    TECHNICAL NOTES:

The 2005 Household Survey on Domestic Visitors (HSDV) is a nationwide surveyof households conducted by the National Statistics Office in collaboration with theDepartment of Tourism. This survey gathers data on domestic tourism that are vital tothe effective and efficient development and implementation of tourism plans andprograms.

The 2005 HSDV used one-fourth (about 12,500 households) of the 2003 MasterSample (MS) as rider to the Labor Force Survey. The 2003 MS is multi-stagesampling design consisting of 2,835 primary sampling units and approximately 51,000

households deemed sufficient to provide reliable estimates at the national level. Two types of questionnaires were used for the survey. The HSDV Form 1 or

Household Questionnaire was used to ask for demographic characteristics ofhousehold members, information of visitors received during the past six months andownership of second home. The HSDV Form 2 or Individual Questionnaire, on theother hand, asked for information such as trips made by the members during the pastsix months, details of domestic trips including the most recent package tour andindependent trip, places and attractions visited and intention to travel in the next 12months, among others.
