The Tony Cruz-trained Time Warp (Archipenko) was an impressive winner of the Hong Kong Gold Cup (Gr 1, 2000m) at Sha Tin yesterday

as he lowered a track record which had stood since 1999.

The British-bred five-year-old has emerged as major force in Hong Kong this season, winning the Hong Kong Cup (Gr 1, 2000m) over the same course and distance in December, and yesterday he became the first horse to complete 2000 metres at Sha Tin in under two minutes, stopping the clock at 1:59.97.

The gelding was able to work across to lead from his draw in barrier seven after the first 300 metres, and former Hong Kong champion jockey Zac Purton was able to dictate even fractions thereafter in the HK$10,000,000 race.

He kicked for home at the top of the straight and briefly looked vulnerable as Werther (Tavistock) moved alongside at the 200 metres, but he found more in the closing stages to turn his rival away and score by half a length, with the same distance back to Seasons Bloom (Captain Sonador) in third.

Winning rider Purton was suitably impressed with Time Warp’s performance, which saw the gelding lower Jim And Tonic’s (Double Bed) previous course record of 2:00.10, set nearly 19 years ago.

“That was quite some performance, wasn’t it?” Purton said. “We’ve been racing here for a long time now and there’s been a lot of good horses grace this track, so it’s a credit to the horse.

“You don't want as much pressure as he had today, every time I thought I could back the speed off a little bit more and take a breather they kept going at him and kept making him do it, which I thought may happen. Thankfully he still came out on top.”

Cruz revealed he had been confident Time Warp would come out on top yesterday and after the race, ruled out any possibility of the gelding heading to Dubai in the coming weeks.

“I expected him to win. This time they put the pressure on, they pushed the pace. I still believe he can go further even. I think he’s a horse that will prove he can win the QEII Cup,” Cruz said.

“He’ll stay back for the rest of the Hong Kong races – maybe next year we’ll go places with him. I don't want to gamble with the chance that he goes to Dubai and doesn’t feel 100 per cent when he comes back to run those races in Hong Kong. I’m going to play safe.”

Though defeated, trainer John Moore was full of praise for the runner-up Werther, and it was revealed afterwards that the six-year-old had bled during the race.

“Hugh (Bowman) got a head in front and he said he thought he was going to sustain it and kick a little more, and then we’ve seen that the horse has bled, so that’s probably the reason why,” Moore said.

<< Continued from page 2 Time Warp (5 g Archipenko - Here To Eternity by Stormy Atlantic) has now won ten and placed in seven of his 25 career starts for prize money earnings of £2,603,020.

Bred by Kirsten Rausing, he was sold to Jeremy Brummitt as a yearling at Tattersalls Ireland by her Staffordstown Stud for €37,000. He is one of four foals out of the winning mare Here To Eternity (Stormy Atlantic) and is a brother to the dual winner Glorious Forever, while his second dam is the German stakes winner Heat Of The Night (Lear Fan).

His third dam Hot Thong (Jarraar) won at Grade Three level and was Grade One-placed in Brazil, while this is also the same family as stakes winners Ninotchka (Nijinsky), Annihilation (Northern Afleet) and Lemon Drop Gal (Lemon Drop Kid). The further family also includes fellow Archipenko (Kingmambo) Group One winner Madame Chiang and interestingly also traces back to Archipenko himself.

Beauty Generation continues brilliant season

The New Zealand-bred Beauty Generation (Road To Rock) continued his stellar campaign with a brave victory in the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup (Gr 1, 1400m) at Sha Tin yesterday, in the process giving Zac Purton a Group One double.

<< Continued from page 4 The John Moore-trained gelding began his season with a win in the Celebration Cup (Gr 3, 1400m) in October before adding the Sha Tin Trophy Handicap (Gr 2, 1600m) and Hong Kong Mile (Gr 1, 1600m) to his haul, and yesterday he showcased all of the battling qualities that have aided him on his brilliant run of form.

He contested the early gallop with Peniaphobia (Dandy Man) before quickening into the lead around 400 metres from home, though Beat The Clock (Hinchinbrook) and Fifty Fifty (Thorn Park) were in hot pursuit.

The progressive Beat The Clock looked sure to go past with around 100 metres to race, but Beauty Generation lifted close home to score by a head, with Fifty Fifty a further three quarters of a length behind in third.

Winning trainer Moore has now saddled the winner of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup on seven occasions, and he praised Beauty Generation’s versatility.

“He’s very versatile, isn’t he? He was one of our Derby horses and that’s what we thought he’d be, but at the beginning of this season I approached owner Patrick (Kwok) and said, ‘I’m going to make a miler of him,’ and we did,” Moore said.

“We have put the speed into him and he’s kicked on, he’s come back to 1400 metres and he’s won today so I’ve been proven right – and I think Patrick is still scratching his head and wondering how we’ve done it.”

Purton was complimentary of Beauty Generation’s attitude in fighting back for a narrow win having briefly been headed.

“He was headed, but he waits for the other horses to come to him a little bit,” Purton said.

“He gives a bit of a kick and then he just wanders. I think I have Joao to thank, though. He snuck up on my inside, quiet as a church mouse, but as he got on level terms, he roared at his horse – but my horse kicked!

<< Continued from page 6 “He’s definitely surprised us all at the level he’s got to, but I did say to John last season that I thought he’d be a better horse next season.

“I think he’s proven that he’s a 1400 metre to 1600 metres horse, somewhere around that range just seems to suit him. He gets out, he makes all, he’s got that high cruising speed and he can kick.”

Beauty Generation (5 g Road To Rock - Stylish Bel by Bel Esprit) has now won eight and placed in seven of his 20 career starts for prize money earnings of $5,273,640.

The five-year-old, who was Group One-placed as a three-year-old when raced as Montaigne in Australia, is one of three named foals out

of the unraced Stylish Bel (Bel Esprit), who is a half-sister to the stakes winners Victory Trump (Euclase) and Savage Attack (Made Of Gold).

His second dam is the stakes placegetter Stylish Victory (Durham Ranger), while this is also the same family as Group One-placed Essence (Fastnet Rock) and Group Three-placed Hivortic (Manihi).

He is one of three stakes winners for his Wellfield Lodge-based stallion Road To Rock (Encosta De Lago).

Three for Pluck

The Scott Brunton-trained Life On The Wire (4 m ex Our Seventh Heaven by Vettori) made it five straight wins and seven overall when she took out yesterday’s Vamos Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m) at Launceston, the third stakes winner for her sire Pluck (More Than Ready). Life On The Wire ($2.30), who was twice placed at Listed level as a three-year-old, was ridden to victory by Craig Newitt, defeating stablemate Step The Pedal (Elvstroem) ($14) by one and three quarter lengths, with Gee Gees Top Notch (Wordsmith) ($7) another long head away in third place. The Vinery Stud-based Pluck, who stood for a fee of $9,900 (inc GST) in 2017, is also the sire of Group Three winners Mongolian Wolf and Aspect. Tasmanian Oaks to PleasuringVictorian-trained filly Pleasuring (3 f Hard Spun - Sleeplessinseattle by End Sweep) made it back-to-back interstate stakes wins yesterday when victorious in the Tasmanian Oaks (Listed, 2100m) at Launceston. The Darren Weir-trained three-year-old, who won the Strutt Stakes (Listed, 2100m) at Hobart on 11 February, added yesterday’s $150,000 race to her record by one and a half lengths. Ridden by Damian Lane, Pleasuring ($2.20 favourite) defeated the John Blacker-trained Gone Girl (Cardinal Virtue) ($41), with the Danny O’Brien-

trained Berkshire Lady (Star Witness) ($21) another long head away in third. Bred and raced by Contract Racing, Pleasuring is one of 62 stakes winners for her sire, the former Darley shuttler Hard Spun (Danzig).

Battle Hero lands Pinjarra ClassicThe Chris Gangemi-trained Battle Hero (6 g Stratum - Fromm by O'Reilly) won the Pinjarra Classic (Listed, 1300m) at Pinjarra yesterday, his fifth career stakes victory. The six-year-old has been in good form this preparation, winning the Summer Scorcher Handicap (Listed, 1000m) on New Year’s Day, and he showed a good attitude in yesterday’s $120,000 race to beat Red Ora (Due Sasso) by a neck under Jarrad Noske, with Roger The Roman (Holy Roman Emperor) just a short-head further behind in third place.

Winx ready for Chipping Norton return Champion mare Winx (Street Cry) is set to make her delayed autumn return in Saturday’s Chipping Norton Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) at Randwick. The Chris Waller-trained six-year-old, who had a course proper barrier trial against stablemates at Randwick over 1200 metres on 17 February, did not contest the Apollo Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) first up due to the suspension of her regular jockey Hugh Bowman. "The trial has brought her on and she is ready to go in the Chipping Norton,” Waller said. "She's had a very good week since then and we couldn't be happier." Waller will have several runners in the 1600 metres Group One race. "Who Shot Thebarman, Libran, Comin' Through and McCreery are all likely to be there and possibly Endless Drama," he said. "We'll look at the make-up of the field before deciding whether Endless Drama runs or not."

Rimraam to SurroundLast start The Vanity (Gr 3, 1400m) winner Rimraam (Commands) is set to be sent to

Sydney for Saturday’s Surround Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) at Randwick. The Shadwell Australasia-owned filly, who was twice stakes-placed in the spring, was first-up when successful in the Flemington Group Three race and was well supported in the betting, firming from $16 to $7.50. Kerrin McEvoy has been booked to ride Rimraam, while juvenile stablemate Futooh (Sebring) is set to run in the Sweet Embrace Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) on the same day, having not raced since winning at Randwick on 6 January.

Alizee to tackle Group OneAlizee (Sepoy), who is already a winner of the Flight Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m), is also set to contest the Surround Stakes, which is being run at Group One level for the first time on Saturday. The James Cummings-trained Alizee, who is a half-sister to Group One winner Astern (Medaglia D’Oro), resumed with a victory in the Light Fingers Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) on 17 February when ridden by Glyn Schofield. Other likely runners in the Surround Stakes are New Zealand filly Melody Belle (Commands), Frolic (Husson), Unforgotten (Fastnet Rock), Moss Trip (Mossman), Banish (Lonhro), Debonairly (Snitzel), Shumookh (Dream Ahead) and Pandemonium (Sebring).

Setsuna to resumeTalented filly Setsuna (Choisir) will make her return from a spell in the Sweet Embrace Stakes on Saturday. The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained juvenile won the Inglis Banner (RL, 1000m) and the Ottawa Stakes (Gr 3, 1000m) during the Melbourne spring carnival and returns for a shot at the Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) with a start at Randwick. Two-year-old stablemate Santos (I Am Invincible), who won the Pierro Plate (1100m) on 17 February, will also run in the Skyline Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) at Randwick on Saturday. Santos ran third and fourth in two starts during the spring.

Couvre Lit to Sweet EmbraceThe Godolphin-owned Couvre Lit (Bernardini) is also set to run in the Sweet Embrace Stakes after a first-start victory at Warwick Farm on 14 February. The two-year-old filly, who is trained by James Cummings, won a 1200 metre two-year-old maiden after winning and running fifth in a pair of Randwick barrier trials. Jockey Glyn Schofield, who partnered the filly in her debut victory, will remain on board on Saturday.

Legend Of Condor to press onTrainer Gerald Ryan intends to run two-year-old colt Legend Of Condor (Not A Single Doubt) in the Skyline Stakes on Saturday despite being beaten in the Pierro Plate (1100m) last start. The Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice) colt, who will be ridden by Glyn Schofield, ran fourth to Santos and Exceltic (Excelebration) last start when leading early closest to the rail at Randwick on 17 February.

Reith to ride Dixie BlossomsJockey Christian Reith will ride the Ron Quinton-trained Dixie Blossoms (Street Sense) in Saturday’s Guy Walter Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m). The five-year-old mare won a Randwick 1000 metre barrier trial on 12 February when defeating subsequent Oakleigh Plate (Gr 1, 1100m) winner Russian Revolution (Snitzel). Reith will also ride the Clarry Conners-trained Torvill (Not A Single Doubt) in the Surround Stakes and the Brad Widdup-trained Sandbar (Snitzel) in the Skyline Stakes. Sandbar maintained his unbeaten record when taking out the Lonhro Plate (Listed, 1100m) at Warwick Farm on 10 February.

Two for Busuttin and Young in GuineasIn-form Cranbourne trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young are expected to have two runners in Saturday’s Australian Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) at Flemington, Main Stage (Reliable Man) and Salsamor (Tavistock). Placed in the Moonee Valley Vase (Gr 2, 2040m) last spring, Salsamor was runner-up when resuming at Sandown Lakeside on 14 February, while stakes winner Main Stage was fourth first-up in the C S Hayes Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m) on 17 February. "The form around him is fantastic - we were looking

at giving him another graded race, but we've decided to run him in the Australian Guineas," Busuttin told Racing.com of Salsamor. "It fits in well to get up to Sydney." Of Main Stage, Busuttin said: "I thought he was going to run third, he just knocked up that last touch, but he's on target for Saturday at Flemington."

Price trio to contest GuineasCaulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Mighty Boss (Not A Single Doubt) will be one of three runners for trainer Mick Price in Saturday’s Australian Guineas. Mighty Boss, who has been unplaced at weight for age in the C F Orr Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) and Futurity Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) this campaign, is set to be joined by stablemates, C S Hayes Stakes winner Grunt (O’Reilly) and Autumn Classic (Gr 2, 1400m) winner Holy Snow (Fastnet Rock) in the Group One race. Vinland and Bring Me Roses set for GuineasTrainer Tony McEvoy is also set to have multiple runners in the Australian Guineas, a race he won last year with Hey Doc (Duporth). Sebring (More Than Ready) colt Vinland, who finished 11th in the C S Hayes Stakes, and Bring Me Roses (High Chaparral) are set to run in the Group One race. Bring Me Roses, who was runner-up in the VRC Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m) in the spring, returned from a spell with a second placing to Rimraam in the Vanity on 17 February.

Russian Revolution on the improveCo-trainer Paul Snowden believes dual Group One winner Russian Revolution (Snitzel), who took out Saturday’s Oakleigh Plate (Gr 1, 1100m) at Caulfield, is capable of delivering at the top level again if connections choose to continue his racing career. The four-year-old entire is raced by a syndicate that includes Newgate Farm, China Horse Club and Go Bloodstock and could be retired to stud later this year. "We'll have a talk to (Newgate managing director) Henry (Field) early in the week and discuss where we head with him, and what goal is next,” Snowden told RSN927. “The guys involved are highly-regarded stud people, and know what they're doing. I'm hopeful we've got another run in him that's for sure."

Gailo Chop set for Australian CupThe Darren Weir-trained Peter Young Stakes (Gr 2, 1800m) winner Gailo Chop (Deportivo) is set to tackle the Australian Cup (Gr 1, 2000m) at Flemington on Saturday week. The OTI Racing-owned European import, who won the Caulfield Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) in the spring, made it two wins from two starts this campaign with victory at Caulfield on Saturday. Fellow OTI Racing-owned import Lord Fandango (Lord Of England), who is trained by Archie Alexander, is no certainty to run in the Australian Cup after finishing ninth in the Peter Young Stakes.

Blamey for Tosen Stardom Soon-to-be retired entire Tosen Stardom (Deep Impact) is set to have his next start in the Blamey Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) at Flemington after finishing runner-up to stablemate Brave Smash in the Futurity Stakes on Saturday. The Darren Weir-trained Japanese import, who has won twice at Group One level, will stand at Woodside Park Stud in Victoria later this year with the seven-year-old in his last racing campaign. The Blamey Stakes will be run on 17 March. Newmarket likely for Hey Doc

Dual Group One winner Hey Doc will contest the Newmarket Handicap (Gr 1, 1200m) at Flemington next month despite pulling up sore first-up. The Tony McEvoy-trained four-year-old, who won the Manikato Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) in the spring, was found to have strained pectoral muscles when seventh in the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (Gr 1, 1000m) at Flemington. McEvoy said jockey Luke Currie had told him Hey Doc's race was over after 400 metres of the 1000 metres race. "At the 600 (metres) he had no horse. That's not him at all," McEvoy said. "We've given him a bit of bute to settle the inflammation down and Camille, who rides him all the time, says he's great."

Weight relief to help Missrock

Cranbourne trainer Robbie Laing is confident his four-year-old Missrock (Fastnet Rock) can be a legitimate contender in the Newmarket Handicap next week. The mare was third behind brilliant Group One-winning sprinters Redkirk Warrior (Notnowcato) and Redzel (Snitzel) when resuming in the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes. "Missrock drops to 52 kilos, they tell me, for the Newmarket," Laing said. "She came through the race terrific. Last week all she did was go down the beach and have a bit of a splash around. She's jumping out of her skin. It's great to be able to give her a week of doing nothing."

Chautauqua entered for Randwick trialBrilliant sprinter Chautauqua (Encosta De Lago), who was not accepted with for Saturday’s Oakleigh Plate in Melbourne, is set to barrier trial at Randwick today. The Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes-trained seven-year-old, who is being aimed at a fourth straight T J Smith Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) victory this preparation, is entered for heat three over 1050 metres. He is up against MVRC Champagne Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) winner Houtzen (I Am Invincible), dual Group Three winner Pariah (Redoute’s Choice) and Group Two winners Happy Clapper (Teofilo) and Viridine (Poet’s Voice). Chautauqua ran third in a Warwick Farm barrier trial over 802 metres on 15 February. Click here to view today’s Randwick barrier trial acceptances.

Stewards to study text message evidenceStewards will study the evidence in the bicarb case which has rocked Victorian racing before

deciding whether any parties have a case to answer in New South Wales. Racing NSW chief steward Marc Van Gestel said they had received the brief of evidence from Racing Victoria and would study it over the next few days. "We will review the evidence and establish if we will open an investigation to any races in NSW," Van Gestel said. Over the past few days, News Corp has published a series of text messages reported to be between some of the eight parties, including multiple Group One-winning trainer Robert Smerdon, charged over race day treatments involving alkalising agents, commonly known as bicarb. Among the reported texts is one referring to the Smerdon-trained Mosheen (Fastnet Rock) before she won the 2012 Vinery Stud Stakes (registered as Storm Queen Stakes) (Gr 1, 2000m) at Rosehill. Barrier trial debate continuesRacing Queensland (RQ) is still keen to introduce mandatory trials for first starters but not before it can address issues raised by trainers. Mandatory trials for first starters has been an issue in Queensland for many years and while punters are in favour, problems have been raised by trainers, owners and race clubs. RQ met with representatives from the Queensland branch of the Australian Trainers Association to discuss the issue last week. QATA secretary Cameron Partington said trainers were strongly against the plan at least until the concerns were fixed. He said for the plan to work, trials needed to be at least every two weeks, even weekly, at some venues. "Clashing of trials should be eliminated even if it means trials are moved away from the traditional Tuesdays to perhaps Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays," Partington said.

Last race at Mudgee abandonedHeavy rain forced the abandonment of the eighth and final race of yesterday's meeting at Mudgee. The earlier Country Championships Qualifier (1400m) was run despite the challenging conditions but the surface was ultimately deemed unsafe for racing prior to the finale.

Overshare correctionIn yesterday’s ANZ Bloodstock News, the Spendthrift Australia-raced colt Overshare (I Am Invincible) was incorrectly referred to as

a gelding. The Team Hawkes-trained three-year-old colt took out the Zeditave Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday, his second victory at stakes level.

New Zealand

Wait A Sec claims Wairoa CupThe Guy Lowry and Grant Cullen-trained Wait A Sec (Postponed) successfully carried top weight of 61 kilograms to win the Wairoa Cup (2100m) at Wairoa yesterday. The Group One-winning seven-year-old was eighth in the Herbie Dyke Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) at his previous start and was conceding upwards of seven kilograms to his 11 rivals in the NZ$30,000 race. His class shone through in the closing stages though as he wore down stablemate Saint Kitt (Keeper) by a nose, with Tommyra (Raise The Flag) back in third place.

Excalibur on target for Auckland CupThe Shaune Ritchie-trained Excalibur (Tavistock) is on target for a tilt at the Auckland Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) after running out a convincing winner over 2100 metres at Hastings on Saturday. The four-year-old is yet to race over further than 2400 metres, but his trainer believes he will see out the 3200 metre trip. “If he was going to justify his spot in the Auckland Cup he had to win and win well,” said Ritchie. “He will go straight into the Auckland Cup now as it’s only two weeks away. He is out of a Stravinsky mare who is out of a Zabeel mare so there is plenty of staying blood to suggest he will get the two miles of the Cup.”

Stakes goal for Honneur NoirHonneur Noir (Falkirk) made all the running to score an impressive success over 1400 metres at Matamata on Saturday, and her trainer Peter Lock said the filly will be aimed at stakes races when she returns from a short break. “She has done plenty of late, so she will now have a short break,” Lock said. “She will definitely handle some cut in the ground and we’d like to tackle some of the fillies and mares’ races that are coming up in a few months. The aim will be to get her some black-type which I think she is well capable of.”

Win Bright lands Nakayama Kinen

The high-class Win Bright (4 c Stay Gold - Summer Eternity by Admire Cozzene) won the Nakayama Kinen (Gr 2, 1800m) at Nakayama in Japan yesterday. The colt, who won the Nakayama Sho Spring Stakes (Gr 2, 1800m) last season, displayed a good attitude under Masami Matsuoka to beat Aerolithe (Kurofune)

PLUCKThe new More Than Ready

Analysis: Scott Brunton-trained mare Life On The Wire is now unbeaten in five starts this preparation. She was quickly away from her good barrier (2) and went straight to the front. She then travelled well at a reasonable tempo, picked up the pace from the 600m, got a break on turning for home and went on to score impressively. Step The Pedal, a stablemate of the winner, raced near the tail of the field, improved between runners nearing the home turn, got a split at the 200m and ran on nicely to take second. Gee Gees Top Notch raced in sixth place, between runners, got a split at the home turn, was in a challenging position at the 200m and battled on well for third.

RESULTS AUSTRALIA’S #1SOURCE OF STAKES WINNERS

| 16 |

Analysis: Darren Weir-trained filly Pleasuring followed her recent win at Hobart in the Strutt Stakes (Listed, 2100m) with another impressive stakes success here. She was given a good trip by Damian Lane in fifth place on the rails, behind a steady pace. She improved behind runners at the 600m as the tempo picked up, got a split on straightening, hit the front at the 100m and went on to score comfortably. Gone Girl settled near the tail of the field, improved (wide with cover) from the 700m, challenged at the 100m and then fought on very well for a really good second. The Danny O’Brien-trained Berkshire Lady was midfield, between runners, took a while to wind up when taken deeper on straightening and then came with a late run to grab third. Pateena Arena was outside the leader (Heaven’s Delight), went to the front nearing the home turn and held on for (1.9 lengths) fourth while the winner’s stablemate Maheera raced in about eighth place, made an early move at the 800m and was deep from that point as the pace increased. She challenged (wide out) at the 600m before holding on for (2.1 lengths) fifth.

Then followed: Pakistan Star (GER), Gold Mount (GB), Eagle Way (AUS), Dinozzo (IRE), Secret Weapon (GB) & Helene Charisma (FR), last.

Analysis: The Tony Cruz-trained Time Warp secured his second Group One victory in Hong Kong in a track record time. The five-year-old gelding moved across to lead shortly after the start from barrier seven and set a good tempo under jockey Zac Purton. He increased the pace approaching the home turn and kept on bravely to fend off the runner-up Werther, who was found to have bled post-race. Seasons Bloom was briefly outpaced at the top of the straight but ran on well inside the final 200m to take third. Pakistan Star was forced to switch off the rail to gain a clear run and kept on nicely for fourth place.

Analysis: New Zealand-bred Beauty Generation ran out a tenacious winner here under Zac Purton. The John Moore-trained gelding raced in second place early and moved into a clear lead approaching the final 300m. He was briefly headed inside the final 150m but fought back for a brave win. Beat The Clock hit the front in the closing stages and performed with a great deal of credit despite going down narrowly in second having been brought with a steady run on the inside. Fifty Fifty was well positioned and ran on strongly in the closing stages for third. Giant Treasure was short of room at the 300m but ran on well for fourth. Beauty Only looked unlucky in a fast-finishing fifth having made his challenge wide from off the pace.

G PO

ST SPOTLIGHT

Midnight Rattler Got up in last stride to score over C&D last month, his second

win this season; not in same form on latest outing but Matthew Poon’s very

valuable 10lb claim makes him of interest today.

Consort Won a Listed race in Britain in 2015 but has been unplaced all seven Hong

Kong starts, the latest when last of 14 over C&D in September; makes debut for

new stable today.

All You Wish Currently 4lb lower than when ending last season with C&D win;

launched new campaign with two respectable efforts in September/October but

has looked out of form since then.

My Darling Predictably found Hong Kong Derby too hot two starts ago but his third

over C&D in this grade three weeks ago was a good effort, particularly as he was

denied a clear run in home straight; likely contender.

Clever Beaver Four-time sprint winner who has often shaped as though today’s

step up in trip might suit; comfortably held on both starts this year, though, and

needs to up his game.

Super Chic Won 1m3f Group 2 in Italy a year ago but has struggled on all three

Hong Kong starts (1m-1m2f); ought to find this easier than last two assignments

but drop back to 7f probably not ideal.

Hang’s Decision Has won twice over 6f this season and made good progress from

off the pace to finish second from wide stall in similar race to this over C&D when

last in action three weeks ago; could be the answer.

Healthy Joyful Slightly disappointing when midfield here on latest outing five

weeks ago but has generally remained in good form since C&D win in October;

probably won’t be far away.

Baba Mama Gave decent account when sixth over C&D three weeks ago but has

basically looked a shade too high in the weights since winning two lower-grade

events here in early part of the season.

Bullish Smart Six wins in Hong Kong, the latest over 1m at Happy Valley; has

posted two very respectable efforts over C&D since upped to Class 2 company

but others look better handicapped.

Star Majestic Will probably be better suited by today’s return to turf after moderate

run on dirt last month but has done all his winning at around 1m, and he’s

seemingly better suited by even further than that nowadays.

VERDICT This might go to HANG’S DECISION, who has made good

progress this season and did well to claim second from a wide

stall over C&D on his latest outing. My Darling was short of room at a crucial stage

before finishing third (just behind the selection) last time and, with Joao Moreira

booked, is sure to be a popular choice. Matthew Poon’s 10lb claim gives topweight

Midnight Rattler some wiggle room.

Werther Hong Kong Horse of the Year in 2016 and running well this season; landed

the Citi Hong Kong Gold Cup in February after meeting trouble in running, ran

third to Neorealism in the QEII Cup on his latest start and has chances of

regaining the winning thread here.

Blazing Speed Ended last season winning this race by a short-head; yet to strike

after eight starts this campaign but went close in the Gold Cup when just losing

out to Werther in February and has claims now back over his ideal trip.

Designs On Rome Won the Sha Tin Trophy over 1m on seasonal return in October

but not so good on his next six runs; finished last in the QEII Cup on his latest

start and he needs to find more to turn that form around.

Eagle Way Seems progressive and made another step in the right direction when

landing the Queen Mother Memorial Cup over C&D in April; takes another step up

in class but he’s improving and not without a shout.

Basic Trilogy No joy in 13 starts this season and latest efforts were poor; finished

out the back in the Queen Mother Memorial Cup on his last start and looks out of

his depth.

Helene Charisma Seven starts in Hong Kong and best effort was his latest, when

runner-up to Eagle Way in the Queen Mother Memorial Cup; needs to build on that

effort to overturn the form with the winner.

Gold Mount Had just three starts in Hong Kong and after a winning debut he

finished third behind Eagle Way and Helene Charisma on his latest outing; more is

needed to turn that form around.

VERDICT Eagle Way, who won the Group 1 Queensland Derby when

trained in Australia, is improving with each run in Hong Kong and

deserves to take his place in this line-up but he may have to play second fiddle on

this occasion to the talented WERTHER. He failed only by a short-head in this race

last year after winning the QEII Cup and Hong Kong Derby, and has continued his

fine run of form this campaign. Blazing Speed who won this last season should

again give a good account.

POST SPOTLIGHT

Brilliant Dream His three C&D successes have come at a 25% strike rate; drops to

this level for the first time in 18 months; Class 4 record is one win and two

seconds from four attempts; returns to best trip from an excellent mark (plus his

rider’s 10lb claim); serious player.

Relentless Me Came from off the pace to record a cosy 6f win here (on debut);

Moreira is back on again and, even with a 6lb rise and from stall 14, improvement

for his debut experience and the extra furlong is expected; serious candidate.

Silly Buddies All five career wins have come at 6f but good second over C&D last

time (only third attempt at it); on a run of 14 defeats since scoring here 18 months

ago (from a 23lb higher mark).

Such A Happiness Lightly raced and improving; finished with a flourish to fill

fourth behind Metallic Storm over this C&D (a neck behind C P Power, same

terms); better to come and on the shortlist.

Ambitious Heart Boasts a 100% record from five attempts (including one win) of

finishing in the first four over this C&D; upped 5lb for cosy win last time and the

runner-up has won since; place hopes at least.

C P Power Consistent but yet to win in 14 career starts; keeps edging up the

weights for placed efforts; likely to find a few too good.

Good For You C&D winner and ran well over it last time (third to Ambitious Heart);

yet to win out of Class 5; race could unfold with him stuck on the rail towards rear.

Noble de Love Inched home over C&D two starts ago; ran well enough from

revised mark last time but has gone up again.

Compassion Star There have been signs of ability in all three starts (5f/6f); on his

best mark yet and likely to show a bit more over this longer trip.

Autopay Should handle new trip after hinting at ability in sprints (5f/6f); likely to be

coming from behind given his poor draw; there are races to be won with him but

he’s still learning.

Regency Baby Goes well over C&D; likely leader; returning from a seven-month

break last time and improvement expected; there are better weighted horses,

though.Bossiee Dual C&D winner; has won in the grade but most recent success came in

Class 5; ran well from this 8lb higher mark last time (from which he is closely

weighted with runner-up Silly Buddies).

Team Sweet On losing run of 22; still only 5lb lower than his one win (C&D in

January 2016); he is likely to be last and on the rail when the race develops.

Real Deal First-time blinkers helped him show a little more last time (C&D); has a

good draw and should track the pace; better to come and not discounted.

Fine With Me Mostly disappointing over this trip (one win came in a 6f race); 6lb

rise for last win hasn’t done him any favours.

Formula Galore Unplaced all three starts over C&D; both career wins have been at

Happy Valley (6f/8.25f); 6lb higher than last winning mark.

VERDICT An open-looking contest with many of the brightest hopes drawn

out wide. Relentless Me, drawn widest of all, has the right man

on board, created a really good impression when making a winning debut and is

destined to succeed in better company than this. However, BRILLIANT DREAM

could prove a little too streetwise for him. He’s been performing with credit in a

higher grade than this and is a triple C&D winner with a very good record when

dipping his toe into Class 4. Matthew Poon’s 10lb claim is simply a bonus.

Ambitious Heart won nicely last time and the runner-up has gone in since.

RACING POST SPOTLIGHT

Midnight Rattler Got up in last stride to score over C&D last month, his second

win this season; not in same form on latest outing but Matthew Poon’s very

valuable 10lb claim makes him of interest today.

Consort Won a Listed race in Britain in 2015 but has been unplaced all seven Hong

Kong starts, the latest when last of 14 over C&D in September; makes debut for

new stable today.

All You Wish Currently 4lb lower than when ending last season with C&D win;

launched new campaign with two respectable efforts in September/October but

has looked out of form since then.

Healthy Joyful Slightly disappointing when midfield here on latest outing five

weeks ago but has generally remained in good form since C&D win in October;

probably won’t be far away.

Midnight Rattler some wiggle room.

though.Bossiee Dual C&D winner; has won in the grade but most recent success came in

BETTING FORECAST: 7-4iMy Darling, 7-2iHang’s Decision, 6iMidnight Rattler,

8iHealthy Joyful, 10iBaba Mama, 14iBullish Smart, 16iClever Beaver, 20iAll You

Wish, Consort, Star Majestic, 33iSuper Chic.RACING POST SPOTLIGHT

Midnight Rattler Got up in last stride to score over C&D last month, his second

win this season; not in same form on latest outing but Matthew Poon’s very

valuable 10lb claim makes him of interest today.

Consort Won a Listed race in Britain in 2015 but has been unplaced all seven Hong

Kong starts, the latest when last of 14 over C&D in September; makes debut for

new stable today.All You Wish Currently 4lb lower than when ending last season with C&D win;

launched new campaign with two respectable efforts in September/October but

has looked out of form since then.

My Darling Predictably found Hong Kong Derby too hot two starts ago but his third

over C&D in this grade three weeks ago was a good effort, particularly as he was

denied a clear run in home straight; likely contender.

Clever Beaver Four-time sprint winner who has often shaped as though today’s

step up in trip might suit; comfortably held on both starts this year, though, and

needs to up his game.Super Chic Won 1m3f Group 2 in Italy a year ago but has struggled on all three

Healthy Joyful Slightly disappointing when midfield here on latest outing five

weeks ago but has generally remained in good form since C&D win in October;

probably won’t be far away.Baba Mama Gave decent account when sixth over C&D three weeks ago but has

basically looked a shade too high in the weights since winning two lower-grade

events here in early part of the season.

BETTING FORECAST: 5-4iWerther, 2iEagle Way, 11-2iBlazing Speed, 9iHelene

Charisma, 14iGold Mount, 16iDesigns On Rome, 20iBasic Trilogy.

RACING POST SPOTLIGHTWerther Hong Kong Horse of the Year in 2016 and running well this season; landed

the Citi Hong Kong Gold Cup in February after meeting trouble in running, ran

third to Neorealism in the QEII Cup on his latest start and has chances of

regaining the winning thread here.

Basic Trilogy No joy in 13 starts this season and latest efforts were poor; finished

out the back in the Queen Mother Memorial Cup on his last start and looks out of

his depth.Helene Charisma Seven starts in Hong Kong and best effort was his latest, when

runner-up to Eagle Way in the Queen Mother Memorial Cup; needs to build on that

effort to overturn the form with the winner.

Gold Mount Had just three starts in Hong Kong and after a winning debut he

finished third behind Eagle Way and Helene Charisma on his latest outing; more is

needed to turn that form around.VERDICT Eagle Way, who won the Group 1 Queensland Derby when

trained in Australia, is improving with each run in Hong Kong and

deserves to take his place in this line-up but he may have to play second fiddle on

this occasion to the talented WERTHER. He failed only by a short-head in this race

last year after winning the QEII Cup and Hong Kong Derby, and has continued his

fine run of form this campaign. Blazing Speed who won this last season should

again give a good account.

Brilliant Dream His three C&D successes have come at a 25% strike rate; drops to

this level for the first time in 18 months; Class 4 record is one win and two

seconds from four attempts; returns to best trip from an excellent mark (plus his

rider’s 10lb claim); serious player.

Relentless Me Came from off the pace to record a cosy 6f win here (on debut);

Good For You C&D winner and ran well over it last time (third to Ambitious Heart);

yet to win out of Class 5; race could unfold with him stuck on the rail towards rear.

Noble de Love Inched home over C&D two starts ago; ran well enough from

revised mark last time but has gone up again.

Compassion Star There have been signs of ability in all three starts (5f/6f); on his

best mark yet and likely to show a bit more over this longer trip.

Autopay Should handle new trip after hinting at ability in sprints (5f/6f); likely to be

coming from behind given his poor draw; there are races to be won with him but

he’s still learning.Regency Baby Goes well over C&D; likely leader; returning from a seven-month

break last time and improvement expected; there are better weighted horses,

though.Bossiee Dual C&D winner; has won in the grade but most recent success came in
