    I Know My Savior Lives

  • God Is the Father Of My Spirit

Opening Song: I Lived In Heaven CS pg. 4

    Opening Prayer:

Acts 17:29: We are the offspring of God

1 John 4:4: Ye are of God, little children.

1 Cor 8:6: But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

"God has known you individually, brethren, for a long, long time (see D&C 93:23). He has loved you for a long, long time. He not only knows the names of all the stars (see Psalm 147:4; Isaiah 40:26); He knows your names and all your heartaches and your joys! By the way, you have never seen an immortal star; they finally expire. But seated by you tonight are immortal individuals--imperfect but who are, nevertheless, 'trying to be like Jesus'!" Neal A. Maxwell, "Remember How Merciful the Lord Hath Been," Ensign, May 2004, 46

"Let us all recognize that each of us is a son or daughter of our Father in Heaven, who loves all of His children."

Gordon B. Hinckley, "The Need for Greater Kindness," Ensign, May 2006, 58

"There has come to you as your birthright something beautiful and sacred and divine. Never forget that. Your Eternal Father is the great Master of the universe. He rules over all, but He also will listen to your prayers as His daughter and hear you as you speak with Him. He will answer your prayers. He will not leave you alone."

Gordon B. Hinckley, "Stay on the High Road," Ensign, May 2004, 112

Use these quotes to help your family understand the divinity of their spirits!

In These Three I Believe President Gordon B. Hinckely, Ensign, July 2006 I believe without equivocation or reservation in God the Eternal Father. He is my Father, the Father of my spirit, and the Father of the spirits of all men. He is the great Creator, the Ruler of

  • the universe. He directed the Creation of this earth on which we live. In His image man was created. He is personal. He is real. He is individual. He has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as mans (D&C 130:22). The Plan of Salvation Elder L. Tom Perry, Ensign, Nov 2006 Many people wonder, Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where are we going? Our Eternal Father did not send us to earth on an aimless, meaningless journey. He provided for us a plan to follow. He is the author of that plan. It is designed for mans progress and ultimate salvation and exaltation. Quoting from the missionary guide Preach My Gospel: God is the Father of our spirits. We are literally His children, and He loves us. We lived as spirit children of our Father in Heaven before we were born on this earth. We were not, however, like our Heavenly Father, nor could we ever become like Him and enjoy all the blessings that He enjoys without the experience of living in mortality with a physical body. Gods whole purpose His work and His gloryis to enable each of us to enjoy all His blessings. He has provided a perfect plan to accomplish His purpose. We understood and accepted this plan before we came to the earth ([2004], 48). Pull out some old family pictures and talk about how you can see similarities between parents and children, even in other families. Discuss how we have parents here on earth who are the parents of our physical bodies. Similarly, we have parents in Heaven who are the parents of our spirits. You can play a version of Guess Who of your own family! (It says, Im thinking of a person who has _____ hair and ______ eyes. going on to describe other characteristics starting with most general and leading to more specifics until the person is guessed!)

Closing Song: I Am A Child Of God Hymn No. 301

    Closing Prayer:

  • Jesus Christ Is the Son Of God

Opening Song: I Know That My Redeemer Lives Hymn No. 136

    Opening Prayer:

Article of Faith 1: We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

Matthew 17:5: While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

(Jesus baptism) Matthew 3:17: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

"With all my heart and the fervency of my soul, I lift my voice in testimony today as a special witness and declare that God does live. Jesus is His Son, the Only Begotten of the Father in the flesh. He is our Redeemer; He is our Mediator with the Father. He loves us with a love we cannot fully comprehend, and because He loves us, He gave His life for us. My gratitude to Him is beyond expression.

"I invoke His blessings upon you, my beloved brothers and sisters, in your homes, in your work, in your service to one another and to the Lord Himself. Together we shall move forward doing His work."

Thomas S. Monson, "Looking Back and Moving Forward," Ensign, May 2008, 90

"To all who may have doubts, I repeat the words given Thomas as he felt the wounded hands of the Lord: 'Be not faithless, but believing.' Believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the greatest figure of time and eternity. Believe that his matchless life reached back before the world was formed. Believe that he was the Creator of the earth on which we live. Believe that he was Jehovah of the Old Testament, that he was the Messiah of the New Testament, that he died and was resurrected, that he visited the western continents and taught the people here, that he ushered in this final gospel dispensation, and that he lives, the living Son of the living God, our Savior and our Redeemer."

Gordon B. Hinckley, "Be Not Faithless," Ensign, Apr. 1989, 2

  • Lesson:

This is one of those topics that can be a very powerful testimony-building opportunity for your family. I would encourage you to keep the lesson simple and bear your testimony of how you know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. You can start by reading The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles, or just part of it. You can also expand on the two quotes from President Monson and President Hinckley.

Here is a link to The Living Christ: http://lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?locale=0&sourceId=735b862384d20110VgnVCM100000176f620a____&vgnextoid=e1fa5f74db46c010VgnVCM1000004d82620aRCRD

Elder Bruce R. McConkies last conference address is also a good resource. It is very powerful! Here is one of my favorite parts:

As pertaining to Jesus Christ, I testify that He is the Son of the Living God and was crucified for the sins of the world. He is our Lord, our God, and our King. This I know of myself, independent of any other person. I am one of His witnesses, and in a coming day I shall feel the nail marks in His hands and in His feet and shall wet His feet with my tears. But I shall not know any better then than I know now, that He is God's Almighty Son, that He is our Savior and Redeemer, and that salvation comes in and through His atoning blood and in no other way.

God grant that all of us may walk in the light as God our Father is in the light so that, according to the promises, the blood of Jesus Christ, His Son will cleanse us from all sin. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Have everyone write their testimonies of Jesus Christ in their journals.

  • Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ Love me January Week 3

Opening Song: My Heavenly Father Loves Me (CS, 228-29)

    Opening Prayer:

Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said How important it is for every human soul to see and appreciate the glory and grandeur of God in everything about usAll the marvels of nature are glimpses of his divine power and expressions of his love. From Gods Love for His Children, Ensign, May 1988, 5759

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said: He loves each of usinsecurities, anxieties, self-image, and allWalk peacefully. Walk confidently. Walk without fear and without envy. Be reassured of Heavenly Fathers abundance to you always.

    Scripture: 1 Nephi 17:36; Genesis 1 (Creation)

If someone you love very, very much was going on an important journey, how would you help him

prepare? You might give him a special gift to use while he was away. You would want the gift to be

something that would show him every day how much you love him. It would be exciting for him to find

the gift when he arrived at his destination. You would have to plan carefully... You might ask someone t
