The Department of Mathematics & Computer Science (MACS) at Fort Hays State University prepares students for careers in industry, education, software engineering, and much more. The development of problem-solving skills, logical and sequential thinking with real world application and opportunities provide students with a balance of application and theory, which offers numerous advantages in the workforce.

Degrees are offered in Computer Science with a variety of emphasis areas to choose from, including in geographic applications, mathematics, networking, physics, software development, technical studies, and cyber security. Students majoring in mathematics may choose the industrial/academic option or the education option if they wish to teach in middle or high school.

Student ScholarshipsScholarship support can come in the form of gifts to the Mathematics & Computer Science scholarship fund, or by establishing an annual or endowed named fund.

Consumable ResourcesStudent support, including tutoring and paper grading, as well as faculty necessities, are examples of items that need to be renewed on an annual basis.

Classroom EquipmentUpdated computers are needed to enhance the department’s modern resources so students are better prepared for the workforce. New manipulatives and software are necessary to better prepare teachers for the classroom. Additional software would better prepare Computer Science students for an ever-changing field of information.

Endowed Professorship of MathematicsAn endowed professorship is key to attracting and retaining an outstanding and inspiring faculty member in the Mathematics & Computer Science department.

SymposiumEstablishing a symposium would allow our students to be exposed to mathematics and computer science scholars from a variety of different fields, and backgrounds.

Travel FundsFunds are necessary in order to send our students to regional and national conferences to broaden their connections in the field of mathematics and computer science.
