this weekend, which includes schedules
for Masses and devotions throughout
the season as well as educational
opportunities and the regulations of
the Catholic Church for fasting and
abstinence. There will be devotions
on Monday evenings in O’Brien County
and Tuesday evenings in Spencer. You
will find Lenten meals in Spencer,
Primghar, Sanborn, and Sutherland.
Lent may seem daunting or over-
whelming to some. I would suggest
that you choose one practice during
the season that will help you to grow as
a person and enhance your relationship
with Jesus. Pick one practice, commit
to it, and do it well.
Lent can help us become better individ-
uals and also our prayers and activities
together can help us grow as a Faith
Community. May God bless you with a
Lent of Fulfillment.

ASH WEDNESDAY: Instead of class on February 26th, all St. Joseph O'Brien County Faith Formation students will be expected to attend the 6:00 p.m. Ash Wednesday Mass located at St. Joseph Church. Following Mass, children are welcome to leave with their families.
SPENCER LENTEN LUNCHES: With the coming of Lent, the Lenten lunches will start next week with Ash Wednesday. We need parish help provid-ing salads and bars on March 18th. If you can bring either to Hope Reformed Church by 9:00a.m. (the doors will be open by 6:00a.m.), please call Terry Gruhn at 712-580-3943 and leave a message.
O’BRIEN COUNTY CONFIRMATION SERVICE PROJECT: All 2020 O’Brien County confirmation candidates are required to take part in a service project opportunity on Saturday, February 29th. Candidates will explore missionary work by offering their willing hands & serving the homeless at the Gospel Mission in Sioux City, IA. Transportation and meals will be available to all students. Candidates need to be ready to leave the St. Joseph parking lot by 9:30a.m.
2020 SEARCH RETREAT: Attention all High School Sophomores, Juniors, & Seniors-don't miss out on the perfect opportunity to strengthen your faith while meeting some awesome new friends. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS SCHOLARSHIPS: The Sacred Heart Knights of Columbus will be accepting applications for 3 $500.00 scholarships for seniors graduating in May 2020 with the intent to attend either a 2 year or 4 year college in the fall of 2020. Youth must be a Catholic in good standing at Sacred Heart Parish. Seniors from Spencer High School can obtain scholarship information from Spencer High School Guidance Office when available. All others will need to contact Rich Detrick at 712-363-0188 to obtain the scholarship application.
ST. LOUIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS: The former Board of Directors of St. Louis Parish in Royal established a memorial scholarship of $750 to be awarded to two deserving high school graduates. Applicant must be a graduating senior who is planning to attend college, who is a member of Sacred Heart Parish of Spencer, and a Catholic in good standing, attending Mass regularly.
