SUMMARY

The Grounds Maintenance worker provides a variety of services such as mechanical repair, general maintenance, and overall handyman.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other du es may be assigned. • Provides grounds maintenance services. • Cleans and performs preventa ve maintenance on equipment and tools. • Sets up and breaks down equipment and furniture for func ons when required. • Services and reports mechanical malfunc ons. • Is aware of, reports, and removes any possible safety hazards. • Is aware of and reports any unauthorized person on the premises. • Maintains building exterior as needed. • Maintains property including but not limited to grounds, offices, produc on areas, public areas, and equipment,

ensures all maintenance and repairs are completed in a mely, cost-effec ve manner and according to all specifi-ca ons.

• Conducts daily property inspec ons. • Ini ates energy conserva on measures where appropriate. • Ensures that all major maintenance ac vi es are conducted according to industry standards and Diocesan Policy. • Liaison with outside vendors on property ma ers. • Also responsible to perform other du es as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent. Relevant experience in similar posi on and knowledge of hea ng, ven la ng, air-condi oning systems, refrigera on, electrical, ligh ng, plumbing, carpentry, pain ng and other generally under-stood maintenance skills preferred.

• Must have knowledge of grounds equipment opera on. • Knowledge of the proper use and disposal of hazardous materials, safe handling techniques, and use of proper

safety equipment as outlined by OSHA. • Must have repair skills for minor equipment. • Must be self-mo vated and prompt in performing tasks. • Must successfully pass Diocesan background screening and Safe Environment Training. • Possess valid Florida driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee may be required to sit and stand for prolonged periods, bend, crawl, and stretch. The employee may also be required to li up to 75 pounds and climb ladders. Exposure to climate changes, uncomfortable temperatures and fumes. Climb a ladder to height of 35 feet and use scaffolds. Works with machinery requiring considerable cau-

FAITH FORMATION REGISTRATION WILL TAKE PLACE ON THE WEEKENDS OF AUGUST 3-4, 10-11 & 17-18

STUDENTS MUST FIRST BE REGISTERED WITH THEIR FAMILIES AT ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CATHOLIC CHURCH!

REGISTRATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AFTER SEPTEMBER 13, 2019!

ALL STUDENTS MUST HAVE A COPY OF THEIR BAPTISM CERTIFICATE IN THEIR FILE!

PLEASE PROVIDE THIS TO THE FAITH FORMATION OFFICE AT REGISTRATION!

IF THE BAPTISM CERTIFICATE HAS NOT BEEN RECEIVED BY THE FAITH FORMATION OFFICE, THE STUDENT CAN NOT BEGIN CLASSES!

• Students must register for the Faith Formation Program each year, even if they have been in the program previously. We will need proof of prior attendance in a Faith Formation program or Catholic School other than St. Thomas Aquinas. • Registration is for students in Grades 1-Confirmation! • Sacramental programs at St. Thomas Aquinas are two-year programs! Students who desire to receive First Reconciliation/First Eucharist or Confirmation must have completed a year of Faith Formation prior to the year of receiving the sacrament. These classes are also offered for students who have passed grade 2, grouped by age and grade. • Tuition: One student—$60.00; Two students—$110.00; Three or more students—$160.00. Additional sacramental fees of $50 per student for First Reconciliation/First Eucharist and $50 per student for Confirmation will also be collected. A minimum of 50% of tuition per family must be paid at Registration! The remaining balance will be due November 30, 2019! NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE UNLESS PREVIOUSLY APPROVED! (If you need financial assistance, please contact the Faith Formation office). Families may request a payment plan as an option. All fees are non-refundable once your child’s first scheduled class has begun. Fees cover all materials. Additional $20 per student “late fee” from September 1st through the 13th! • Sessions for Faith Formation and Confirmation will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 – 8 p.m. in the School building. • The program year will begin with an Orientation Night for all PARENTS AND CATECHISTS (No students!) on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. in the School Cafeteria. • The first class night will be Wednesday, August 28th from 6:30 – 8 p.m. • ADULT CONFIRMATION: Any adult who has not been confirmed but has been baptized in a Catholic church may enroll for this class which will be held on Tuesday evenings in the School from 6:30—8 p.m.. The fee for this course will be $60.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults): For all who seek Baptism (Adults) or for those baptized in another Christian tradi-tion and who seek to join the Catholic Church, an appointment must first be scheduled with the Pastor, Fr. Kent Walker, to deter-mine each individual need! Children and Youth who seek Baptism should contact the Director of Faith Formation, Joseph Fey. RCIA students will meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 – 8 p.m. in the School Cafeteria (Adults) and in the School building class-rooms (Children & Youth).

EL DESEO DE DIOS PARA SER CONOCIDO

La lectura del An guo Testamento del libro del Deuteronomio alaba a Dios por escribir los mandamientos en nuestros cuerpos. La ley de Dios no es extraña o distante, sino una parte natural de nosotros. En su carta a los colosenses, san Pablo hace eco de Moisés, alabando a Dios por ser uno de nosotros. Él, verdaderamente humano, de carne y hueso, Jesús nos re-cuerda que Dios siempre quiere ser para nosotros alguien familiar al quien podemos recono-cer, el que es verdadero Dios, quiere estar en buenos términos con cada uno de nosotros.

El deseo apasionado de Dios para ser conocido por nosotros es tan maravilloso para disfru-tarse. El Evangelio de Lucas nos ayuda a entender cómo responder. La parábola del Buen Samaritano nos provee de consejos prác cos para quienes creen en la in midad del amor de Dios para ellos y quiere compar r ese amor con otros.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE

Desde 1913, en la ciudad de Puntarenas, Costa Rica, la Virgen del Carmen es reconocida como la Virgen del Mar. En aquel año un barco llamado el Galileo naufraga en una tem-pestad y el pueblo angus ado por sus seres queridos recurrió al templo de la Virgen para pedir auxilio. Algunos días después todos los tripulantes fueron rescatados y llevados a Puntarenas. Según los tripulantes, mientras las lluvias y vientos amenazaban al Galileo una mujer los animó a que se echasen al agua y nadaran a erra firme. Allí ella los alimentó y los acompañó hasta que fueron rescatados.

Llenos de alegría, el pueblo llevó a los rescatados a la iglesia para dar gracias. Estos reco-nocieron a la Virgen del Carmen como la mujer que los había ayudado. Desde entonces el sábado más cercano al 16 de julio, el pueblo celebra en grande la fiesta del Carmen con grandes desfiles de barcos y yates. Entre música y fuegos ar ficiales los costarricenses vienen en embarcaciones adornadas desde toda la nación a celebrar con la Virgen del Mar que también se encuentra en una embarcación.
