The FIM Europe President Dr Wol-fgang Srb was present, too, andintervened with a speech to thestudents, explaining, in particularthe vision and the mission of FIMEurope. Dr Srb talked about theimportance of fairness in sport, environmental aspects as well asanti-doping controls, too, arou-sing the questions of many stu-dents.

The various disciplines connectedto sport on motorcycles were il-lustrated, and finally the institu-tional aspects were dealt with:from the tasks of the General As-sembly to those of ManagementCouncil and Executive Board, andthe powers of the President, ofVice-Presidents and Treasurer, ofInternal Auditors and of the Se-cretary General.

The students were invited to askquestions and during the twohours of lesson some of themasked questions about disciplinesthey did not know well and aboutthe relationship between FIM Eu-rope and the other National Fe-derations.

The FIM Europe has an agreementwith the Università del Foro Ita-lico for a Traineeship and in factup to now about ten students car-ried out their training in FIM Eu-rope General Secretariat.

«It has been pleasing for meunder two aspects, to teach inthe University in which I startedas a student in 1979, and carryout my lesson about Governanceto the students of this University,de scribing the Organization of

In November 22–24 in Jerezde la Frontera (Spain) it willbe held the second FIM Eu-rope Workshop on Leader-ship, addressed to the leadersof the FMNs Executive Staff:the Secretaries General. Likethe first, successful, edition, which took place in Maggiora

(Italy), in November 2013, thesecond Workshop will be heldwithout costs for the FIM Eu-rope and the participants ofits FMNs.The Workshop will be held bySadhana Singh Avenali andGundula Puran Sukh Schatz.Mr Sadhana Singh is a Kunda-

lini Yoga Lead Trainer and co-founder of the Waldzell Lea-dership Institute, a companythat is designed to bring ex-cellence and full self-realiza-tion to leaders and individualsthrough the cleansing of sub-conscious mental and emotio-nal patterns. The theoretical

foundations and applied te-chniques of the Waldzell Lea-dership Institute derive fromboth the modern neuroscien-ces and the ancient wisdomof Kundalini Yoga. The Insti-tute is located in Switzerlandand has partners in Italy,Hungary, Croatia, Poland,Sweden and South America.Sadhana Singh has providedconsulting services to compa-nies operating worldwide, in-cluding Philip Morris, INAAssitalia, Lierac Paris, OmibisSlovenia, Telecom Italia, Uni-versity of Peru, Ecuador Uni-versity - Faculty ofEconomics, Libera Universitàdi Studi Sociali LUISS "GuidoCarli" of Rome and Universitàdegli Studi di Roma "Foro Ita-lico". Gundula Puran Sukh Schatzhas been studying scienceand spiritual teachings forover 20 years. After comple-ting her studies in biotechno-logy her career lead her tobusiness and politics. She isco-founder of the internatio-nally known Waldzell Mee-tings, attended bypersonalities such as His Ho-liness the Dalai Lama, andmany other celebrated perso-nalities concerned with spiri-tuality, science and business.Today Mrs Schatz runs herown yoga school and holdsseminars and lectures athome and abroad.

The first FIM Europe Wor-kshop on Leadership was fo-cused on the "Cycle of theIntellect" that reveals the dy-namics of the mind and theintellect. The Trainer Avenaliproposed an ancient yogic te-chnique, based on an age-oldknowledge for mind-map-ping, to learn to use themany facets of the mind andto understand how to get thebest performance from our-selves and from others.Kundalini Yoga as taught byYogi Bhajan has its roots in amore than 7000-year-old hi-story, and was in ancienttimes solely for kings andthose who had the responsi-bility of leading others tohappiness and excellence.Kundalini Yoga is known asthe fastest way toachieve a state ofyoga and heighte-ned awareness, acomplete physi-cal, mental andspiritual balance. The applied te-chnologies areconcentrated inKriyas. A Kriya is asequence of po-stures, combinedwith hand posi-tions, concentra-tion of the eyes, specific breathingtechniques andcertain frequen-

cies of sound, assembled intoa single permutation andcombination to stimulate thephysical, mental and energe-tic system. It is a completeaction with accurate execu-tion times, pauses and rela-xations to allow a certainpredictable and desired stateof consciousness. The impact on the body tostimulate the electromagne-tic field is accompanied by adecisive operation of the sub-conscious. The action of theKriya penetrates the subcon-scious to remove the blocksthat don't allow us to relateto something. On a mentallevel, it educates the neu-rons to find new associativepaths, unravelling old habi-tual patterns, opening up

new opportunities and sce-narios, thus preparing themind to see as possible so-mething it previously didn'tbelieve.

How is yoga connected toleadership?«The ability of every humanbeing to be in contact withoneself comes from a volun-tary act», says SadhanaSingh Avenali. «The processto unfold his own potentia-lity, uniqueness and powerneeds a self authority thatcan just happen if self lea-dership is ignied. That’s allKundalini yoga is madeabout, leading yourself toexpress the inner core ofyour true self so by this suc-cess will happen for yourown satisfaction and the be-nefits and welfare of others,so the human spirit can pro-sper. If you simply let thingshappen, you can live, youcan make experiences butthe knowledge of yourselfdoes not happen, then insome way you have to applysome sort of discipline onyourself to be not only a vic-tim of circumstances butdeal with the circumstancesmaintaining a kind of dignityand integrity to life».

«I've been organising foryears interdisciplinary mee-tings of science, spiritualityand business in which we in-vited people such as Dalai

Lama, Paulo Coelho, IsabelAllende, Frank Gehry, Chri-sto und Jeanne-Claude andbrought them together withleaders from business andpolitics», says GundulaPuran Sukh Schatz. «Thetopic of the meetings was'The meaning of life'. Wewanted to find out whatpeople, who are very suc-cessful in their lives, aredoing differently thanothers. Our theory was, thatthey are completely in-linewith their life-paths, deeplyconnected to their inner es-sence. The result of thefive-years lasting projectwas, that this is 100% true.It was really striking to seethat all these people had aninner passion for what they

were doing and were con-vinced that they were doingthe right thing. Christo, theartist who did the Gates inCentral Park in New York, had an incredibly hard lifefor 20/30 years because no-body wanted to finance hisartwork but he continued tobelieve in it. «All these successful per-sons were convinced thatwhat they were doing waswhat they had to do. Theywere ready to go for it eventhrough very hard times. The most important thingwas to see the light, the lifein these people. Sometimeswe see young boys or girlswho have already clear intheir mind what they wantto do: 'I want to be an artist',

Sadhana Singh Avenali

or 'I want to be a doctor', theysay. Often they lose themsel-ves in the struggle of daily lifeand forget about their dre-ams, but get instead corrup-ted by their subconsciousfears. For us this is a tragedy, because in a world whereeveryone is doing what theyreally want to do, therewould be peace and happi-ness instead of wars and de-pression. «The reason why we are notin connection with ourselvesand we cannot even feel our-selves any more is becausethere are veils which hide ourpersonality and the more weare trapped in our ego-mind,the thicker these veils be-come, so we cannot perceiveour true essence. Our techni-ques are peeling off theseveils, so the true identity canshine though».

In which Countries is Yogamore present in business?

«In America and North EuropeYoga joined companies a longtime ago», says Sadhana SinghAvenali. «Eriksson used Kun-dalini Yoga already 12 yearsago. South America and Ea-stern are very open».

How was your first expe-rience with FIM Europe?«For many people it was thefirst time they got to knownew methodologies and a dif-ferent 'language', so I wasvery happy because I sawpeople absolutely intere-sted», states Sadhana SinghAvenali. «We did a study onthe mind, on the personalityand how to engage the mindin leadership».

What do you think is the key-element to be a good leaderin FIM Europe?«It is mainly a capacity to putone's ideas in discussion andbe ready to accept new chal-lenges, because the times are

changing and it is no longerfunctioning as it worked be-fore», explains Sadhana SinghAvenali. «The ability to trulycommunicate with other Na-tions, to increase the level ofintelligence applied to solveproblems, more intuition andthe ability to strategize andplan with creativity».

«FIM Europe has a specialchance because from what Isee on the basis of this orga-nization there was and thereis a strong vision and if all sin-gle managers and secretarygenerals are able to recon-nect to this vision and to aligntheir personal vision with FIMEurope’s, this helps you toovercome the resistances»,comments Gundula PuranSukh Schatz. «Another impor-tant thing is that FIM Europeis a Continental organization,so you have a patchwork ofdifferent cultures. Many peo-ple suffer from the separationin our world. It is beautiful ifyou can do things to teardown the walls among cultu-res».

Can you give us some antici-pations of the FIM EuropeWorkshop on Leadership nextNovember?«In January we met a groupof people from FIM Europe

FIM EUROPE INSIDE

Gundula Puran Sukh Schatzduring the Waldzell Meeting

18

who wanted to experience alittle more, and we havebegun to diagnose well whatare the dynamics occurringwithin the various Federa-tions to see on which of thethree areas we must focusmore: awareness, that is tobe clear with yourself, facereality without preconcep-tions, intelligence, that ishow I can strategically adopta plan to reach a goal, andthe necessary energy to actand create», says SadhanaSingh Avenali. «This is a realrevolution in the professio-nal field. In fact, the feelingof time is reduced and thethings to do are more andmore. Continuing to work onhow you can administer thetime will never work, youhave to think about how tomanage your own energy:we call this energy 'prana',the vital resource of life. The questions is, if I havethe awareness to understandthe reality and the intelli-gence to make a plan, is

there also enough energy toact and implement? This issomething we often lack be-cause of stress. The nextmeeting, in November, willdeal especially with this, alsocontinuing to work on themind».

How long do people have topractice to see the first re-sults?«The tricky thing is that itcan happen in one meetingand it can last 20 years. Wedon't know. It really dependson the people themselves, how big their resistancesare», says Gundula PuranSukh Schatz. «People usuallythink they have to defend acertain personality and thuswear different masks. I be-lieve that in a group theremust be someone who is ex-tremely courageous and doesthe first step: ‘Ok, now let'sput off our masks and let's bewho we really are!' As soonas the first one decides to doit, then I'm sure that others

will do the same. From whatwe could see in companies, the more successful the lea-ders are, the more they aresuffering. This is because themore they think they have todefend their status and per-sonality, the more they intui-tively feel trapped like in aprison. They feel they can-not let go of their mask, so-metimes they have topretend this even at home».

So after the workshop whatwill people have to do tocontinue 'working' on it?«We offer a personalizedprogram with our techni-ques, the evidences of thebenefits will be an imme-diate experience, but it'llturn into a big transforma-tion only if people are readyto practice on a daily basis»,explains Gundula Puran SukhSchatz. «Even if it is just 11 minutesa day. We meet the peopleoften only three to fourtimes a year, but they haveto practice at home. In factit is a life long path, becauseit is necessary to change thebehaviour, the way to reactto experiences. Thus newneuronal connections mustbe built and that's why therepetition in a daily routineis so important. Also doing11 minutes a day, if done ona daily basis, on the long runcan change a lot».Fiammetta La Guidara

Very often we speak of Earthly Paradise with refe-rence to some wonderful places that our world of-fers us as a gift.

However, among the place which I have been luckyenough to visit, Costa Rica is certainly the placethat is closest to my personal idea of paradise. Forthose, like me, is more fascinated by the works ofnature than by those of man, Costa Rica is a must-see.

That is why together with the friends of the MotoClub Roma we all asked to MotoRideExperience(which has now gained good experience in the area)to organize a short journey by motorcycle, "tailor-made" for us and our companions of life who just forease of the travel, did not not even consider the op-portunity to stay home.

At home, or better in the garage, stayed our belo-ved motorcycles because you can rent by the BMW

dealer in San Jose (capital of Costa Rica) suitablemotorcycles for the route, which is a light enduroroad that allows you to ride smoothly on the manydirt roads, which in many cases are the only way toreach some of the most beautiful places of theCountry.

Besides the daily excursions are quite limited be-cause the surface of Costa Rica - only about 50,000square kilometers - allows in a few hours to reachthe goal set effortlessly. The beauty of Costa Rica isjust that: in a piece of land are enclosed and guar-ded carefully all six types of tropical forest in theworld, beautiful tropical beaches perfectly equip-ped for tourism, and others which are solitary andwild, high mountains and 3,500 meters high volca-noes.

Each type of accommodation, for all budgets, isavailable for visitors and travelers.

After a long plane flight and the first night spent inthe capital (which really does not offer anythingmemorable), we “got to know" our “horses”, fiveF700GS and a G650 Sertao, and we immediatelypointed towards the North through dense rainforestwhich did not deny its name. But the temperatureis pleasant and the rain only lasts an hour and givesway to a strong hot sun that gives life color brightand blinding. The impression of us all is to ride in a

botanical garden and this makes us feel intruders inthis lush greenery where live huge trees, wherebirds and animals unknown to us Europeans live, arethe undisputed masters. The Costa Rica, in fact, isthe country in the world with the highest percen-tage of territory destined to nature park.

The next two days are dedicated to the mountainsand parks of the center of the country which includethe area of the Arenal Volcano and the park near thetown of Monteverde - reachable only on dirt roads, just to prevent excessive access of tourists - whereis one of the few cloud forests of the Planet. Itseems to be entered in the movie Avatar: the treesare like true cathedrals that contain within themmany forms of plant and animal life, depending oneach other. Surely James Cameron was inspired bythese trees for the set of his film.

After Monteverde the gravel road goes down to thevalley and becomes asphalt perfectly maintainedand modeled on purpose to be fully enjoyed and de-voured by our bikes. Rolling hills on which the roadruns with ups and downs and curves perfectly con-nected to each other. Traffic nonexistent.

The road enters, then, the legendary Panamericana, the route that connects Patagonia with Alaska. It isvery busy but fascinating thanks to the presence ofvehicles and trucks prepared for long journeys.

Abandoned the Panamerican road on which we tra-veled for about 80 km in North direction, we headtowards the West to reach the Peninsula de Nicoia.

In this area they are located the most popular andfamous beaches (Plaia El Coco, Tamarindo Plaia,Plaia Carrillo, etc.) which are chosen by many fo-reigners as a permanent home to enjoy retirement, both by young water sports enthusiasts. The atmo-sphere is still relaxed and smart, and never chaotic, and quiet bays alternate to absolutely wild beaches. In front of us, on the sea, there is the passage of seabirds including the beautiful pelicans flying by tou-ching the crests of waves. Behind, on the mainland, the attention is drawn to the monkeys: like ti-ghtrope walkers they pass through the branches ofthe trees in search of fruit to eat, while tons of birdsshine for their bright colors. In the pools of freshwater within the beach it is not difficult to meetsome Caiman. What a show!

Leaving the Peninsula de Nicoia, we retrace oursteps and head South always on the Pacific Coast,to visit the region of Puntarenas. Here we get an ex-traordinary balance of beauty between the humidrainforest and the hot ocean on which it overlooks. It's impossible to say which, of the two, is more fa-scinating, but it sure is wonderful to be in this inde-cision. Outside the hotel room wander undisturbediguana one meter long (they are not aggressive, butit's better to keep the door closed); on the trees

Cappuccino monkeys scamper (the most courageousof them do not mind a dip in the pool) and the co-lorful Toucans are flying, just over forward the daz-zling white saddle beach dives in all shades of blueof the sea.

But it is time to leave the coast because inside wethe 3500 meters of the Irazu volcano are awaitingfor us. Here the view is, of course, completely dif-ferent. You cannot count the different shades ofgreen. Forests and woods alternate with crops(mandatory organic) of coffee and tropical fruits.

On the mountains the humid currents of the twooceans collide and it is easy to find mist and rain, but all in all our light waterproof coveralls fulfilltheir duty, the road surface is always well maintai-ned and there are no particular problems. However, the temperature drops from 36 degrees on the coastto the 8 of the top of the volcano and we must coverourselves better because the technical clothing thatwe brought is for Summer, but overall the choicewas appropriate.

We return to the plains to say farewell, or bettergoodbye, to our motorcycles: with their behavior al-ways adequate to our needs we hve learned to lovethem (but please do not tell those left at home, they would be jealous!)

So the motorcycle journey is over but "the adven-ture continues". A few hours of bus are enough toreach the Atlantic coast, much wilder, much less

built up. In fact, here we find the “Amazon” Atlan-tic Forest at the Northest of the Continent. It isaccessible only by small boats along some water-ways that enter the forest until you reach the areacalled Tortuguero. The long beach is chosen bysea turtles for breeding and spawning but it iscompletely inhospitable to nautical activities forthe presence of large sharks, and where the sea isalmost always rough and with strong current. Theturtle hatching takes place in June-July, but youcan imagine how attentively the area is guarded.

We are guests for two days of a nice resort arran-ged with every comfort and organized to be ableto visit the area with trained guides that illustrateflora and fauna in the area and prepare guests tobe woken up suddenly during the night by the ho-wler monkeys. Believe me that the name is quite

appropriate and the sound would be a propersoundtrack for a horror movie.

Unfortunately the return flight will not wait for us,therefore, with real regret we say goodbye toCosta Rica: the cold Winter is awaiting for us athome but it will be heated by the warm memoryof this wonderful adventure ... looking forward toorganizing the next one.

A warm thank you to the people close to me thatwith their presence and participation have madethe trip even more memorable: my wife Cecilia,Enzo and Sophie, Fulvio and Maria Grazia, Fabioand Federica, Marco and Susanna and Camillo andFrancesca, at their first motorcycle journey. Spe-cial thanks also to Rino of Motoride Experience, for the warm care provided.
