Middle School News Aside from our monthly updates, there are a variety of ways you can keep up with EMS! Check our website@ ms.eustaceisd.net Like us @ facebook.com/EustaceMiddleSchool Follow us @ twitter.com/EustaceMS Vaccines As we enter the second semester of the school, we want to take this opportunity to give notice to our current 6th grade students that they will need several immunizations before entering their 7th grade year. The State of Texas requires students to have their 2nd dose of the varicella vaccine (chicken pox), a menin-gococcal vaccine and a Tdap vaccine (or adult teta-nus) before they are able to attend school. It is best to go ahead and take care of this early and send the rec-ords to the office, so we can update their file and have them ready to go next school year! Lawson Thompson is the first runner up. There were at least 150 students participating in the spelling bee, which included sixth, seventh and eighth graders. Both will compete in the Hender-son County Spelling Bee on February 7, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. in the Middle School Library. Good luck to both of them on the next part of the competition. In order to participate in each bingo ses-sion, students need to have perfect attendance with no tardies, 80 or above in all classes, no referrals and no zeros. The next round will take place in March, after the completion of the 4th six weeks. Robotics Club EMS had 3 teams compete in the Region 7 TCEA Robotics Competition in Lufkin on Friday, January 17th. They did an amazing job representing Eustace in our very first competition. We had two teams finish in the top 5, against a total of 26 teams from 12 districts. Looking forward to a bright future in our robotics program! Art Art students helped make decorations this year for the School Board Appreciation Banquet January 12th. Close to 100 thank you sentiments were writ-ten to the school board members on student deco-rated paper hands and stapled to Caution Tape, do-nated by Jacob Da. Rebekah Rigby, Lydia Recer, Emilee Cranford, Mattie Patek, Ethan Kobelia and Logan Hallman made cardboard “schools” for cen-terpieces on the tables. Yearbook: Congratulations to the yearbook staff on completing the second publishing dead-line. Spring sports photos have been resched-uled for March. Band: The band is off to great start on the Spring activities. We have several students par-ticipating in UIL Solo and Ensemble which was held Feb 1st. The rest of the band will continue working on pieces for the UIL Concert Contest on March 3rd. We had four members of our band (Nate Hol-land, Elexis Porte, Phillip Starnes and Dylan worth) perform in the Region 3 Assoc. of Texas Small School Bands All Region Band on Satur-day Jan. 19th. The concert was terrific, and the students enjoyed the rehearsals too. Great things continue to happen for our Eustace band We also had one MS student perform in the Re-gion Band (Cannon Kilcrease). Our region band is mostly 4A members. Out of the 320 perform-ers only 60 come from 3A or smaller schools. Baseball: Baseball practices started on January 31st. This year we have a great turnout for baseball, and everyone is excited. The young men are working hard getting ready for the sea-son to start. High School News Early Childhood Update: Early Childhood would like to say thank you to Mrs. Martin for inviting us to the library. She is so wonderful with our little ones. We are thankful for her invitation this year. Early Childhood four-year-old classes each received Kindle tab-lets. Our students have enjoyed using the new technology! We are gearing up for CLI testing. I know our students will rock these assessments! We enjoyed seeing the newly wrapped EISD bus! It is a good time to be a Eustace Bull-dog! Kindergarten Update: Kindergarten has had some excitement this month! The children had fun walking out to our bus loop to see our new wrapped bus. Thank you for letting us all have a chance to see it up close! It was quite an experience for all of us! Kindergarten has also introduced a new incentive program where we choose a star student from each class every week. This student receives a certificate and a standing ovation from all of kindergarten on Friday afternoon. This is an awesome achievement for our kindergarteners. We have also begun a new reward system campus wide called the Pawsitive award. This is where any teacher can refer a stu-dent for a positive reason they have observed. These stu-dents get a Sonic drink, a certificate and have their picture taken. 1st Grade Update: First grade students are learning about the long “e” pattern in the form of “ee, ea,” and when “e” stands by itself, but still says its name. They also studied words with CK for their spelling pattern. The students worked hard to learn 120 sight words so far this year. We also learned about pen-guins and the importance of keeping their germs to them-selves. First grade is a busy place we are learning so many things like songs to help us learn about verbs, math facts, and we are starting to take AR test on our books. 2nd Grade Update: It is a great time to be in second grade! We have been learn-ing about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the impact he made on the world. Looking into other cultures is always fun, such as researching Chinese Lunar New Year. Second graders are also looking forward to a visit from TVEC and will learn electrical safety tips and ways to conserve energy. Our second graders are reading diligently to earn the AR field trip in May. Students must have an AR average of 85, have 75 AR points and have a “Super Reader 2” classifica-tion to earn this trip.
