    The E3/T3 Fiber Optic Modems FH-E and FL-E convert the E3/T3 copper

    interface to fiber optic signals and vice versa. One of the device's advan-

    tages is the data transparency, which allows an independence from the

    application and a flexible employment. By using the benefits of fiber optic

    technology, a low bit error rate, high reliability, galvanic separation of the

    concerned units and high transmission distances are ensured.

    The FH-E and FL-E are used in the WAN area where the interconnection

    of LANs becomes necessary. In this case they serve as an E3/T3 extensi-

    on. Furthermore, they allow the point-to-point connection between PDH

    multiplexers via fiber optic cables.

    Local and remote loops can be activated by pushbutton providing a suita-

    ble tool for error source isolation.For monitor and control purposes, a con-

    trol processor is available which can be accessed via VT100 or SNMP.The

    optional Fiber Doubler increases the existing cable capacity by transmit-

    ting and receiving data on a single fiber instead of two.

    The modems FH-E and FL-E can be delivered as standalone units or as

    rack mount cards supporting the PANDATEL universal rack concept.
