H&M. The brand as a whole aims to be known commercially worldwide to ensure that consumers know that what they want in a brand, is all at COS. Up to this date, COS has a total of 116 stores worldwide and an e-commerce of 19 markets at its online website http://cosstores.com. As the store is known worldwide and is as popular as it is, it is essential that they stock garments of a certain demographic in those given stores.

Unique gap in the fashion market – COS is well known for its minimalistic approach to garments, giving them a clean, crisp and sharp feel to them. COS also like to incorporate new fabrics on the market into their garments to ensure that consumers keep coming back to sample garments from their store. “Merging traditional methods with new techniques and innovative fabrics, we work hard to create fashion pieces that look and feel at once classic and modern.” It is vital that COS keep creating garments that differ them from other stores to maintain their consumer reputation.

Recent collaborations with Mr Porter – In the fashion industry, collaborations between two big names are rarely seen, this will create an influx of consumers from the brands in question. As COS and Mr Porter are of a similar garment and consumer demographic, this will aid the sales for them both and keep both companies thriving. It is also key to maintain relationships between ally stores.

COMPARISON SHOP - EVALUATION

After I have carried out my comparison shop, I have greater insight into what stores have to offer similar to COS. Looking in these stores has also helped me gain further knowledge into key shapes, colours and fabrics that get used in the garment creation process. I also gathered information on the kind of price range that my consumer will spend on ranges such as mine.

For my first comparison, I looked at Zara. I chose to look at Zara as I feel like they have a really good minimalistic feel and look going on both in-store and online. They are really similar to COS also. Their pieces come in simple, stripped back designs with the odd occasional colour way. I liked that their garments are stylish but still minimal at the same time. The size range varies from XS – XL which is good as my consumers are around that range.

I then looked at Acne. This is a more luxurious brand than COS so I could take more inspiration from this. Acne is one of the most well known minimal fashion stores there is. Their garments are created with the finest materials but they still manage to keep their garments crisp. The prices were a little more expensive than my consumer could afford but they could still purchase it if they desired to.

The final brand I looked at was Pull & Bear, the sister brand to Zara. Although Zara and Pull & Bear are connected, they are quite similar both in aesthetic and fashion. Pull & Bear have a more younger feel in their garments, having trendy slogans implementedinto their ranges but still managing to keep it minimal. The price range was a little under what COS consumers would spend but they definitely had the similar garment feel to COS.

In the end of my comparison shop, I will mainly go off Zaras price range as I feel like they are in conjunction with COS the most. In my comparison shop, I made sure that I used both male and female garments to ensure that I could get a good grasp on what garments are key items for my unisex range. Looking at the garments, I can see that there is a big gap in the market where I could implement many key shapes from ranges into an overall range that could be worn accessibly by both male and female.

DIRECTIONAL SHOP EVALUATION

In my directional shop, I chose 3 higher class brands that COS. I chose these brands as they are the most fashion forward stores that offer the latest trends in both androgyny and unisex. For Diesel Black Gold S/S, they offer the most luxurious fabrics and garments that can be work for both work and pleasure. The prices are around £100 for a t-shirt and £230 for shoes. Cotton and Cows Leather are mostly found in the fabric compositions of this store.

As for The Kooples, they are one of the most well known brands for androgyny trendy fashion. They are world renown to give people literally the best of both worlds. The fabric compositions of the garments are again mostly cotton. They also add in fabrics like merino wool and polyester. The prices are again a little more on the pricy side due to the fabric being such high quality. It is around £100 for pants and £300 for shoes.

The final brand that I chose was Lazy Oaf. I chose these as they are well known mainly for their unisex garments. Almost every garment in their store can be worn by everyone. They have more playful colours and always manage to stay on trend and even implement new brands into their own store. They recently brought in a Japanese brand which would be good for my brand as I am planning on using Japanese street influence in my range. The composition of the fabric is almost 100% Cotton for each garment. The prices are not as expensive as others but it is around £60 for a jumper, £35 for t-shirts and £40 for shoes.

SOURCINGFor my range, I am going to be sourcing my garments primarily from Turkey. I am sourcing from Turkey as that’s where COS originally sources garments from. Turkey is well known for their cotton farms and COS uses mainly cotton in their ranges. I am sourcing the shoes from China as COS also sources from Asia. China is well known for its plastic components and most of COS’s accessories, such as shoes, are primarily made of plastic. The shipping times will vary when I finalise my range and get ready for it to be created as the countries are both far away.

This is my critical path, I have given myself 10 months to prepare, design and create my range for COS. The shipping has taken the longest time out of my critical path due to the fact that such a large amount of garments has to be dispatched within a short period of time. This would take between 4-6 weeks. After this, I have given myself quite a lot of time to prepare for my product launch to determine how many sizes of each garment I have.

TREND RESEARCH

For my range, I have decided to go for the WGSN trend Past Modern. I have chosen to use thistrend as the colour palettes are darker earth tone hues, whilst staying suited for S/S15. The trendalso has minimalistic qualities to it with the clean cut garments and the soft silhouettes. I chose touse this trend as it fits in well with COS, COS tend to use minimal garment designs with darker /softer colour ways. This trend also has an androgynous feel to it, this will aid my creation of unisexgarments. On the WGSN website, the COS trend has this descriptive text before it:

‘The timeless qualities of historical and contemporary design are showcased with stripped-backproducts that bring together the old and new, with museums and galleries used as a contextualbackdrop.’

This fits in perfectly with COS as they also carefully select their stores to ensure that they have aperfect store and backdrop for their consumer. COS also use stripped-back garments as theirconsumer market thrives on minimalistic qualities. The colour palette of this trend is more earthyand crisp, thus making it a palette that can be implemented into any practical garment for bothmale and female, or in my case, both. The textures for this trend are more soft in contrast to thecolour palette. This will enable me to create a more durable range that is soft to the touch. Theinspiration for this trend is old historical pieces being

WSSI

29

This WSSI spreadsheet is an example of what it is like to sell an average of 305 garments per week throughout the duration of the 16 weeks it is available. In my WSSI I have such a high amount of opening stock due to my range being an online exclusive. I have added events from my events calendar that could have a possible effect on my actual weekly sales such as end-of-season sales and the start of summer. The events calendar is basically an information source of key events that could trigger a sale or an influx of sales in your range In a WSSI spreadsheet, if your garments sell out quicker than expected, the buyer will have an OTB (Open to Buy) budget which will enable them to purchase an intake of garments that will get them to the end of the season.

EVENTS CALENDARMonths Events Implications to Merchandising

March Springtime The new Spring/Summer collections will be at their peak buying time so there will need to be key items for the season displayed in windows, also any discount should be displayed.

April Weather turning point

Half terms

Weather could possibly get warmer and impact both in-store and online sales.

Adults could have breaks from work which could impact sales again both in-store and online.

May Early May Bank Holiday As a merchandiser, they will need to ensure that their

stock is well replenished as adults will be off work and

highly likely to go shopping. This will also be the start of

holiday shopping for most people.

June Summertime The official start of Summer will bring people in to buy

holiday clothes and clothes more fitting for the season.

This would be a great time to bring out sales of around

10-15% from the new ranges. People start to think about

going on holiday and buying garments for then also.

Page 47: Final Major Project Presentation

INDUSTRY COLLABORATIONS

A requirement for my FMP was to have some form of industry collaboration that could have an affect on my range. This could vary from asking questions about sourcing to how a store promotes their new ranges. As I went into the store and asked general questions, I couldn’t record my responses in any images or videos.

As I emailed COS and they replied saying that they couldn’t give any information out, I decided to go into H&M as it is the hierarchy of COS and they both have similar qualities to each other. I asked questions based upon what information I didn’t know, such as how they advertise ranges and such.

When H&M have created a new range, how do the company advertise it?• Generally, H&M will advertise their new ranges / collaborations on social

media and in high-fashion magazines such as Vogue. They sometimes create TV advertisements also.

How do H&M display their new ranges online?• They will put new ranges under the specific tab of choice such as

Menswear / Womenswear / Kidswear. There will be a header specifying if it is a new seasonal collection, but if not, they will just put it under a ‘New’ tab.

When would H&M put an S/S collection online?• Usually the S/S collection will be put online around late February / early

March as people start to purchase garments for S/S pretty early. As H&M offer new garments monthly, they will put out more summery garments towards June / July.

WRITTEN RANGE PLANI have chosen to design a unisex minimalistic Japanese inspired range for the brand COS. For this range, I decided to go for a S/S 2016 trend and disperse the stock for the beginning of spring. I chose the trend Past Modern specifically as it has a high influence of minimalistic garments and colours that would fit in nicely with both my inspiration and COS itself. COS generally have stripped back and simple garments whilst still staying fashionable so I kept that in mind whilst I created my range. As

For my customer profile, as I was doing unisex garments, I researched on 3 male and 3 female consumers and gathered information on what their preference and fashion influences were for their style and they primarily went for androgynous but a select few said they enjoyed minimalistic Japanese garments. After I had researched upon the Japanese street influence, I decided that the garments were similar to those of COS. This resulted in me creating a range inspired by both androgyny/unisex and the street style of Japanese minimalism. I have chosen these consumers as I feel like they would most likely shop at a store like COS due to their fashion inspirations and needs. When discussing the customer profiles, I also brought their income into it as COS is a reputable brand that uses fine quality fabrics which require a considerable amount for a garment.

As COS has both in-store concessions and an online store, they will both be released at the same time. I will be putting my range into stores on the 11th of March which is a Friday. I’ve chosen this day as it is just before the start of S/S. This day is key as it is when people start to purchase garments for the season up-and-coming.

accessories. I have 2 shirts, 1 pair of overalls, 1 pair of culottes, 2 pairs of shorts, 2 t-shirts, a jumper and a crop jacket. I then have 1 pair of shoes, two pairs of sandals, a belt and a pair of glasses. For my first shirt –the kimono style – the fabric composition is 60% silk and 40% cotton, it is available in one colour (one pink side one grey side.) For my second shirt – the flow sleeved shirt – is made of 70% linen and 30% cotton and comes in one colour way (pink with yellow sleeves.) As for my overalls, the fabric composition is 60% denim and 40% cotton and again comes in one colour way (black pattern.) The crinkle style shorts are 90% cotton and 10% linen and come in the colour ways light and dark grey and pink and yellow. The second pair of shorts are 80% cotton and 20% linen and come in both brown and light grey. The culottes come in one pink colour way and are 60% cotton and 40% chiffon. The knit short sleeved t-shirt comes in one colour way and is white with dark grey patterned sleeves and is 60% cotton and 40% cashmere. The second t-shirt comes in beige and brown and pink and yellow, the composition is 100% cotton. My knit jumper comes in one colour, light beige, and is 80% cashmere and 20% cotton. My final garment is my crop jacket and it comes in one colour way, light beige, and is made of two components, the shell is 60% viscose and 40% cashmere and the insides is 40% cashmere and 60% cotton. Onto my accessories, the fashion shoe is made of various components: Lining: 10% Polyeuthane, 90% Cotton. Cut: 100% Cows leather. Sole: 100% Polyeuthane thermoplastic. They come in one colour way, white with pink and yellow, and come in sizes 4-11. My patterned glasses consist of 30% Acrylic, 60% Polycarbonate and 10% Acetate. They come in a dark grey pattern and are one sized. My plain grey belt is made of 100% leather and comes in one size. My grey platform sandals are made of various components: Material: 100% Cows leather. Lining: 100% Polyeuthane. Sole: 100% Thermoplastic Rubber. My final accessory, the monk strap shoes, comes in one colour way and consists of 70% Cows leather and 30% Flax/Linen. They come in sizes 4-11 also.

Page 50: Final Major Project Presentation

WRITTEN RANGE PLAN

The cost price of my range varies depending on the garment / accessory. The lowest cost for my garments is the pink & yellow shirt at £15, and my highest are my crop bomber jackets and my beige jumper both at £23.33. For my accessories, the lowest costing item is my grey simple belt at £8.33 and my most expensive is my pink fashion trainer at £21.66. The prices are entirely dependent on the type of garment and the RRP of it. To find the cost price, you divide your RRP by 1.2, then again by 2.5. For the RRP, I determined them through my comparison shop. I gathered 3 stores similar to my own and in it I got garments for both male and female that had similar components to the other stores. I chose both male and female garments as there was only one store that had unisex garments which was Lazy Oaf.

The sizing for all my garments and accessories differ from the standard XXS – XXL and the 2, 4, 6 8+. I have primarily put my pants and shoes as the 1, 2, 3, 4+ as it is easier to measure in pants and is generalised around the world. The tops are put in the XXS – XXL sizes as that is the general sizing for those too. I have set my tops for those sizes as the garments are for all genders and peoples sizings may differ. The shoes are the 1, 2, 3, 4+ sizings as that is what the national shoe size is for the UK.

As for the sourcing, I have found out that COS source from both Europe (Turkey) and Asia (China.) My garments will all be sourced from Turkey due to the fact that they primarily cater specifically to the garments that I am selling. The lead times for Turkey will also be considerably cheaper as well as the cost price overall being cheap. As for my accessories, I will be sourcing from China as they are primarily known for their plastics and many of my accessories have plastic qualities to them. The lead times for Chinese shipping will have to be extended greatly as the shipping will take a higher amount of time to get into the warehouse. The overall quantity of my range that I will be sourcing from Turkey is 39545 and the overall quantity I will be sourcing from China is 1600. The overall quantity of garments that I will be distributing is 41145.

My range is being sold and displayed online, the garments will be sorted into co-ordinating outfits in the conjunction: tops, bottoms, accessories and shoes. The garments can be bought as a whole outfit or separately if intended. The overall budget that I have will be £810,476.09, my OTB budget will be £243,142.827. The OTB budget will be if I need to purchase any quantities of garments that sold out. The overall margin for my range will be 67%, peaking at 69% for my pink culottes.

QUESTIONNAIRE - FEMALE

Page 53: Final Major Project Presentation

QUESTIONAIRE EVALUATION

For my range, I did a questionnaire asking people whether they shop online, if so then how often they do it, and just general questions about my range overall. The feedback I got was great except for the overalls which people exclaimed could be cheaper. Overall, everyone said that my range was suitable for both male and female, so my initial goal was achieved to create a unisex range that people would purchase. People liked my culottes but a male said that they would have liked to see them in another colour, this could be something to alter if I were to change or have additional items in my range.

Page 54: Final Major Project Presentation

PEER FEEDBACK

One of my college peers Rea looked over my work to critique both good and bad aspects of my FMP. Rea started off by firstly saying that my presentation had a professional feel to it whilst staying minimal. I’m glad that Rea said this as minimalism is one of the key aspects of my range and that is reflecting into my presentation. Rea then continued to say that she liked the fact that I have taken all genders into consideration when creating my range as she feels like that is something you rarely see on the market –again, niche that has been spotted by peers – and said that it reflects well in my range to a certain point. Rea then continued to say that my evaluations on my comparison shops and directional shops were very detailed and to a good standard. After that, Rea then critiqued my moodboards and she stated that I have excellent Photoshop skills and I have displayed my trend thoroughly in them. Rea then went on to speak about my range, firstly starting on a negative exclaiming that it feels more driven towards a more masculine feel, she then stated that this was something that could be changed by adding brighter colours into my range as she personally would only purchase a few garments from my range. After speaking about my range, Rea then went on to say that my questionnaire looked too overwhelming with all the questions. I agreed with this as my questionnaires did go into detail about how often the consumer purchases garments online. Finally, Rea said that she really liked the look of my article, asking if I had done it myself because she thought that it was really professional. She then explained that I could have possibly added a few more promotional activities to my list. Rea finally ended saying that she thought my PowerPoint, range and everything in-between were overall really good.

42

Page 55: Final Major Project Presentation

PROMO ACTIVITY - ARTICLE

This is a promotional activity that I have used in my FMP. It is discussing my range and advertising it to the GP, explaining what is in my range and when it is available. This article that I have done goes in depth about my range and how it will evolve fashion as a whole.

43

Page 56: Final Major Project Presentation

EVALUATIONAfter completing my FMP, overall I am very happy with the final outcome. All of the targets and expectations that I set myself, I feel like I have exceeded. I feel like I have completed all of my work to the best of my ability within the duration of the 5 weeks that we got given to complete this assignment. When doing the presentation of both my PowerPoint and my Photoshop moodboards, I tried to maintain a professional industry standard quality FMP. This was confirmed that I had done just that in my peer feedback when Rea had stated that my work looked professional and minimal. The minimal touch was an added bonus as my trend was minimalistic. I believe that I have added everything required into my FMP and even a little more, such as added extras like my PowerPoint slide on the unisex styling by Lazy Oaf. Although this is still classed as research, it was the only actual unisex garments that I could find that fitted into – if not had some influence – my range.

I have maintained my skills from the last assignments but I have had to refresh my mind with many aspects such as the calculations for shipping and cost prices on the WSSI spreadsheets. I feel like my Photoshop skills have gotten as equally more advanced than last assignment due to my tutor teaching me how to use the blacken outline tool last assignment. I feel like I have maintained a good time management skill as I have used action plans and reflective diaries to monitor what I am doing both in college time and out of college time. I feel like a strength would be my PowerPoint skills, those aided me when getting a professional feel for my final presentation to show my FMP.

Going into more depth, for my time management skills, I have had to do reflective diaries x5. This is explaining what I did on a weekly basis from Monday – Wednesday and any days that I did work in-between. In my reflective diaries I went into depth about if I occurred any health and safety issues and what equipment I used for that week. I generally used the same equipment weekly but many things happened that affected my FMP such as not being able to find a name for my range and even the college electricity blacking out, preventing me from doing work in college and only being able to do little at home.

Last year, I did a course in this college that had a mini-project version of buying and merchandising in it but coming onto this course, I have developed further skills within buying and merchandising. I feel like I have got a greater understanding of creating ranges and distributing it between both online and in-store concessions. I feel like I have gathered further information in the shipping prices and how you box / contain them ready for the initial launch of the store.

44

Page 57: Final Major Project Presentation

EVALUATION

45

In my FMP, I feel like my moodboards and range has been more successful than other aspects as I feel like they represent both my trends and chosen brand well. As for improvisation of my FMP, I feel like I could have spent more time gathering suitable colours for my range and even adding more than one colour way into my range. Even though I feel like my range was suitable, I feel like I should have added more colours which the consumer wanted as stated in my questionnaire feedback. I know that my questionnaire feedback was done too late to actually make adjustments into my range but now I understand that consumers generally want more colours that just one for specific garments. I feel like my FMP has exceeded my personal expectations as I was only expecting to do the bare minimal of actions to pass, but in conjunction I ended up doing twice as much work due to the fact that I had both male and female consumers to bare in mind. Throughout my FMP I don’t feel like I faced many difficulties, as stated before I only feel like the only difficulty I had was to name my range due to the fact that I had to make it sound both elegant and minimal at the same time.

In my FMP, I enjoyed the creation of the moodboards and range, which is why I feel like they were more successful as I spent more time on them than anything else on my FMP. I liked that I have total freedom over my moodboards and range as that was where I could pick my own trends and CADs to implement designs into. For my FMP, I thought each task was as challenging as the next, but I mostly had trouble finding out-of-college experience such as actual work experience and getting industry collaborations to ask general questions about advertising, etc. I didn’t think any of my FMP was easy as it really challenged you to make your own project proposal and actually stick to it whilst maintaining it to a professional standard.

Overall, I feel like my FMP was done to an exceptional standard and I am happy with how everything went.
