India during the 11thplan period.
o The scheme envisages economic empowerment ofwomen through trade related training, information and
counseling.
o This assistance has been provided for self-employmentventures by women.

HISTORY A pilot project was sanctioned in 1996-97 to Self
Employed Women's Association (SEWA) Ahmadabad.
Based on the successful results of the pilot project, the
Standing Finance Committee (SFC) approved a Planoutlay of Rs.14 crores.
The Office of DC (MSME) after studying the Scheme indetail and obtaining views from the lending Institutions
brought out some changes in assistance components ofthe Scheme to make it more practical, workable andresult oriented.

Recent Trends & Budget allocation of
TREAD
Number of women enterprise is 2.15 lakhs till date.
Share of women enterprise increases from 10% from 3rd
census to 13.7% in the latest census.
Budget allocation of the same in the 11th plan is 7 crores.
Grants provision is upto 30% of the total project.
Budget allocation for the 12thplan will be 12 crores.
