funding pediatric cancer research.

Why I Am Here

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1pdZ1W-MZs

C.J. was diagnosed with CML at age 11. He

endured 2 1/2 years of treatment including 3

bone marrow transplants. He finally defeated his leukemia in 2014, but

ultimately lost his life last July at age 13 to a fungal infection acquired during his 8 ½ month hospital stay. I am here because he wrote in his journal,

“even though we have to go through this horrible

experience, we will turn it into something brilliant.”

Our Mission

• To raise money and awareness of childhood cancer causes, primarily research into new treatments and cures.

• To encourage and empower others, especially children, to get involved and make a difference for children with cancer.

What We Do

We raise money from lemonade stands and other events, then award this money in the form of grants to researchers looking to find better treatments and cures for all kids with cancer.

Where the Money Goes

• Since 2000, $100 million raised ($30 million from lemonade stands)

• In 2014, less than 15% of donations went to administrative costs

• Funded 500 research grants to more than 100 top institutions across North America

• Scientific Advisory Board reviews the grants each cycle and votes which projects to fund

• We also fund nursing grants to improve the quality of life and care of children with cancer.

How We Help Kids With Cancer

Saving LivesWhen Edie was just 6 months old, she

was diagnosed with stage 4

neuroblastoma. Edie enrolled in a clinical

trial testing a drug that is used to treat

lung cancer in adults. For 7 out of 8

children in the trial, including Edie,

their cancer disappeared.

ALSF provided funding to the research

team that developed the breakthrough

trial.

What We Do: Travel Fund

Fighting childhood cancer often includes a financial burden on families. Our travel fund offers

assistance to families who need to travel for childhood cancer treatment to select medical institutions across the U.S.

To date, ALSF has helped families by funding:

• More than 400 flights

• 2,800 nights of lodging

• 17,000 gas cards

• Grocery store gift cards

What We Do: SuperSibs

• A program dedicated to comforting, encouraging, and empowering siblings during the family’s battle against childhood cancer

• Childhood cancer affects the whole family, not just the child who receives the diagnosis
