What We Will Recreate

First, copy the needed tracker data into a scratch workbook

This is from the individual

assessment tabs. Copy the columns

and put them side-by-side


Put It In A Scratch Workbook Like This

This is the data we’ll need to

create the graphic


Sort The Data Once You’ve Copied It All

Notice that it begins again

with Assessment #2 as you move

down the data

Sort this data by standards mastery, lowest to highest for each round of

assessment. That’s how we’ll get the

bars to line up nicely on our

graphical display.

Next, organize the data so that Excel will make

the figure you want


Organize The Data So It Looks Like This

Notice that we’ve kept the

data sorted, but put boys and

girls in different columns

You’ll need the data just like

this.

Now, highlight the organized data and tell

Excel what kind of graphical display you

want


Highlight The Data

Highlight ALL the data,

including column headers


To Make The Figure, Select The “Insert” Menu

Select “Insert” and select “2-D

Column”


That Gets Us This. We’re Getting Close!


Go Ahead And Delete The Numbers Under The Axis

Just click on this box and delete. We don’t need these numbers keeping count of data points.


Scale The Axis Next. It Shouldn’t Go Up To 1.2, only 1.0

Right-click on the vertical axis


Scale The Axis Next. It Shouldn’t Go Up To 1.2, only 1.0

Change this to 1.0 from 1.2


Then Make The Values Percentages, Not Numbers.

Change this to percentage

Lastly, make the figure accessible by adding title, axis labels, etc.


To Add Titles, Go To The “Layout” Menu

Select “Chart Title” and pick “Above Chart”


Type In The Title


To Add Axes Labels, Go To The “Layout” Menu

Select “Axes Titles” and

select “Primary Vertical Axis

Title” (Rotated)


Type In The Vertical Axis Label


Adding the A#1, A#2, A#3, and A#4 Is Tricky.

Select “Chart Title” and pick “Horizontal”


Type In The Axis Label

You’ll type in an axis label for

A#1


Then Create Some Space For A#2 Label

You are tricking Excel into

allowing you to create your own

label for the axis


Then Create Some Space For A#3 Label


Finally Create Some Space For A#4 Label

You may have to manually slide the axis over to make sure the labels align to the columns
