Note of intent.

First of all, this Paris Commune thing is such a precious revolution. It is a rare moment in French History when people get to seize power… and how honest, how careful they have proven to be. Communards wanted to set an example, engraved a milestone in History… And I do think we have to look into this experience with a critical but tender we have to look into this experience with a critical but tender eye, gather the lessons, the errors, the success of it…

But I don’t think a movie is a place where you second-guess things. I think it’s a place where you observe, gather materials, raise questions and let the viewer free to make up her/his mind.

It is not my thing to make up stories. As you say when you want to put cosmetics on something… Hence, you can tell the challenge I am facing when I want to deal with a moment challenge I am facing when I want to deal with a moment in our History… How to talk about this moment without recreating something fake? We are going to try to simplify things, to evoke rather than recreate, to distance rather than showing…

I might also say a few words about our trying to make a cinema, deal with subjects, experiment methods impossible to make in a classical economy. Therefore we do have to think to make in a classical economy. Therefore we do have to think about ways to finance them and how to share them… The connexions, the exchange we could build up with those who are interesting in making and watching a different cinema…

But I feel it’s time to wrap up… We want to follow the everyday life of four characters facing the very concrete issues of those days and search for poetry, nuance, sensations in those tragic events… And I can’t tell how impatient I am, how curious and events… And I can’t tell how impatient I am, how curious and eager I am to go through this adventure. I know how beautiful it will be.
