A haz, the King of Judah at the time of

Isaiah, was an apostate--he had gone

to the worship of idols, hoping to save

his kingdom, and had put his infant son to

death in a sacrifice to one of them. And, of

course, it had done no good--the enemy had

the city of Jerusalem surrounded...BUT even

this poor, grieving deluded wretch of a man

and miserable leader as a king was not be-

yond the loving mercy of God, and Isaiah

blessed him, in spite of his sin, with a prom-

ise of future greatness. Paul, in our second

reading, sees that promise made to Ahaz as a

harbinger of the coming the Messiah, in

Whose service he, Paul, has placed his life.

And Matthew, too, uses the ancient promise

made to Ahaz to illustrate the manifold bless-

ing of God in the birth of the Christ. Friends,

we all live in the shadow of ancient promises,

just as valid today as they were when they

were made. Each prophet was conditioned by

his place and time---but, the Word of God

lives. Let us put our faith in those promises of

old, and our lives in the service of the One

Who made them.

E n el tiempo de Isaías, el Rey de Judá

Ajaz era un apóstata, es decir que

alababa a los ídolos esperando a que

salvarían su reino, y hasta sacrificó a muer-

te uno de sus hijos a uno de ellos. Claro que

no hizo nada ya que el enemigo tenía rodea-

da la ciudad de Jerusalén… PERO hasta es-

te pobre hombre afligido y engañado no

estaba fuera de la misericordia amorosa de

Dios. Isaías lo bendijo a pesar de su pecado,

con una promesa de tener un futuro gran-

dioso. En la segunda lectura, Pablo ve a la

promesa que se le hizo a Ajaz como una se-

ñal del Mesías que vendrá, en Cuyo servicio

Pablo había puesto su vida. Mateo también

ve a la promesa que se le hizo a Ajaz para

ilustrar la gran bendición de Dios en el na-

cimiento de Cristo. Amigos, todos vivimos

en la sombra de promesa antiguas, así de

válidas el día de hoy como cuando se hicie-

ron. Cada profeta fue condicionado por su

lugar y tiempo– pero, la Palabra de Dios vi-

ve. Pongamos nuestra fe en esas promesas

del pasado, y nuestras vidas en el servicio

de Aquel Quien las hizo.

H oy escuchamos acerca de José y su parte en la

historia de la Navidad. José dejó de lado sus ex-

pectativas y planes para hacer la voluntad de

Dios. Él estaba dispuesto a creer en un Dios que se le en-

señó acerca de su fe, un Dios que nos ama y Quien quiere

lo mejor para cada uno de nosotros. Esto puede suceder

de manera diferente que como esperamos. Sé que para mí

cuando las cosas van de manera diferente a lo que yo es-

peraba, me siento molesta y fuera de onda. Sin embargo,

sé muy dentro que lo que Dios quiere es lo mejor para mí.

Tenemos que pedirle a Dios que nos dé la fuerza que ne-

cesitamos para aceptar las cosas, incluso si no son lo que

esperábamos.

¡Gracias a todos los que nos ayudaron a celebrar nuestro

90 º aniversario. ¡Qué bendición para nuestra parroquia!

Pidamos a Dios que siga bendiciendo a Santa Águeda y

nos ayude a llegar a ser la Parroquia que Él quiere que

seamos.

T oday we hear about Joseph and his part in the

Christmas story. Joseph put aside his expecta-

tions and plans to do the will of God. He was

willing to believe in a God he was taught about in his

faith, a God who loves us and wants the best for each

of us. This may happen differently then we expect. I

know for me that when things go differently than

what I was expecting, I feel upset and off kilter. Yet I

know deep inside that what God wants is what will

best for me. We need to ask God to give us the

strength we need to accept things even if they are not

what we were expecting.

Thank you to all who helped us celebrate our 90th

anniversary. The day was a blessing to our parish. Let

us ask God to continue to bless St. Agatha’s and help

us to grow into the Parish He wants us to be.

We would like to take the time to thank all of the peo-ple that come, and help us out on Saturdays. All our CCD and Confirmation catechist, and to our wonderful office helpers. Without any of them we wouldn’t be able to do what we do. We had a successful Posada this pass Saturday with our CCD children, filled with reenacting the journey of Mary and Joseph, laughter, signing and piñatas; without the help of the catechists, and planning, we wouldn’t have been able to do it. And to our Office helpers that helped us by staying in the office to help every parent, and for those that were running around with us making sure the piñatas were ready to go. We would also like to thank the Family Catechesis for their support and commitment, not only by coming Saturdays to teach the parents, but also by coming on Wednesday. And to our catechist that come Sundays to volunteer with CLOW, Liturgia de la palabra, and Early Childhood. We would thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts, even when your heart have no bottom. We want to wish you a Merry Christmas, filled with Love, Laughter, Hugs, and that your hearts are filled with the birth of Jesus this Christmas. Once again thank you for all you do.

Queremos tomarnos el tiempo de darles las gracias a todas las personas que vienen a ayudarnos los sába-dos. A todos nuestros catequistas y a nuestros ayudan-tes de oficina. Sin ustedes no podríamos hacer lo que hacemos. Tuvimos una Posada exitosa este sábado pasado con nuestros niños del catecismo, con la jornada de María y José, llena de rizas, cantos y piñatas; sin la ayuda de los catequistas y sin planeación, no hubiera sido posible. Gracias a nuestros ayudantes de oficina quienes ayudan a los papá, y por todos que estaban corriendo viendo que la piñatas estuvieran listas. También queremos darles las gracias a la Catequesis Familiar por su apo-yo y entrega, no sólo viniendo los sábados sino también los miércoles. Y a nuestros catequistas del domingo que nos ayudan con la Liturgia de la Palabra y la Educación Infantil. Les damos gracias desde el fondo de nuestros corazones, aún cuando sus corazones no tienen un fon-do. Les deseamos Feliz Navidad, llena de Amor, Rizas, Abrazos, y que sus corazones estén llenos con el naci-miento de Jesús esta Navidad. Otra vez, gracias por todo lo que hacen.
