Velo philosophy and production lines
In every Velo project, top priority is given toachieve the right balance between the mostadvanced technology and the greatest simplicity of operation. Velo philosophy aims to improve the productsthrough a constant programme of researchand development. The results, with more than 100 registeredpatents, 35 of which are currently in use, areclear evidence of the activity performed by 30engineers and designers. The range of machines produced in the Veloplant in Altivole, north Italy, is very comprehen-sive: there is a full range of equipment neededfor the pressing of grapes and fruits, for fer-mentation, vinification, filtration, refrigerationand concentration . There is also a special sector in Velo for thedesign and construction of brewing plant, frommini breweries for pubs and restaurants tocomplete brew houses with a capacity of up to100 hl per brew for industrial plants.Velo can also offer complete turn-key plantsand produce all types of tanks which are nowmanufactured in a brand new factory. This is equipped with modern production methods and the latest technologies, featuringCAD/CAM design, laser cutting and completelyautomatic robots for welding and assembling."It is our intention to offer the entire range ofmachinery necessary for the processing of wine, beverages and juices, in order to give our customers, whether it’s a family run business ora large industrial group, just a single referencepoint for their demands and help them solveany kind of problem that they mightencounter" quote from Antonio Velo, owner.
Origin and development of the company
Since the middle of the nineteenth-century theVelo family has designed and manufacturedmachinery for farming and winemaking. In fact, the Velo symbol is represented by an oldwine-press made by Simeone Velo back in1855 and this is on display in Velo’s modernhead office. Since 1967 Antonio Velo, the owner, has beenwisely developing the original know-how andthe experience matured by four generations ofmanufacturers and has made his Company aleader in its field. The technical ability and skills of the 250strong staff have enabled the Company toimprove its performance consistently over theyears in such a way that the annual revenuetarget of 40 million euro has now beenreached. The two production plants in Altivole cover anarea of 100,000 sq. m. of which 42,000 sq. m.is under cover.Over the years Velo has specialized in the construction of winery plant, fulfilling the needsof winemakers with functional machinery thatperform the whole production process turninggrapes into juice, still wine, sparkling wine, plusother intermediate alternatives such as muteconcentrated and/or rectified musts, as well asspecific solutions for any single producer.Besides the winemaking sector, Velo SpA has gradually increased its presence in the industrial, pharmaceutical, chemical and food-stuff areas by designing and manufacturingcomplex plants for the production of spirits, beers, fruit juices, chemical preparations, phar-maceutical liquids, oils and edible greases andalso for the treatment of liquid waste products.
Velo in the world
Velo exports 60% of its production to 33 different countries. During the past 10 years a commercial networkhas been established throughout the variousforeign markets to offer our customers a directpresence in their territory, to meet theirdemands and to have a closer relation withthem. As a result, we can now consider an Australianor a Brazilian customer as close to Velo as anItalian customer can be.The ability to foresee and anticipate marketchanges has allowed the Company to growfrom a craft size to an industrial size and to setup factories in many parts of the world. In 1998 Velo Argentina SA was established inMendoza, on a 10,000 sq.m site of which3,000 are under cover, for the production oftanks through CAD/CAM aided design, withautomatic decoiler, automatic TIG/plasmawelding machines and laboratory for chemicaltreatments and pickling. In Alcazar de San Juan, in Spain, VeloMaquinaria and Velo Enoquimica are operatingon a total area of 2,000 sq.m. Based on thesame production technology, Vinquip VeloSouth Africa was established on July 2000, ona 16,000 sq.m. site under cover, while a newproduction plant is about to be established inAustralia.

VINIFICAZIONE UVE BIANCHEWHITE WINE PRODUCTION
Lavorazione uve Grapes processing
Research of the raw material, right from the first steps
of the process is an integral part of VELO’s philosophy.
The hoppers for the discharge of the grapes and the
destemmer crushers have been designed according to this
"innovation culture".
The crushed product is sent by displacement pumps to the
pneumatic presses, where it is delicately dejuiced in either
open or closed type drums, both featuring efficient drainage
systems.
serbatoi termocondizionati.
Must processing
The must obtained can be statically clarified through
refrigeration units or continuously clarified thanks to the
flotation technology.
The solid parts are separated by means of a rotary drum
vacuum filter.
In a market always requiring more structured wines, VELO
offers the electrical vacuum concentrators and the reverse
osmosis plants to every quality-orientated wine producer.
These technologies are ideal to separate water from the
product and increase the sugar content and give more
"structure" to the wine.
Wine fermentation then takes place inside
thermo-conditioning tanks.
OSMOSI INVERSAREVERSE OSMOSIS
Lavorazione vino Wine processing
After regular racking, wine can be further cleared by means
of diatomaceous earth filters before it is sent to the
tartaric stabilization process.
VELO offers two options of stabilization plant with both
the discontinuous process by scraped surface chillers
and the continuous process with automatic plant.
The stainless steel pressure tanks for the production of
sparkling wines complete the range of tanks.
Cross-flow filtration, the latest technology introduced,
is a unique process to obtain stable wines and enhance
their organoleptic characteristics before being bottled.
dell’imbottigliamento.
