The Gold Coast is an enviable location for any

production company. The close proximity of a diverse

range of locations, world class Village Roadshow

Studios, along with the high calibre of experienced

crew has drawn production companies from across

the globe to produce feature films, commercials, video

clips and television series here.

Easily accessible

Situated just 45 minutes from Queensland’s capital

Brisbane, and one hour flight north of Sydney, the

Gold Coast provides a myriad of accessible big

screen locations.

Diverse locations

The diverse range of accessible locations allows for

almost any landscape to be replicated within the

region. From emotive city or country scenes, beautiful

beaches and sub-tropical rainforests, a unique blend

of architecture, scenic roads and city locations, the

city offers production companies diversity not available

in most parts of the world - all within 45 minutes of

the studios. Our locations have been used to double

as iconic locations including Miami, Los Angeles and

Hawaii, France, England and the Columbian jungle.

Celebrating 30 years of film

These locations combined with the support of

the studios and experienced crew has attracted a

combined production budget of $1.8 billion from

large-scale US productions including Aquaman, Thor,

Pirates of the Caribbean 5, San Andreas, Unbroken,

Railway Man, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage

of the Dawn Treader, Fool’s Gold, Nim’s Island and

The House of Wax, and television series Terra Nova,

H20 (season 1, 2 and 3) and Mako (season 1 and

2). Australian productions filmed on the Gold Coast

include The Railway Man, Bait 3D and Sanctum 3D.

The Gold Coast remains relatively untapped with

a large majority of accessible locations, both publicly

and privately owned, still undiscovered by the

filming industry.

INCENTIVEPROGRAMFilM inCentiVe PrograM

The City of Gold Coast (City) recognises the strengths

of the region as a world-class filming destination and

is committed to developing and promoting the city’s

film and television industry.

The City works in partnership with key industry

stakeholders - Screen Queensland and Village

Roadshow Studios - to provide the optimum

conditions for producers, directors, casting and crew.

Our program for film and television production

incorporates a suite of services including a financial

assistance package that will be assessed on:

• approximate value of the production (minimum

AUD $1.5 million spend on the Gold Coast)

• duration of the production and approximate

percentage conducted on the Gold Coast

• approximate number of jobs and economic impact

created on the Gold Coast during these periods.

World ClaSS StudioS

Village Roadshow Studios offer world class film

production facilities comprising nine sound stages,

three water tanks, ten production offices, editing

suites, wardrobe, makeup, construction, paint and

carpentry shops.

One of the largest studio lots in the Southern

Hemisphere, stages vary in size with an overall floor

area of 14,564m2 (156,731 sq ft). All sound stages

are equipped with current industry standard facilities

including air conditioning, extraction fans, steel grids

and catwalks.

The largest soundstage in Australia, Stage 9, was

completed in 2016 at the Studios. The new stage is

3716 m2 (40,000 sq ft).

Village Roadshow Studios is the only facility in

Australia that has three water tank facilities; one of

them the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere. The

tank can be used for both surface and underwater

sequence. The tank is 40m x 30m (131.24 x 98.43

ft) providing a surface area of 1200 m2 (12,915 sq

ft) with a depth of 7m (23 ft) and a 5m deep (16.4 ft)

outer shelf with two viewing ports. Holding six million

litres of water, the tank has a state-of-the-art filtration

system and a heating system that allows the tank to

be heated to 32º Celsius (89.6º Fahrenheit).

The Studios provide a comprehensive support

network of experienced film service companies

conveniently located on the lot. These companies are

available to provide valuable expertise, experience and

equipment for your production including production

services, casting, camera and lighting, rigging,

special effects, travel, freight, visual effects and post

production facilities.

The Studios recently attracted Pirates of the

Caribbean – Dead Men Tell No Tales, Thor Ragnarok

and Aquaman making Gold Coast and the

Studios the number one place to film for international

and domestic productions.

eXPerienCed CreW

The Gold Coast is home to a large film industry

community. Our Crew are multi skilled, versatile,

efficient and recognised both nationally and

internationally and famous for their ‘can-do’ attitude.

Their expertise has seen many film crew critically

acclaimed receiving both nominations and awards for

their craft. This is something we are very proud of.

We have an enormous depth of crew that include

production designers, cinematographers, costume

designers, special effects supervisors, art directors,

stunt coordinators, unit production managers,

key gaffers, key grips, construction managers,

transport captains, makeup and hair supervisors

and many more.

Queensland, specifically the Gold Coast, covers

a wide variety of formats ranging from television

series, feature films, movies of the week, pilots,

documentaries and more. We also cater to a diverse

range of budgets from big budget feature films to

more conservative budgets for television series.

The result of this versatility in both formats and

budgets speak for themselves. We have crew that

can creatively capture visually appealing scenes using

affordable and efficient techniques.
