My career in dance started at the age of 5 years in Highland dancing. As one of 5 girls, this certainly set me up

with how to stretch my toes and turn my knees out. As a tweeny, I persuaded my mum to ask the ballet

teacher to let me join in classes with my younger sister. Over the next 5 years I did double grades and

finished all my Highland exams and ISTD Modern exams. I successfully auditioned for full time training at the

Brisbane Dance Centre under Valarie Bail. I completed my Ballet exams in RAD and then, as I was 18 by the

end of the year, I was old enough to audition for companies……………So I did.

Fortunate on my first ever Professional Audition, I gained a dancer’s spot with a Sydney dance

company called Dance Encore Productions. For the next 7 years I danced professionally in Variety shows,

Magic shows and Cabaret shows in Australia and Japan.

Then I came back to NZ and life took over. I had a dancing school in Fielding which taught Ballet, Jazz and

Highland. Then I moved to Wellington where I took a break from dancing. However, my love of Musical

Theatre saw me on stage once more, where I performed in a lot of semi and professional shows, and met my

husband.

Eventually we moved to Auckland, where we still reside.

My love of dance continued with owning my own dancing school in South Auckland, while enjoying watching

my daughter grow and become a beautiful dancer herself from comps and hard work (now full time in

Melbourne).

I now teach at Studio 246 and Bays School of Dance on the North Shore of Auckland, work at Pure Dance

Retail shop, adjudicate, convene the SPACS Competition and sew dance costumes. I’m a one stop shop really.

I am so looking forward to judging down in Christchurch; my first time ever to your beautiful city. I’m looking

forward to Cheese Rolls…...

I am excited to see all the performers and wish you well. A small quote, of many that I like: 'It takes an

athlete to dance, but an artist to be a dancer’
