EPISODE 2: THE TEACHER IN THE CLASSROOM

OBSERVATION REPORT

School Observed:

School Address:

Date of Visit: August 06, 2012

The ambience of the room was good for learning because it is well ventilated. It has adequate lighting and clean.

The teacher has the mastery of the subject matter because the flow of discussion was smooth. The class observed manages to tackle the subject matter in a short period of time therefore making it possible for the teacher to go to the next topic.

Supportive Measures Observed

Effectiveness of the Supportive Measures

1. Organizational Plan The teacher has provided both

individual activity and group activity

The organizational plan is very effective

because you can see the pupils are active

The flexibility  of the classroom

organizational plan should be maintained by

the teacher and the pupils

2. Schedule All activities are done in their own right time

By giving an allotted time for the task to be performed the teacher

makes sure that the students will give  their

100% attention

Keep on following the schedule to perform the

task properly

3. Record Keeping The teacher is always checking the

assignments of the pupils

By recording the pupils achievement, the

teacher makes sure that the pupils get their due

grade

Continue to record the performance of the

pupils fairly

4. Physical Environment

The classroom, in general; is very

conducive to learning because of its

cleanliness

Pupils are very comfortable in their

classroom because of the cleanliness

Maintain the cleanliness of the classroom

5. Discipline The teacher always makes sure that his

pupils follow proper behavior

It is always important that pupils are

disciplined to have an orderly class

Continue to discipline the pupils

6. Routines The routines are good. The pupils can do it with less supervision

It is important to establish a standard

routine for everyone to follow

Make sure that the routines are followed

properly

9

ANALYSIS

In what area of classroom management was the teacher most effective? Which of the supportive measures were effective? Why?

Page 20: Field study 6

All of the supportive measures observed were effective except for some issues with discipline which in my opinion are just naturally given that the observed students were just minors.

In what area of classroom management was the teacher least effective? Which supportive measures were not effective? Why?

It cannot be said that the teacher is less effective when it comes to discipline, there may be some issues with it but it should be considered that the students are minors and are prone to disciplinary issues.

Suggest more effective ways for your answer in number 2.

I think it is normal that you can’t follow all the guidelines in classroom management when it comes to the actualization of the activity.

Sometimes teachers have to give a lot of time to emphasize the topic to the pupils.

10

REFLECTIONS

Describe at least 3-5 characteristics of a teacher who can establish a well-managed classroom.

The teacher should be organized, strict but fair and dedicated to the teaching profession to be able to establish a well-managed classroom.

Page 21: Field study 6

What characteristics do you have at present that can make you an effective classroom manager? Elaborate how these characteristics can help you.

At present I can claim that my characteristics are being organized and fair. By being organized I can easily assign tasks to myself and my would be pupils. Fairness is a trait that a teacher should always have, for without it no pupils will respect him even if they fear him.

What characteristics do you have at present that can hamper you from becoming an effective classroom manager? How can you overcome these characteristics?

Focus is the main characteristic that this writer lacks at the moment. But with due time and given more responsibilities he believes that he will overcome it.

EPISODE 3: THE TEACHER AND THE COMMUNITY

COMMUNITY TOUR OBSERVATION REPORT

School Observed:

School Address:

Date of Visit:

Locality of the School

The School is located at, near the city proper.Issues/Concerns/Problems of the Community

The community has no issues, concerns  or problems that can affect the school not even traffic or pollution.Community Resources

Page 22: Field study 6

Quarry, farm ( rice, vegetables and onions ) and construction materials.Community Assistance/Service Given by the School

The school helps in keeping the vicinity clean always. They also join whatever activity the community comes up with.

12

 ANALYSIS

Suggest new ways by which the school can creatively use resources of the community.

If there are vacant lots near the school they can ask the owner to let the school make a flower/vegetable garden in it. In that way the community benefits from whatever produce the garden can make and also keep the place clean.

How can the school address the issues/concerns and problems of the community?

The school can be an important help to any problem the community is facing thru information drive. They can also coordinate with the present community officers and ask them in what way they can be of help.

What possible linkages can the community and the school have?

The community could  offer scholarships to poor  but deserving students who cannot afford to go to school.

Page 23: Field study 6

13

 REFLECTIONS

How did you feel while you were going around the community? What things did you learn that you might have taken for granted before?

I have learned that the community and the school are inter-related because whenever there is an activity in the community the school always participates in those activities such as tree planting, clean-up drive, beautification projects, etc. Same also for the school, whenever they need some helping hand in the form of money or labor the community tries its best to help.

As a future teacher, what do you think will be your role in the community?

Page 24: Field study 6

As a future teacher, I will serve the community by being a good example to them. Teach my students the proper values and how to help the community in their own little way.

How will you encourage more community participation among teachers and students?

By volunteering everytime the community is doing a worthwhile project such as tree planting, clean-up drive, beautification projects, etc.

CLIP ART ESSAY

Title: The future Global Teacher

Message: With the rapid growth of information technology, personal computers, netbooks, tablets and other personal devices will greatly aid the teachers of the future. By being able to store large amounts of data some of these devices take the equivalent of  20 textbooks or more. The future classrooms will be equipped with LED screens to better display the lessons and as it is also touch screen capable, so interacting with the lesson is more enjoyable for  the teacher and the students.

Reflection: With the undeniable influence of technology in future education especially in more advanced countries, a teacher who wants to teach in a country that uses these technologies in their educational system should at the earliest possible time learn how to use these gadgets.
