F&F A FURNITURE & FITTINGS SKILL COUNCIL INITIATIVE Issue 6 F&F AN EYE TO FURNITURE: JOURNAL OF FFSC ISSUE: 6 JAN-FEB -2018 From the Chairman’s Desk Dear Readers, My warmest greetings to you all. Welcome to the first edition of F&F Skills Network of 2018. I wish this new year proves to be a year of long lasting peace, harmony and global prosperity. This year, Union Finance Minister Shri Aurn Jaitley presented a well-balanced budget with a focus on adderssing the fundamental needs of education, research and vocational eductaion. We hope the budget will impact the Skill India mission positively. Respective State Skill Missions will conduct zonal and state level competitions for shortlisting the candidates for World Skills Competition to be held in Kazan, Russia, 2019. The talented youths must come forward to participate in India Skills 2018 to get a chance to present their skills at international level. This year three skills of Furniture & Fittings has been introduced for the skill competition. Competitiors can choose either of the skills like carpentary, cabinet making or joinery to showcase their experstise in woodworking. We are going to operate two mobile skill vans “Kaushal Rath” in the state of Jharkhand for doing the RPL programme in the remotest corner of the state. The vans are enabled with GPS sytem and provides real time location for a better monitoring. Quality skill development training is crucial for FFSC to provide employment opportunity to the certified youths, FFSC has tied up with Housejoy and Skillemployee.com. As a regular activity we have also organised a meet for our affiliated Training Partners and Assessment Agencies. These kinds of meet acts as a knowledge sharing platform for all our stakeholders and help in raising the standards of training and assessment. We are going to particpate in Indiawood 2018 at Bengaluru. Indiawood is the exhibition for furniture manufacturing and the wood working industry. The event is going to be organised from 8 th to 12 th March 2018. We invite you to visit our stall and the Indiawood exhibition. Skill Summit 2018, Momentum Jharkhand

Jharkhand Skill Development Mission Society (JSDMS) aims to establish Jharkhand as the “ Skill Hub of India” in the next five years. The State Government has organised Skill Summit 2018, Momentum Jharkhand on 12th January 2018, the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and the National Youth day, at Ranchi. The Mission has distributed 25,000 job offers to the youths of the state during the Skill Summit. JSDM has also launched the “Skill Policy 2018” on this day. Honorable CM oh Jharkhand Mr. Raghubar Das and Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister, MSDE was present at the event.

Furniture & Fittings Skill Council participated in the skill exhibition with both “Skills on Wheels” demonstrated at the entry of the venue. The live skilling was also demonstarted on power tools during the exhibition. FFSC will be operating two Skills on Wheels in Jharkhand under “Recognition of Prior Learning” programme of JSDM. Carpenter communities in Jharkhand will be the prime beneficiaries of this training module which will be executed under the aegis of JSDMS and FFSC.

MoU signed with Housejoy

FFSC and Housejoy has entered into an agreement during January 2018 to add value to the skill development programme by providing employment and entrepreneurship opportunities to the skilled, trained manpower in wood, furniture and fittings sector. Housjoy will raise their demand in terms of experienced, trained and skilled manpower in wood, furniture and fittings sector according to the approved job roles of FFSC and will share the detailed of skilled manpower. The skilled manpower will be shortlisted by Housejoy and will be contracted by Housejoy as a service partner and will be benefitted by getting work from Housejoy.

MoU signed with Skillemployee.com

FFSC alswyas strives to provide employment to its skilled certified trainees. In an effort to reduce the gap between the potential employer and the trainees, FFSC has signed MoU with Skillemployee.com. This unique online portal connects entry level, mid level and blue collar jobs seekers with mainstream employers anywhere in India. This venture will help to give job solution to the candidates, skilled and trained manpower to the employer.

2nd Meet of Assessment Agencieis

A half day review meeting of affiliated Assessment Agencies was orgnaised at CII, Gurgaon on 7th January 2018 . The objective of the meeting of Assessment Agency was to have a review of the assesments. The guidliens of Training of Assessors and assessment were also discussed. The Assessment Agencies also shared their process of assessment and best pracitces. Different issues and problems related to assessment were also discussed. The first meet of Assessment Agency was organsied in August 2017.

Training Partner’s Review Meeting FFSC has organised a review meeting of Training Partner’s on 2nd Feb 2018 at Gurgaon. Various new job roles, enegagement with State Skill Missions, registration on SMART portal and assement related issues were discussed during the Meet. Training partners registereted themselves with Skillemployee.com to increase the employability of the certifiied candidates. FFSC GPS enabled Mobile Skill Van in Jharkhand Two mobile skill vans – Kaushal Rath with GPS enabled sytsem running in Jharkhand to implement camp based Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in state of Jharkhand. The GPS software installed in the vans help in tracking the movements of the van for better execution of the project. FFSC is implementing RPL under the scheme of Saksham Jharkhand Kausahal Vikas Yojna (SJKVY).

News from the Web IKEA founder Ingvar Kamprad has died at 91 Nearly 75 years after he founded IKEA, revolutionizing the way affordable furniture is designed and distributed, Swedish business magnate Ingvar Kamprad died on 27 January, 2018 at the age of 91. Kamprad built a global company and became a self-made billionaire in the process. Upon his death, Kamprad was the eighth-richest person in the world, worth an estimated $58.7 billion, according to Bloomberg. "He will be much missed and warmly remembered by his family and IKEA staff all around the world," the company said. IKEA officials have said such lists, which compared his wealth to that of Warren Buffett or Bill Gates, erroneously considered IKEA's assets as his own. IKEA is owned by foundation that Kamprad created, whose statutes require profits to be reinvested in the company or donated to charity. The estate inventory showed that Kamprad donated more than $20 million to philanthropic causes in 2012 alone.

IndiaWood: 8th -12th March 2018, Banaglore INDIAWOOD is one of the world’s leading exhibitions for the furniture manufacturing and the woodworking industry. It offers its audience a comprehensive overview of the prevailing technological innovations and the latest manufacturing trends in furniture manufacturing, woodworking technologies, tools, fittings, accessories and raw materials. INDIAWOOD takes place every two years. The next event, from 8 - 12 March 2018 at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre, will be INDIAWOOD’s 10th edition.

Gabon turns global woodworking hub The year 2017 proved quite an eventful year for Gabon special economic zone (SEZ) in terms of veneer units getting into production mode and signing of agreements for new units. A total of 14 investors (including from India, China, Sri Lanka and Egypt) signed up land agreements. Three investors who already had their veneer manufacturing plants in the SEZ and have now signed new agreements to augment their current production capacity.

States to conduct Skill Competition The State Government will conduct skill competition at its respective district as part of India Skills 2018 and World Skill International Competition 2019. The Centre has instructed the States and Union Territories to conduct the competition among the students of skill training competition and prepare the action plan and strategies.

Budget 2018: Insights and impact on education, skilling and jobs Allocations to different domains in Budget 2018 creates direct or indirect opportunities for workforce training, basic skilling and upskilling, creation of jobs, promoting entrepreneurship and creating livelihoods. While in skilling sector, outlay for the aspirational PMKK is raised to Rs. 3,400 crores in 2018-19, the budget also continues to with focus on apprenticeship training to 50 lakh apprentices by 2019-20 with an outlay of Rs 10,000 crore.

3.16 lakh candidates placed under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (2016-20) in less than two years of its launch In less than two years of its launch, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) (2016-20), the flagship scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has taken multi-fold strides. The scheme has achieved a landmark milestone of 3,16,671 placements (as on February 2018). With nearly 55 per cent successful placements, the Short-Term Training Program (STT) under PMKVY (2016-20) is an effective, refined and demand-driven endeavour, with an over-riding focus on quality of training.
