spring willow

As one of the earliest signs of Spring, the branch of the Pussy Wil-low is a beautiful symbol of the change of seasons and the be-ginning of a new life in marriage. The strong yet flexible nature of the willow branch is representative of the nature of a relationship that can bend in the wind, but not crack under pressure. The dia-monds on the shank mirror the furry catkins on the willow branch, with platinum entwining around them towards the centre stone.

choosing yourdiamond

When selecting your perfect diamond, you need to re-member the all important 4 C’s, cut, colour, clarity and carat weight, but also bear in mind your own C: cost.

cutThe cut of a diamond allows it to make the best possible use of light. if the stone is cut too deep or too shallow, light can escape before it has the chance to reflect within the facets, losing the desired sparkle.

A popular misconception is that the cut of a diamond refers to the shape it is cut, where actually it refers to the amount of facets cut into the diamond. Although do bear in mind the desired shape of the dia-mond wanted by the recipient.

colourDiamonds are graded by colour ranging from completely colourless to vibrant colour hues, known as “fancy diamonds’. The best colour for a diamond to be is completely colourless, but the less colour, the more rare and therefore expensive.

At Fei Liu, we use G-H stones which are ‘near colourless’ on the dia-mond grading chart, which are some of the best colourless diamonds on the market. the colour of the diamonds we use make it easy for light to pass through, creating a beautiful sparkle.

clarityA diamond’s clarity is a description of its internal purity. All diamonds contain small impurities called ‘inclusions’, these inclusions are not al-ways visible however can affect the reflection of light through the dia-mond. The five factors that determine clarity are: size, number, position, nature and colour, which helps place the diamond on the clarity scale. We use diamonds of a VS standard, meaning very small inclusions which are not noticable to the naked eye.

carat weightDiamonds are weighed in carats, where one carat is divided into 100 points, therefore a half carat diamond is 50 points. Although the carat weight reflects the size of the stone, it does not necessarily reflect the price as two stones of the same carat weight with a different cut, colour and clarity would be priced differently.

Our engagement rings come in either 25 points or 50 points, however we can source and set a stone for you, or set your own stone within one of our rings.
