What is the vision behind RoboExNovo?

What is the vision behind RoboExNovo?

What is this on the table??

What is the vision behind RoboExNovo?

What is this on the table?? Let me take a snapshot and search on the Web…

..if the robot could learn from the Web like us….

What is the vision behind RoboExNovo?

Let’s see on the Web..

Ok, now I know what to do with it

Part B2

Interview

Interview: the talk is for the non experts The panel is made of 12-16 experts –at most two will be from your

field of expertise, but all 16 will vote on your application

Target the talk to the non expert –ask colleagues in your dept for dry run, mock panel, ideally not from your own field

Target the talk to the non expert –ask colleagues in your dept for dry run, mock panel, ideally not from your own field

Distill the concept, try to intrigue/seduce them (lots of talk, lots of people, … try to stick out!)

Example

Interview: Q/A is for the experts Within the panel, one expert will be in charge of your proposal, and it

will be the closest to you in terms of expertise

She will have had all the time to proof read your proposal, and she will have had all the feedbacks from reviewers (that she will have chosen)

Interview: Q/A is for the experts Within the panel, one expert will be in charge of your proposal, and it

will be the closest to you in terms of expertise

She will have had all the time to proof read your proposal, and she will have had all the feedbacks from reviewers (that she will have chosen)

She will make high-level technical questions that will focus on any possible weakness of Part 2 (real or perceived)

The more questions you manage to anticipate, the more answers you prepare in advance, the better chances you will have to make a gretainterview

Example (.pdf)

Interview: do your homeworks

There is a tendency to alternate among panel members –you can anticipate a 40% of whom you’re going to meet

There seems to be a tendency to add previous ERC winners (advanced, consolidators and starters) to panels –look at previous winners and you might anticipate your experts

Look at previous ERC-StG winners and see if you know any of them –most likely you do. Ask for slides, proposals, feedback on your slides, interview stories…

Proposal: the usual advice

CV: sell yourself hard

Part B1: think of charming the panel

Proposal: the usual advice

CV: sell yourself hard

Part B1: think of charming the panel

Part B2: think of the experts and reviewers

True for everything: ask previous winners, try to get as many previous submissions as possible to get a feeling of what flies and what doesn’t

True for everything: ask previous winners, try to get as many previous submissions as possible to get a feeling of what flies and what doesn’t

Don’t take no for an answer –I applied four times before I got it, three times in a row went to interview, three times was ranked A eventually, got it only the third time

A lot of work, but definitely worth it so… good luck!
