Welcome to ES-2017

Enterprise Systems (ES), also referred to as Enterprise Information Systems, has become increasingly popular over the last 20 years because it integrates and extends business processes across the boundaries of business functions and corporate walls, as well as country border lines. The International Conference on Enterprise Systems (ES) has been held every year since 2013. This

year, the fifth in the series is held at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, 22-24 September, 2017.

This conference series is focusing on both the technical and application aspects of enterprise systems, the complex and cross-disciplinary problems of enterprise integration, and the new technological frontiers such as Industrial Integration, Industrial Information Integration, and Industry 4.0. The objectives of the conference are to provide high quality research and professional interactions for the advancement of science and technology. The main features of the conference include Keynotes, Plenary Speeches, Invited Talks, Regular Sessions, Tutorials and the Industry Forum. The theme of ES 2017 is “Made in China 2025 and Industry 4.0” which is a popular topic recommended by researchers, policy makers, funding authorities, investors, and industrial giants. The selection process this year was competitive: we received 147 submissions, which reflects the recognition of and interest in this conference. Each submitted paper was reviewed by at least three members of the program committee. Following this independent review, there were some discussions among reviewers and chairs. A total of 49 papers were selected for IEEE CPS publication where 34 papers as oral presentation and 15 papers as poster presentation. We believe that those accepted papers provide interesting viewpoints and good starting points for discussion during the conference. We would like to thank everyone who participated in the development of the ES 2017 program. In particular, we would give special thanks to the Advisory Committee and the Program Committee, for their diligence, and concern for the quality of the program, and also with their detailed feedback to the authors. The general organization of the conference also relies on the efforts of ES 2017 organizing committee. Especially we thank Mr. Zijiang Liu for the IT and registration process, and Dr. Na Pang for the general administrative issues, and thank Miss Yingye Lu who put a great deal of efforts into the financial process. Finally and most importantly, we thank all the authors who have the primary reason why ES 2017 is so exciting, and why it will be the premier forum for presentation and discussion of innovative ideas, research results, applications and experience from around the world as well as highlight activities in the related areas.

for deep structure Prof. C. L. Philip Chen ([email protected])

FIEEE, FAAAS, FCAA, FHKIE

Dean and Chair Professor, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Macau, Macau, China

In recent years, deep learning caves out a research wave in machine learning. With outstanding

performance, more and more applications of deep learning in pattern recognition, image

recognition, speech recognition, and video processing have been developed.

The talk is to introduce “Broad Learning” – a very fast and accurate learning without deep structure.

Without stacking the layer-structure, the designed neural networks expand the neural nodes

laterally and update the weights of the neural networks incrementally when additional nodes are

needed and when the input data entering to the neural networks continuously. The designed

network structure and learning algorithm are perfectly suitable for modeling and learning big data

environment. Experiments indicate that the designed structure and algorithm out-perform existing

structures and learning algorithms.

Wireless Communication Networks for the Industrial Internet of

Things

Prof. Branka Vucetic Fellow of Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering

Fellow of IEEE, ARC Laureate Fellow

Centre of Excellence in Telecommunications at the University of Sydney, Australia

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is ushering in a fourth wave of the industrial revolution,

and will have the power to transform industrial automation and manufacturing. While traditional

wired communication technologies have played a crucial role in industrial monitoring and control

over the past few decades, they are inadequate to meet the highly dynamic and stringent demands

of emerging IIoT applications, primarily due to the rigidity of access to wired infrastructure.

Wireless technology, through its increased pervasiveness, has the potential to revolutionise the

industry by introducing a completely new class of applications. While present day wireless

technologies made some preliminary inroads in the metering and monitoring domains, they still

have severe limitations especially when real-time, reliable distributed control and protection

operations are concerned, due to their high latencies and insufficient reliability. For current high

performance networked control, fiber-optic wired networks are exclusively used as their latencies

are significantly lower than those in wireless networks. Wireless systems, however, provide

flexible access, are easy and cost-effective to deploy, extend and maintain.

In order to facilitate wireless connectivity in industrial monitoring and control, it is imperative to

develop new theories, mechanisms and technologies for wireless networks with consistently

ultralow latencies and ultrahigh reliability.

In this talk I will present the state-of-the art wireless technologies for industrial internet use cases

and outline the gap between their current and required performance. I will describe the main

standardisation activities to overcome this gap and recent results in wireless communications

research at Sydney University Centre of Excellence in Telecommunications. Prof. Branka Vucetic is an ARC Laureate Fellow and Professor in Telecommunications at the University of Sydney, where she directs the Centre of Excellence in Telecommunications. Prof. Vucetic has made seminal contributions to the fields of coding and wireless communications. Her design of adaptive coding schemes has remained a permanent feature of multiple wireless standards over more than a decade. Prof. Vucetic’s soft output detection and decoding algorithms have been widely used in mobile communications systems. With her team Prof. Vucetic established theoretical framework and design criteria for adaptive modulation and coding in MIMO systems.
