  The lm began the day co-director Andrew Johnson check

into a Brazilian prison for two weeks to see prison from an inmperspective. During this process, Johnson was brought face-to-fawith two powerful forces: narco-trafcking gangs, and Penteco

Christianity. The lm uses social science methods and rst-ha

experience to investigate if this religion is an escape from oppressive conditions of prison, an elaborate show for the guardiand justice system, or if their faith represents something more.

  Juan Pablo, 16, travels to the family hacienda in the Andes,where his uncle, who is involved in a corruption scandal (the 1999Banking Crisis in Ecuador), has taken refuge with his wife andteenage children. There, Juan Pablo meets Juano, an enigmatic,self-assured black-metal fan from the nearby pueblo, who openshis eyes to a new, liberating universe. As his country and family isheading for the abyss, the two boys’ budding friendship develops into

a fragile romance and Juan Pablo is forced to dene himself against

his chaotic surroundings.

that is an act of combat, with a controversially renovating air.

  Ever since the late sixties, Narcisa Hirsch elaborated a bodyof work in Argentina with a wide aesthetic, conceptual, and cinematicrange, which very few experimental lmmakers were able to match.

What Muttis, who worked with Hirsch for twelve years, manages toaccomplish is an expository and erudite portrait that also feels closeand intimate.

  At a popular deli in New York’s Upper East Side, customers

get bagels and coffee served with a smile 24 hours a day. Butbehind the scenes, undocumented immigrant workers face sublegalwages, dangerous machinery, and abusive managers. Riskingdeportation and the loss of livelihood, the workers team up and forman independent union. The lm follows the struggle to win a fair

contract that would set a historic precedent for low-wage workersacross the country.

(2002), the last novel published during Bolaño’s lifetime. Bolaño

himself gave the rights to lmmaker Alicia Scherson, making this

lm the only lm adaptation that escaped the rigid control exerted by

Bolaño’s heirs and Andrew Wylie’s Agency since the author’s demise

  Campusano’s last production of cine comunitario once again

gets into the dirt an dust of a world where justice is never on the sideof authorities and even the toughest criminals hint some nobility, andeven tenderness. A raw story of deliberate harshness, where thesearch for authenticity is the only rule.

  Two lmmakers portray life in the village and in the mission

of Sangradouro, Mato Grosso: Adalbert Heide, an eccentric Germanmissionary, that soon after the contact with the Indians, in 1957, startsto lm with his Super-8 camera; and Divino Tserewahu, a young

Xavante lmmaker, that produces lms for television and cinema

festivals since the 90’s. Shifting between complicity, competition,

irony and affect, they give life to their historical records, revealing thepeculiar backstage of indigenous catechization in Brazil.
