LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Lori Rankin, PTA President

I can hardly believe that the school year is now halfway over. On the heels of the prediction of an early spring, summer will be here before you know if. A huge thank you to Tracy Pustover, Janet Burke and Melissa Gyergyo for their efforts on this year’s Variety Show. From the initial participant meeting, to the show itself, these ladies kept things running like a well-oiled machine. The entire show this year was student run. We had student MCs, stage crew, lighting, video and DVD production. We have a wide range of talent amongst our student body. Congratulations to all of the participants. Great job!! Thank you to Carla Vidmar for the program and to Michelle Giacomino for hosting the cookie recep-tion. On February 15, the PTA has sponsored the Pittsburgh CLO bringing their “We the People Assembly” to Donaldson. It is a history musical and should be a great time for the students and staff. Coming up at the end of February is our annual Donaldson Discovers clas-ses. The purpose of the classes is to offer an after-school enrichment opportunity for all students. Volunteers are needed to ensure the program runs smooth-ly. You must have your CLEARANCES. Sarris’ forms have been distributed. This is a great opportunity to help our school with needed funding for these programs.

Art fair

Market day Thank you everyone for another great month of Market Day!! We are raising the bar in profit this school year. We couldn't do it without your continued support. Next order due: Wednesday, March 20 & pickup is Tuesday, March 26 @ 5pm

This year's Art Fair will be held on Thursday April 4, 2013. The times are from 6pm - 8pm. Our theme will be "Celebrate the Heart of America and Donaldson's 10year anniversary". There will be many craft tables with patriotic crafts. A few examples are: visors, glasses, bracelets, necklaces, magnets and much more. We will also be making postcards for our troops over seas. This event is free of charge. Come out and enjoy an exciting night of crafting. If you would like to volunteer for this event you must have your clearanc-es. You can contact me at [email protected] to volun-teer.

I want to take this opportunity to recognize Vicki Danzik's accomplishments being the Donaldson Elementary Market Day chairperson for the past several years. Because of her leadership, she has helped fund student and teacher events with the profit made from the monthly grocery program. As an example, she and the PTA sponsored the school's Spring pie sale last year. Vicki created a friendly com-petition between the classrooms - with the class who sold the most pies/desserts won an ice cream party. The enthusiasm was felt throughout the entire school. Be-cause of its success, beginning today, we are promoting the 2nd annual Spring pie sale with delicious pies from Market Day. With Vicki's creative and innovative ideas, the Market Day program has increased in sales each year for the past 4 years, which has resulted in more PTA-sponsored activities. Thank you, Vicki, for giving of your time and being so committed to making the Market Day program at Donaldson such a success!! Gerrie Saunders-Farrell
