This work shows the life of the most famous Portuguese navigator in the world: Ferdinand Magellan. Also, It tells the First Circumnavigation of the Earth and his death at the hands of the Indians.

  • 1. Biography Ferdinand Magellan (Sabrosa, North Region,Portugal, Spring 1480 - Mactan, Philippines,April 27, 1521) was a Portuguese explorer. Serving the King of Spain, discovered what isnow called the Strait of Magellan, the firstEuropean to pass from the Atlantic Ocean tothe Pacific Ocean, previously called South Sea.He began the expedition, led to his death byJuan Sebastian Elcano, achieved the firstcircumnavigation of the Earth in 1522.

2. Early years as an explorer In March 1505, at the age of 25, he joined theIndian Navy. Magellan had a crucial role advising Sequeiraand saving Serro. This acts earned honorsand a promotion. Serving the new governor, Alfonso deAlbuquerque, participated with Serro in theconquest of Malacca in 1511. Then, he participated in various battles such asthe Battle of Azamor (Morocco). 3. First circumnavigation of the Earth To discover most of the Americas, the navigators were stilllooking for the way to get by sea go to the islands of spices.Ferdiand Magellan, Portuguese sailor at the service of Castile,was the first reached the Eastern Indies by Western. Magellans expedition consisted of five ships with their crews. The navigation began in Sanlucar de Barrameda. Then, cameto the east coast of South America across the Canary Islandsand Cape Verde Island. Bordering the east coast of South American, they went to southto get to Cape Horn and reach to the Pacific Ocean across theStrait of Magellan.
