REPORT 2017
On behalf of Team AIWMI, I take this opportunity to thank Escorts AMC, MF Utilities, iMoneyplant, Financial Education Week (FEW) volunteers and host organizations for making FEW2017 such a resounding success. Through this unique national initiative, it’s for the first time that 683 volunteers came together over a week to organize 158 financial literacy sessions on a pro-bono basis in 51 cities across India. More than 10000 people were trained during FEW2017.
The success of such initiatives always depends on the time and support that the financial services industry is willing to o�er. It’s really heartening to see most of our volunteers and partners getting actively involved in executing this first-of-its-kind-initiative.
We are confident that FEW2018 will build up significantly more based on the success achieved this year and the experience earned. We invite all of you to be a part of this defining financial literacy and inclusion initiative in FEW2018.

Financial Literacy has always been part of the core mission of National Institute of Securities Market (NISM). Being partner to Financial Education Week (FEW) 2017 we have been able to reach out to audience ranging from students, senior citizens, working professionals, home-makers etc. I am sure that through outreach e�orts like FEW, we will be able to raise awareness among the masses to know more and understand better about the financial services, products o�ered and assessing overall financial health.
The Financial Education Week is going to be an important annual activity in the coming years to spread financial education to every corner of the country, which in turn will lead to a higher level of financial literacy and financial inclusion in India.
In the second year of its set-up, FEW was able to garner support of 638 volunteers which is very commendable. FEW2017 has given financial literacy mission a form of movement and I am sure more and more people will keep getting involved in this movement in the years to come. On behalf of NISM, I sincerely thank these volunteers who conducted financial literacy sessions across the country. I also extend my gratitude to our partners from financial services industry to make FEW-2017 a successful event. I invite you all to be part of making FEW 2018 a much bigger success.

We, at Escorts Mutual Fund, believe Investor Education is equipping investors with the appropriate tools to help them make sound investment decisions, going beyond information sharing and explaining the nuances.
Caveat Emptor was legal foundation on which contractual agreements were entered till mediaeval ages. With increased complexity in goods and services and pace of technological transformation, the communication landscape has changed and the focus is towards caveat venditor. As we see, this is also apt in case of our industry that has been grown significantly both in terms of size and complexity of products. In our experience, we have also found that there are a number of commonplace misplaced ideas and beliefs even among the literate ones that it becomes absolutely essential to dispel the myths.
It certainly is a long road and has several challenges both in terms of complexity of issues as well as time required to pursue such an agenda, although technology has made this relatively simpler. Nonetheless, we believe that as the Chinese proverb goes ‘give a man a fish, and you fed him for a day; show him how to catch fish, you feed him for a lifetime’.
We have always been seeing all activities with regard to Investor Awareness or Financial Education always pertain to information on products. However, the awareness to investors need to be not just on products but also on process. MFU was delighted to be a part of the Financial Education Week conducted by Association of International Wealth Management of India (AIWMI) particularly since they were keen to include the process of investments along with the product information in the Financial Education Week. MFU is initiated by the Mutual Fund Industry under the aegis of AMFI to be a “Transaction Aggregation System”, thereby, providing convenience to invest in multiple Mutual Funds under a single account.
AIWMI has taken the initiative to include the way to invest in Mutual Funds by opening a Common Account Number (CAN) in the overall content of Financial Education. This was a major driving factor for MFU to be a part of this Financial Education Week in helping the investors benefit out of their e�orts put in towards financial inclusion by having this Financial Education Week.
