the highest quality phones need the highest quality materials. like our polycarbonate granulate. it’s lightweight and strong, and has the right acoustic qualities to make great phone casings. From our filling plant, the granulate is pumped through eight kilometres of pipeline to our furnace, where it is melted at 240°.

The solid steel plates of the plastic injection moulding machines compress the viscous plastic with a force of up to 400 tonnes. The result: five millimetre-thick polycarbonate shells, weighing just a few grams, key components that make a Gigaset phone an object of desire. Pick one up – and feel quality in the palm of your hand.

After manufacture, trays containing 80 phone shells each arrive every minute from the interim storage at the centre of the production hall. up to 8,000 trays can be stacked here, meaning that at any time, up to 640,000 phone shells could be waiting for their sensitive electronic parts to be completed.

The intricate circuit boards that power all our phones are soldered in double-quick time at the printed circuit board assembly line. our machines can surface mount over 75,000 components per hour. in one year, the section mounts 20 million individual soldering points onto 86,000 printed circuit boards.

At the connection assembly, the disparate elements from each production process are united. A robot precisely mounts the ringer, keypad, charging contacts, earphone and speaker. This all happens within 4.5 seconds and up to two million times per year.

2 500Hearing is believing. We take pride in the sound quality our phones deliver. We’ve created High Sound Performance (HSP) protocols to provide higher sound quality than normal analogue landline phones. Internet calls on compatible phones have High Definition Sound Performance (HDSP), for twice the sound quality compared to normal VOIP calls.

To protect our phones from electronic interference from other devices that would degrade sound quality, we test in the electromagnetic testing chamber. It’s isolated from the rest of the facility and shielded with dampening material. Our phones easily withstand testing cycles that transmit power levels of over 2,700 MHz and energy spikes of up to 2,500 volts. This testing ensures that our phones have exceptional sound quality, even in areas with large amounts of electronic interference.

We drop our phones 16 times before you drop yours once.

16Quality receives special attention at gigaset. eight comprehensive quality tests make sure that every phone performs, even under extreme conditions. The free-fall is the first of these tests. each phone is dropped onto a steel plate 16 times from a height of 1.52 metres. We then test with dust, humidity, heat, cold, sunlight, and even a dirty pocket, to simulate everyday wear and tear.

We push our phones to the limit to make sure no latent defect slips past, so you can be sure that every Gigaset performs perfectly.

it’s not just extremes that we test for: everyday wear and tear is the most likely cause of damage to a handset. in the jeans pocket test, we put them into a trouser pocket with a mixture of cut-up tissues, dust and tobacco – in and out, 5,000 times.

unusual? Maybe. necessary? Absolutely. We do this to test the dust-proofing and scratch resistance of the casing. All this makes sure that your Gigaset is tough enough for whatever life throws at it.

the highest quality phone needs the highest quality packaging. We use a specialised packaging assembly robot to shape flat cardboard into the boxes that will keep Gigaset phones safe as they make their way across the world. up to 250 cartons can be filled per minute. Thanks to this efficiency, we save 150 tonnes of paper, and reduce our emissions of co2 by 240 tonnes each year.

our phones get moving even before they leave the factory. conveyor belts bridge between the six assembly lines and the central transfer hub, ferrying the perfectly packaged products at speeds of 14 metres per minute. The cartons race through 132 curves, over five storeys, on the 21 kilometre-long conveyor line. A central control unit makes sure that each product ends up in the right place – ready to leave the plant.

With intelligent logistics, we’ve decreased the amount of space our packaging takes up, making it possible to cut out 31 percent of all truck transports, saving on fuel and emissions. our optimised global logistics network enables delivery times of only 20 days, worldwide. so everyone can benefit from German quality, no matter where they live.
