Festa della Liberazione “Cittadini, lavoratori! Sciopero generale contro
The anniversary of the liberation of Italy (also called Liberation Day, the anniversary of Resistance or simply 25 April) is the national Italian Republic Day which falls
on April the 25th every year.
It is a crucial day in the history of Italy and it has a special political and military significance as a
symbol of the victorious military resistance and political struggle carried out by the partisan
forces during World War II, from 8 September 1943 against the fascist government, the Italian
Social Republic and the Nazi occupation.
April the 25th, 1945 is the day when the Committee of National Liberation of High Italy (CLNAI) - whose
headquarters were based in Milan, proclaimed the national uprising in the territories still occupied by the fascists,
indicating to all active partisan forces in the North Italy to attack the fascists and German garrisons imposing the
yield, days before the arrival of allied troops.
• Every year in several Italian cities are organized marches and demonstrations to commemorate the Feast of Liberation. Torino and Milan were the first two cities liberated, then came all the others.
