Today’s Psalm Response

I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God. (Psalm 145)

Our Adult Faith Word, Eucharist, Life

Fifth Sunday of Easter

John 13

This is how all will know that you are my disciples,

if you have love for one another. Jesus’ act of ultimate love is celebrat-

ed in the Eucharistic assembly

as the memorial of his passing over

through death to life

We continue to participate

in this memorial beyond the time of

the liturgical celebration

when we bear Christ’s love to others

by joyful service

in the many forms of foot washing

We follow Jesus’ command to do

as he did for his disciples

including Judas

Our witness to the world

shows forth God’s glory

by the work of the Cross expressed

in small acts of self-giving

The Spirit will guide us perhaps

to plant flowers for a busy Mom

to read to a child or a sick person

To wash that dirty car next door

The Spirit of Jesus knows

the many needs around us

The call can be to heroic deeds but is

most often an invitation to

the simplest acts of love

united with the self-giving of Jesus

This is how all will know . . . .

use wheelchairs and walkers. Of course, handicap parking is

reserved for those who need it, but remember

that wheelchairs and walkers require extra room to maneuver, so thank you for maintaining clear access

The Sacred Heart of Jesus Stained Glass Window

You may have noticed that the stained glass window of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is no longer displayed in the Narthex by the playground. It is

finally being relocated to its original home on the west side of the church. It was removed from the outside of the church years ago and stored away. Anne Stub-blefield retrieved it and had it mounted and back lit so we have been able to enjoy it again in these recent years as we enter the Narthex through the glass doors.. The Building and Grounds team will soon install the window on the outside of the church with appropriate back lighting so that all can once again enjoy it from the outside.

The Catholic Diocese of Memphis in Tennessee

The Diocese of Memphis offers programs of

psychological and spiritual assistance to abused

victims in need.

Did you know that you can set up your offerings to St. Patrick Church through

the Parish Giving option on our website? Your contributions will be automatically deducted from your checking or savings

account or credit card and deposited di-rectly to St. Patrick’s bank account.

It’s a safe and easy way to make your do-nations. Just go to www.parishgiving.org or www.stpatsmemphis.org and click on

Church Parking Challenge

As you know parking near the Forum can

be a real challenge. At St. Patrick we are very fortunate that COGIC owns the large

parking lot across 4th Street from the church

and graciously allows us to use it at no charge to you on Sun-

days for our Masses and for special events at the church. (We do make a small dona-

tion to COGIC as a thank you.) When there is a Forum or other downtown event that

conflicts with the parish, COGIC still re-serves spaces for our parishioners. When entering the lot, just tell the attendant that you are going to St. Patrick and he

will allow you to park at no charge. Thank you to our good neighbor, COGIC!

Please pray for our St. Patrick

community every day

Come Celebrate the Vigil of the

200th Birthday of MEMPHIS

5:15 Mass in the Church

Tuesday May 21, 2019

Birthday Cake will be offered

in the Narthex following Mass

Welcome to Margaret Cowan

Volunteer Coordinator

I have been in Memphis since 2011. I quickly became active in my local church,

where I served as it's Youth Leader for four years. I have a passion for Memphis and it’s

residents so I am very excited about the opportunity to serve the St. Patrick commu-nity as the part time Volunteer Coordina-

tor, the newest staff position.

I am a single mother of three teenage

daughters so I am no stranger to hard work. Because I understand the challenge

of raising God-fearing children in this age, I run a monthly support group for women such as myself.

I believe in the power of God to exceed abundantly above all we can ask or think. I

plan to put that belief into action here with the St. Patrick community. Won't you join me in this cause?

Eh? What Did He Say? If you are hard of hearing, Good News! We have new listening devices for your use during Mass. Please see the Sacristan to use one of these devices.

More Than a Meal Next Sunday, May 26 is the last

week of the month,

when we serve a sit-down, hot meal to

our hungry neigh-bors. Please bring cakes for the des-

sert and drop them off in the Center by 11:00am. Did you know…The Bulletin is available (in

color!) on line at www.stpatsmemphis.org.

Update on our Parish Finance Council

In the last fifteen months, our St. Patrick Parish Finance Council (PFC) has worked very hard in getting a clear understanding of our finances here, and the Council has updated you, the pa-rishioners, regularly. As you know, two months ago the leadership of the Parish Pastoral Council rotated off two members and brought on two new PPC mem-bers. This month I am doing similarly with our Finance Council. Bob Reilly and Mike Duffy have worked hard on our PFC and have made signifi-cant contributions to its betterment. In the name of the parish, I thank them as they will leave the PFC. I have appointed two new mem-bers to our Parish Finance Council, and they have graciously accepted: Andrea Nichols and Phil Woodard. They are joining the team of Mike Stengel (PFC chair) and Sharon Evans.

Love is the one business in which it pays to be an absolute spendthrift: Give it away; throw it away; splash it over; empty your pockets; shake the basket; and tomorrow you’ll have more than ever.

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
