About Coleshill Cricket ClubColeshill Cricket Club is a Community Amateur Sports Club, which promotes athletic and social pursuits in North Warwickshire. Founded in 1854 the club holds Clubmark status and plays in the Warwickshire Cricket League.

The club runs three sides on Saturdays in the Warwickshire Cricket League. In 2014, 1st XI will play in Division 1, 2nd XI in the Premier and 3rd XI in Single Team Div 2 East. The club also play in the Lichfield & District Sunday League Division 3.

Over the next three years, the club will focus on increasing adult participation, club development and improving the clubs infrastructure. Underpinning these areas is the need to ensure the club is run on a sound financial basis, where we maximise any revenue or capital opportunities.

Overall Objectives

To increase the number of adult members playing regularly in cricket games

To increase the number of young people playing regularly in cricket games

Taking StockThis season has seen the emergence of many youth team players into adult cricket, which will put the club in a good position for many years to come. The 2nd XI finished a very positive 9th in the Premier Division with the 3rd XI finishing 4th in Division 2 East, including winning their final seven completed games. The club also finished Champions of Lichfield & District Sunday Cricket League Division 4.

Unfortunately, the 1st XI slipped into Division 1 of Warwickshire League. Club Captain Kevin Crotty, commenting on the final match of the season said: "The umpires decided that the pitch was too wet and would not dry out enough for them to be happy enough to play. We held on until the latest possible time but to be honest I couldn't really argue with them either as it wasn't fit for play.”

"I still can't believe we were relegated after the positive start we made to the season. We lost a couple of key players early on but I felt we had plenty of strength in depth to cope.”

"The end of season table doesn't lie though despite the enormous disappointment of not being able to play the last game season.”

One of the highlights of the 2013 was the success of Sunday league cricket. Captain Martin Clifford commented “Sundays this year were a great success; it was a real achievement to finish Champions in our first season. It also allowed the Club to introduce younger players into adult cricket and was great fun for all those who involved.”

Sunday season highlights included:

1: Sean McKee falling over the small fence at Whittington

2: Playing in the rain at Kings Bromley

3: Kevin Drinkwater and his Sexy pants Song

4: Adam Harrison taking a catch

5. The case of the disappearing Racing Post

Increasing Adult Participation

Page 6: files.pitchero.comfiles.pitchero.com/clubs/22533/coleshillcc-annualreview2013_11… · Web viewfiles.pitchero.com

Research by the ECB shows that without direct intervention, adult participation in club cricket is in decline.

There are specific concerns regarding the 16-22 and 25-35 year-old age groups.

Club cricket is facing an aging stock of facilities, people and playing formats.

Therefore, the Club will over the next three years:

Offer a new format for paying annual subs and develop a ‘pay as play model’ Offer different formats of the game including Sunday 40 Over cricket Offer the opportunities for members, especially younger members, to take paid coaching

courses which include CRB checks and First Aid Training

MembershipAnnual subscriptions are vital to help towards its development. Joining the club is great value and is easy to pay.

Junior Review The club currently has 35 registered youth players between the ages of 6 and 15. To ensure the longevity of the club and to promote the progression from junior cricket to adult cricket, we must build on this current platform. This is a key part of the Club’s Development Plan.

Lee Bird, Junior Head Coach said “2013 has been a great year for our junior section; we’ve had some positive results and saw great improvements from all players who took part. I hope we can build on this in the 2014 season and I look forward to working with our junior section once again”

Moving forward to 2014, the club is already geared up and has organised hardball practice at Smiths Wood Sports College in the winter, on the following dates:

January 2014 February 2014 March 2014Sunday 19th (2-3PM) Sunday 2nd (2-3PM) Sunday 2nd (2-3PM)Sunday 26th (2-3PM) Sunday 9th (2-3PM) Sunday 9th (2-3PM)

Sunday 16th (2-3PM) Sunday 16th (2-3PM)Sunday 23rd (2-3PM) Sunday 23rd (2-3PM)

Sunday 30th (2-3PM)

Softball training arrangements for those who are under 9 are currently in the process of being confirmed.

We hope you can all join us for the 2014 season. Please feel free to spread the word about our junior section as widely as possible.

In 2013, Junior Membership was just £25 for the year and the club are always looking for potential sponsors to support junior teams.

Improving the Memorial Park CentreThe Club are still progressing plans to improve the Memorial Park Centre.

In December in 2012, the club conducted a number of public consultation events. The club attended the Coleshill Christmas Fare highlighting our proposed improvement plans and asked interested parties to fill in a written questionnaire related to the plans.

The consultation process was a great success and helped the club build new alliances with new community groups and with Town and Borough councillors.

We advertised our proposals in the Coleshill Town Hall and on the clubs website, Twitter and Facebook pages.

The club has progressed plans during 2013 and an application was submitted in early October 2013 to the SITA Trust Enhanced Communities Core Fund. The club was supported by a number of local community groups, Love Coleshill, Coleshill Council Town Council and Warwickshire Cricket Board.

Chairman David Whitehead said “These renovations will help support our adult and youth sections in the future, which we want to expand annually and provide modern community facilities. The overall sporting experience of our members will be vastly improved and assist in player retention and recruitment in the long term.

“I would like to thank the support of a number of club members such as David Pudge and Adam Harrison who have helped get us to this point but also external support received from Howard Clay (Project Management Support) and Peter Bromley (Architectural Design Services).

If successful, the club, with support of Chestnut Tree Nursery and local groups will update the Centre to include a refurbished roof and interior renovations to changing rooms, showers and toilets.

160th Year Celebrations – 2014

2014 will see Coleshill Cricket Club celebrate its 160th Birthday and we are in the early stages of planning celebration events.

We are exploring the possible revival of the Coleshill Knockout. The competition was run at the Club and was very popular and successful through the 1980-1990’s.

Local cricket clubs (Between 4-6) will be invited to play evening 16 eight-ball over knockout matches in a round-robin competition to find ‘the best’ local team in the area and also to help raise further revenue for the Club in the form of entry fees, raffles and bar revenue

Other events may include a possible match against the Midland Cricket Club Conference. This match would be followed by an end of Season match between a Presidents X1 v Chairman X1 and subsequent 160th Club Dinner.

The Club are looking for potential ideas to celebrate this anniversary and also possible sponsorship opportunities with local businesses.

Social EventsWe started the 2013 season with our Curry and Quiz which was well supported and attended, with delicious food provided by Jay and Dee Patel. Throughout the season we had a number of Summer Barbecues and a special Bank Holiday Weekend Barbecue. These were all cooked by our head chef Daniel Walker and were all well supported by members.

The annual junior Dads v Lads was another successful evening and we look forward to end of season presentation night on the Friday 11th October.

The club is planning many future events for 2014 which include:

New Years Eve Party

Pre Season Curry and Quiz night

Cider and Sausage Festival

Summer Barbecues

Annual Junior Dads v Lads

160th Cricket Club Dinner

Club LotteryOne of the most important means of fund raising comes in the shape of our Club Lottery which it is intended will be relaunched and extended in 2014.

Members are asked to pay £1 per number per week and choose their number from 1 to 49. The bonus ball drawn on The National Lottery on Saturday evenings will decide who the weekly winner is and they will receive £25.

The remaining £24 goes towards raising Club funds.

Members can buy as many numbers as they wish and the competition is aimed to start from the first week in January 2014 and run through to the Club Presentation Evening in October.

The aim is to raise between £900 and £1000 from this if well supported by members.
