Fiddler on the Roof
Frank Sinatra's agent asked that he be considered for the original production of Fiddler on the Roof!
Fiddler on the Roof held the record for the longest running show on Broadway for 10 years, when it was succeeded by Grease
When Fiddler on the Roof premiered in Poland in 1985, the show's authors donated their royalties to preserving the country's Jewish monuments.
Three villages in Yugoslavia were transformed into Anatevka for the film, released in 1971
Robert De Niro read for the role of Perchik—the role in the film eventually went to Paul Michael Glaser, who later became Starsky in the hit cop TV show Starsky & Hutch.
Beam me up, Hodel! In 1971, Star Trek star Leonard Nimoy played Tevye for eight weeks in Ohio, Massachusetts and upstate New York in a local touring production.
The title of the musical and Boris Aronson's set design for the original production are based Marc Chagall’s painting “The Fiddler.”

POST PRODUCTION LUNCH
Fiddler On The Roof’s post production lunch will be
held on Sunday 10th December at To Thanasi in
Emba. If you are in any way involved in the
production—on stage, backstage, building, painting,
FOH.....the list goes on! - you are entitled to come
along! There is a sheet on the notice board in the
auditorium where you can add your name. Money
for the meal can be given to either Nigel or Fiona,
both who will be at all Fiddler rehearsals. Due to the
anticipated large numbers, if you haven’t paid by
Wednesday 6th December, your name will be
removed from the list!

Our Annual Dinner Dance and PAFTA Awards Evening will be at ‘The Elea Golf Resort', Geroskipou on Saturday 10th March 2018.
It was felt that we should try a new venue for the 2018 PAFTAS, hence the move to Elea. Unfortunately as the venue is not a hotel you cannot book a room. However there are hotels a short taxi ride away should anyone wish to book an overnight stay.
The ticket cost is yet to be decided, but will be UNDER €35 per head, and once confirmed, our Treasurer will be quite happy for anyone to pay by instalments.

Are you fed up hunting out people at
the theatre to pass on a Christmas Card
only to find that they’ve just left!
We now have our own ‘Post Box’ in the
theatre for you to post your Christmas
Cards for members. The cards will be
distributed at December Club Night by a willing team
of elves. The elves will deliver only to those who are at
the theatre, they will not deliver to family and friends
who are not there!!!!
Simon Welch will be directing Sequence of Events, a short one act play for the March 2018 Club Night. In the first instance please contact Simon at [email protected] to express an interest in appearing in the production. It will depend on the number of members willing to be in the play, whether auditions are necessary or not. This will be performed as a “staged reading”.

Elea Golf Resort Geroskipou
We are sad to advise members of the death of Arthur England who died in November at the age of 84 after a long illness, in the UK. Arthur was a larger than life character and may not be known to many members but he was involved hugely with Stage One about 17 years ago and was a Stage Manager for many of our productions at that time. He went on to continue to work as a Stage Manager at the Questors’ Theatre in London when he left Cyprus. We send our condolences to his daughters and son. A donation, on behalf of Stage One, has been sent to the Care Home where he was living at the time of his death. The photograph taken in 2002 during the run of ‘Deathtrap’ shows Arthur with some familiar faces. Dave Mackay, Clive Richards, Caroline Harman Smith, Paul Minvalla, the late John Davis and Tony and Gillian Ford.
