Greetings!

As I reflect back on the past year, I am overcome with gratitude for all who have helped the Catholic Community Foundation of Mid-Michigan succeed. It is through an everlasting faith in God and the generosity of our donors, board members, volunteers, and staff that CCFMM has been able to distribute nearly $12 million over 13 years. These distributions have provided tuition assistance for elementary, middle, high school, and college students, supported seminarian education, sponsored mission trips, helped parishes and schools with capital expenditures, and so much more. Many beneficiaries including students, clergy, the elderly, the sick, and those who face hardships are touched by these endowed funds. The Foundation is eternally grateful to our supporters for their prayers, gifts, and help in spreading God’s love.

CCFMM is proud of all that has been accomplished the past 13 years and we are looking forward to the next 13 being even stronger. We reflect on the words written in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” With generous stewards like you, the Foundation’s future is undoubtedly bright.

Community Impact academic and leadership qualifications as well as participation in the football program at Nouvel Catholic Central High School. “A memorial endowment is a significant way to honor a loved one,” said Kristin Smith, Executive Director of the CCFMM. “There are so many good people who have given a lasting gift. An endowment will guarantee that their memory will continue in perpetuity through good works that benefit the Church and community.”

CCFMM Memorial Funds are a beautiful way to remember loved ones and carry on their legacy.

There are more than 200 memorial funds managed by CCFMM. They support all categories of giving including Catholic Schools, Catholic Scholarships, Christian Service, Community Service Agencies, Evangelization Outreach, Faith Formation and Religious Education, Foundation Operations, Parishes, Vocations Support Funds and Donor Advised Funds. Some of the memorial endowments are earmarked for specific charities or projects that families have recognized as important to their deceased loved ones. For example, Aloysius Ryczek’s love of music was demonstrated in his work with the Men’s Choir at the former St. Stanislaus Church in Bay City. After his passing, his wife set up the Aloysius Ryczek Endowment Fund to support the music programs at Bay Area Catholic Schools, now known as All Saints Central Catholic Schools.

Likewise, the Rod Luplow Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established to celebrate Rod’s accomplishments on and off the football field. As a tribute to him, family and friends designated that the college scholarship be awarded based on

Small Things With Great Love: The Mother Teresa Fund Written by Mary Beth Looby

Community Impact Kate Connors, President of Life Choices in Mount Pleasant, loves that the Mother Teresa Fund allows their clinic to give parents the additional, practical help so many desperately need: “The Mother Teresa Endowment has been such a blessing here at Life Choices.  We are so grateful to be able to give clients and patients with extra need the gift of a new car seat or pack and play. For those receiving these essential items, their tears of joy speak volumes... Thank you for making these moments possible.”

A Life Choices client shares this: “When we first found out that we were pregnant, I had just lost my job, we just had a switch of apartments, and we had nothing. The fact that I can have peace of mind knowing that my little one is going to be safe is truly amazing.” Another recipient of the Mother Teresa Fund is LifeClinic Commuity Resources in its Saginaw and Midland locations. LifeClinic Executive Director Lori Drake had this to say about the help they receive from the Mother Teresa Fund: “With Michigan’s--especially Saginaw’s, high infant mortality rate, we work hard to reduce that by offering free car seats and pack and plays, and we have a “Safe Sleep” education class as well. Therefore, money from the Mother Teresa Fund is of crucial importance in our efforts to save babies’ lives.”

Since February 2018, the Mother Teresa Endowment Fund has donated more than $18,000 to crisis pregnancy centers around the Saginaw Diocese.

Letter from the Executive Director Happy New Year!

I pray that the first few months of 2020 have treated you well. Please enjoy this special edition of our newsletter as we reflect on the accomplishments of 2019 and look forward to the exciting things to come in 2020.

In 2019, CCFMM distributed $1,123,977 to 250 recipients. We became more active on Facebook and shared stories on our website about funds that support catholic schools, our poor and vulnerable funds, and our memorial funds. We launched our first #GivingTuesday campaign and sent our first newsletter to 1,982 households. We celebrated the accomplishments of our parish leadership through our annual appreciation luncheon and raised over $90,000 through the BIG Raffle. 2019 was also the year I had the honor of being named Executive Director. As I continue to meet with parish, school, and community leaders it has be come more clear to me than ever that I am where God intends me to be.

There are many exciting things on the horizon for the Catholic Community Foundation in 2020. To kick off the year, CCFMM partnered with the Office of Catholic Schools to develop new high school and college scholarship application processes. 2020 will also see the implementation of a new management software that will allow for donor management, grant management, gift processing, and finances to be under one system. The BIG Raffle is in full swing with over 40 participating parishes and schools. In 2020, CCFMM intends to further increase awareness of the Foundation as well as increase communication, donation income, and distributions. We have set high goals for ourselves this year, but we know that through God all things are possible and we are honored to do His work.

With the Lenten season underway, we ask that you pray for God’s intercession to enhance the blessings that your endowed gifts provide to the community. We are grateful to Bishop Gruss, the Saginaw Diocese, and our donors and friends for their continued support as we work to achieve our mission of joyous giving in Christ forever meeting the needs of all God’s people.
