In the fillies’ division, Lindsay Park will run first start Geelong maiden winner Angel (Fastnet Rock), who was a $1,200,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase last year, from barrier three with Mark Zahra in the saddle.

Zahra also rode the filly at Geelong on 4 January when scoring by one and three quarter lengths.

Ben Hayes told ANZ Bloodstock News that Angel ($13), who is a half-sister to 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Miracles Of Life (Not A Single Doubt), had improved since her maiden victory.

“She has done a couple of nice pieces of work back at home and I really think she will be a good chance of winning,” Hayes said.

“She is lightly raced going into the Prelude and she has nice improvement coming out of this run.”

Another daughter of Fastnet Rock (Danehill) to run in the fillies’ race for Lindsay Park is the Jonathan Munz-bred and owned Downloads (Fastnet Rock) ($8), who came from last in the Blue Diamond Preview (F) (Gr 3, 1000m) at her first start to run fourth.

Lindsay Park won last year’s Blue Diamond Stakes with Fastnet Rock filly Catchy, while stablemate Formality (Fastnet Rock) was third in the same race.

“Her first run was fantastic as she went early and wide to make up ground,” he said.

“She did the most work (in the race) and she ran the second fastest last 600 metres in the race behind Oohood who (Tony) McEvoy has a good opinion of. She will enjoy the extra 100 metres (on Saturday) and the further, the better for her.”

The third of the Lindsay Park-trained fillies in the Blue Diamond Prelude is the Shadwell Stud-owned Enbihaar ($13) was sent to Adelaide on 20 January for her first start, with the daughter of Magnus (Flying Spur) winning by half a length over 1000 metres,

She has since returned to Lindsay Park’s Flemington base and will press her Blue Diamond Stakes claims in Saturday’s Prelude with Stephen Baster riding her from barrier five.

“She is a really nice horse and looks to have trained on since her last start win in Adelaide and we are really happy with her,” Hayes said.

“She has drawn well and and I think she will run really well as she has shown above average ability at home.”

Another Lindsay Park-trained two-year-old, the filly Qafila (Not A Single Doubt), was nominated for the Blue Diamond Prelude (F) but was not among the acceptances yesterday.

Hayes said the filly, who won the Debutant Stakes (Listed, 1000m) and was fourth in the Ottawa Stakes (Gr 3, 1000m) last preparation, would contest the Blue Diamond Stakes first up. Continued on page 4>>

Qafila ran third in a Geelong barrier trial over 1000 metres on 29 January and will have a hit out at Flemington tomorrow morning.

“She will trial this week and we will look to run her first up in the Diamond,” Hayes said.

“We want her to be able to train on for the nice Sydney races.”

In the colts and geldings Blue Diamond Prelude, speedy juvenile Ben Hercules (I Am Invincible) ($26) will attempt to qualify for the 24 February ‘grand final’ at Caulfield.

The son of I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) led at Ballarat when beaten narrowly over 1100 metres by Messerschmitt (All Too Hard), who subsequently ran fifth in last Saturday’s Inglis Premier (RL, 1200m) at Caulfield.

“He was very green (at Ballarat) and didn’t quite know what to do, but he was very tough as well,” Hayes said.

“He is similar to the others. He has been working well at home and looks to have come on.”

Meanwhile, fellow Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G) runner Seberate (Sebring) ($26) is no certainty to push on to the Group One juvenile race even if he wins on Saturday.

A last start winner of a two-year-old maiden over 1200 metres, Seberate could be saved for the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) at Flemington on 10 March.

“We are very happy with the way Seberate is going. He is back in distance 100 metres, but he does look like he has improvement,” he said.

Thursday 8 February 2018 | 6 |Five Lindsay Park juveniles trying to gain Blue Diamond starts

Continued on page 6>>

<< Continued from page 4 “We have the question of whether to push on to the Diamond with him or look for something else. He could be a Sires’ horse.”

Lindsay Park already has unbeaten colt Long Leaf (Fastnet Rock) set for the Blue Diamond Stakes, who took his record to three wins in the Blue Diamond Preview (C&G) (Listed, 1000m) at Caulfield on 27 January.

Tulip to run in Kevin HayesAnother Lindsay Park-trained horse, the Group One-placed three-

year-old Tulip (Pierro), will make her return in the Kevin Hayes Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday, with Hayes non-committal about the autumn plans for the filly.

“She looks like she has come back bigger and stronger. All her work suggests she has come back as well (as previous campaigns), if not better,” Hayes said.

“She trialled down the straight at Flemington last week and ran the quickest time and there was some high-class horses trialling that day.

“We are expecting her to be a top-three chance (on Saturday). She has a very good record in Sydney, but it depends on how she runs on Saturday.

“We don’t have a plan mapped out for her, so we will watch her run and and then make a decision on whether to go to Sydney or stay in Melbourne.”

Lindsay Park will also have last start Australia Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m)

winner Thronum (Snitzel) in the C F Orr Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m), with Zahra maintaining the ride on the four-year-old entire who has won two of his three starts since joining the stable.

“It was a good win in the Group Two at Moonee Valley and while the 1400 metres is a question mark he deserves his chance in a Group One,” he said.

“He has shown he has the ability of a Group One horse and we just hope they don’t go too quickly early because there is a bit more speed in the race (than in the Australia Stakes).”

Two for ZoustarFirst season sire Zoustar (Northern Meteor) was provided with his second winner yesterday courtesy of the Chris Waller-trained debutant Zousain’s (2 c ex Pasar Silbano by Elnadim) victory in a maiden plate over 1000 metres at Randwick. The two-year-old colt, who was purchased by David Redvers and Mulcaster Bloodstock for $400,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from Edinglassie Stud, defeated the Godolphin-raced Pindus (Exceed And Excel) by a head with Hiemal (Exceed And Excel) another half a length away in third. Zoustar stands on a year-by-year basis at Widden Stud in the Hunter Valley and

at Woodside Park Stud in Victoria, and he has six lots catalogued at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale which gets underway on Saturday.

Zousain backs up Waller’s confidenceTrainer Chris Waller’s confidence in Zousain and that of his sire Zoustar, who he prepared to win the Golden Rose Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) and Coolmore Stud Stakes (registered as Ascot Vale Stakes) (Gr 1, 1200m), was justified with the colt’s first start victory yesterday. “He is a very well bred colt and I’m pretty proud that he is by Zoustar. I won’t say I feel like his grandfather but I feel like his father,” Waller said. “We’re very proud of what Zoustar is doing and this is a horse we like a lot. He’s got plenty of attributes of his father. If you could

@anz_news

compare them in photos you could see a lot of Zoustar in him.” Three for Fighting SunThe David Brideoake-trained Naduri (2 f ex Cardannic by Bel Esprit) ran out a ready winner on debut in the Kings Catering SV 2YO Maiden Plate (1200m) at Warrnambool yesterday and in the process provided the Sun Stud-based first season sire Fighting Sun (Northern Meteor) with his third winner. The two-year-old stayed on well to beat Daily At Dawn (Dawn Approach) by a length and a quarter with another two lengths back to Soaring Eagle (Unencumbered) in third. Fighting Sun has four lots catalogued at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale at the Riverside Stables complex at Warwick Farm.

Weir will also start Japanese imports Brave Smash (Tosen Phantom) (John Allen) and Tosen Stardom (Deep Impact) (Damian Lane) in the race. Trained by Andrew Noblet, Silent Sedition has drawn barrier one in the field of 12 with Craig Williams taking the ride. Stakes winners Flying Jess (Hinchinbrook) and Flippant (Hinchinbrook) will also resume in the Group Three race on Saturday.

Eight for RubitonA field of eight have accepted for the Rubiton Stakes (Gr 2, 1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday, with the runners headed by the Aaron Purcell-trained Merchant Navy (Fastnet Rock), who will be resuming after his last start victory in the Coolmore Stud Stakes (registered as Ascot Vale Stakes) (Gr 1, 1200m) in November. The son of Fastnet Rock (Danehill), who has drawn barrier six for jockey Mark Zahra, will line up alongside

the Mick Price-trained Ardrossan (Redoute’s Choice) and the Udyta Clarke-trained Rich Charm (Danerich), who have drawn barriers one and eight respectively. Last year’s winner Super Cash (Written Tycoon) will race from barrier two with Craig Williams booked to take the ride.

Shoals to return in Kevin Hayes

A field of ten looks set to contest the Kevin Hayes Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday with talented filly Shoals (Fastnet Rock) among the acceptances for the Group Three. The Anthony Freedman-trained three-year-old took out the Myer Classic (registered as Empire Rose Stakes) (Gr 1, 1600m) last preparation and will look to add another big race to her CV from barrier two with Mark Zahra booked to take the ride. The Lindsay Park-trained Group Three winner Tulip (Pierro) has drawn barrier three with Kerrin McEvoy set to take

the ride. Meanwhile, co-trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra will be doubly represented in the race with Booker (Written Tycoon) (barrier six) and Smart Coupe (Smart Missile) also among the acceptances.

14 for the Autumn StakesThe Aaron Purcell-trained Villermont (All Too Hard) will resume in the Autumn Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday having not been seen since his fine victory in the Sandown Guineas (Gr 2, 1600m) in November. The three-year-old, who has drawn barrier eight, looks set to clash with 13 rivals in the $200,000 race, including Group Three winners Levendi (Pierro) and Astoria (Medaglia d’Oro), who have been drawn in barriers nine and seven respectively.

Oliver looks forward to Levendi rideDamien Oliver is looking forward to partnering Group Three winner Levendi (Pierro) this autumn. The Peter Gelagotis-trained colt took out the VRC Carbine Club Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m) in the spring

and will resume in Saturday’s Autumn Stakes at Caulfield before a tilt at the Australian Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m). "Levendi I think is one who has got his best ahead of him, so I'm hoping he can really stand up," Oliver said. "He's a promising horse. He hasn't reached his full potential yet so I think there's nice room for improvement there."

Satin Slipper headline act in Lonhro PlateGimcrack Stakes (Listed, 1000m) winner Satin Slipper (Pierro) will put her Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) credentials on the line in Saturday’s Lonhro Plate (Listed, 1100m) at Warwick Farm. Co-trainer Peter Snowden says the filly has the scope to get over further than 1200 metres and is already considering the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) and ATC Champagne Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) for the daughter of Pierro (Lonhro). “She trialled great the other day, she's a nice filly,’’ Snowden said. “She's going to get further, I'm convinced of that. What she does on Saturday will tell us whether we look at a Golden Slipper preparation or more towards the Sires' and Champagne.’’

She Will Reign opens odds-on favouriteDual Group One-winning filly She Will Reign (Manhattan Rain) has been installed as the $1.70 favourite for Saturday’s $250,000 Inglis Sprint (1100m) at Warwick Farm. The Gary Portelli-trained She Will Reign, who will be ridden by Ben Melham, drew barrier one in a field of seven for her return to racing. The three-year-old, who has not raced since finishing unplaced in The Everest (1200m) on 14 October at Randwick, is favourite ahead of the Melbourne-trained sprinter Nature Strip (Nicconi), who is second favourite at $2.60.

Two for Snowden in Eskimo StakesCo-trainers Peter and Paul Snowden will launch a two-pronged attack on the Eskimo Prince Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Warwick Farm on Saturday with the partnership accepting for the race with Group Three-placegetter Assimilate (Sebring) (2) and Brave Song (Your Song) (7), who will be

having his first run in stakes company and looking to secure a hat-trick. Meanwhile the Bjorn Baker-trained Goodfella (Snitzel) and the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Siege Of Quebec (Fastnet Rock), who have drawn barriers eight and six respectively, also featured among the eight acceptances for the $150,000 race.

Nine in Breeders’ ClassicA total of nine mares have been declared for the Breeders’ Classic (Gr 2, 1200m) at Warwick Farm on Saturday, with local trainer Bjorn Baker set to be represented by Egyptian Symbol (Stratum) and Bonny O’Reilly (O’Reilly). City test for Plumaro Dominant first start winner Plumaro (Spirit Of Boom), who won a two-year-old maiden over 1100 metres by nine and a quarter lengths at Toowoomba, will attempt to maintain her unbeaten record when she runs at Doomben on Saturday. Trained at Toowoomba by Kevin Kemp, the daughter of first crop stallion Spirit Of Boom (Sequalo) was well supported in the betting before going on to trounce her rivals on 28 January. Two for Weir in Tasmanian DerbyDarren Weir will be double-handed in tomorrow’s Tasmanian Derby (Listed, 2200m) at Hobart. The lightly-raced Kugelblitz (Savabeel) will race from barrier six in the $150,000 race, while Tasmanian Guineas (Listed, 1600m) winner Overplay (Written Tycoon) will race from barrier four.

Life On The Wire shoots for five straightThe Scott Brunton-trained Life On The Wire (Pluck) will bid to secure a fifth straight victory when lining up in the Bow Mistress Trophy (Gr 3, 1200m) at Hobart tomorrow. The four-year-old mare recently completed a double at Sandown Hillside and will race from barrier ten in the $150,000 feature. The in-form Gee Gee Double Dee (Wordsmith) and Galeocerdo (Sharkbite) are also set for the Group Three sprint. Click here to view tomorrow’s Hobart acceptances.

Bravo Tango ruled out of GuineasPromising colt Bravo Tango (Congrats) is set to bypass the Australian Guineas at Flemington on 3 March. Trainer Mitch Freedman revealed the stakes-placed three-year-old had pulled up sore following his eighth place finish in the Manfred Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday. “Bravo Tango will be freshened up after pulling up shin sore Saturday. Aus Guineas campaign over. @Racing @RVStewards #classispermanent,” Freedman said on Twitter.

Hobartville next for Ace HighTrainer David Payne has confirmed that Ace High (High Chaparral) will run in the Hobartville Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) at Rosehill next up on 24 February. The dual Group One-winning three-year-old made an encouraging return to action in the Expressway Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday and he has reportedly pulled up well following that run. The VRC Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) winner is likely to have his autumn campaign geared towards a tilt at the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) at Randwick in April.

C S Hayes kick off for SullyCo-trainer Trent Busuttin has earmarked the C S Hayes Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m) at Flemington on Saturday week as a starting point for Group One-placed three-year-old Sully (Reliable Man). The gelding, who ran fifth in a 990 metre Cranbourne barrier trial on Monday, chased home Ace High when second in the VRC Derby at Flemington in November at his last start, and he will kick off his autumn preparation in the 1400 metre Group Three on 17 February.

Jump out for Kentucky BreezeThe unbeaten, Levi Kavanagh-trained three-year-old Kentucky Breeze (Pierro) will take part in a Flemington jump out on Friday ahead of his return to the track. The gelding preserved his perfect record when landing the Emirates Airline Handicap (registered as VRC Springtime

Stakes) (Listed, 1400m) in November, and Flemington-based Kavanagh said the horse could return to competitive action in the C S Hayes Stakes at his local track on Saturday week.

Century of Sydney winners for WallerChris Waller completed the fastest 100 Sydney metropolitan winners in a season when saddling a double at Randwick yesterday. The two-year-old Zoustar (Northern Meteor) colt Zousain won the TAB.com.au Plate (1000m) before three-year-old colt Tangmere (Frankel) won the #Theraces Handicap (1400m) to bring up the milestone. “It is obviously a privilege to be trained these types of horses. It was good to see him get the job done and obviously a bright future and he will certainly stay,” said Waller following Tangmere’s victory.

Winx among Dubai entriesChampion mare Winx (Street Cry) has been entered for the Dubai Turf (Gr 1, 1800m) at Meydan on 31 March, though a tilt at the US$6,000,000 race in Dubai is unlikely. The three-time Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) winner is set to reappear next month in the George Main Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m), and a decision on a potential overseas campaign is likely to be considered later this preparation. Click here to view the full list of nominations for the feature races on Dubai World Cup night.

Shinn misses Apollo Stakes day Blake Shinn will miss the Apollo Stakes day at Randwick after being suspended for careless riding. Shinn pleaded not guilty before Racing NSW stewards at Randwick yesterday, after being charged in relation to his ride on Ruthless Agent (Bullbars) at Canterbury last Friday night. He was found guilty and suspended for seven meetings after allowing Ruthless Agent to shift out on Reach For Heaven (Savabeel).

Laming accused of treating horse on race dayTrainer Richard Laming faces a stewards' inquiry over the alleged raceday treatment of Patient (Commands), who was a late scratching at Sandown Lakeside yesterday. Racing Victoria stewards scratched the mare from Wednesday's Ladbrokes Handicap (1200m) following a report from its compliance assurance team. The steward in charge of the meeting, Rob Montgomery, said after a routine stable inspection he was advised that Patient had been treated with a nebuliser.

Study into Hendra virus vaccine releasedAn extensive study has confirmed vaccination against the deadly Hendra virus does not affect the racing performance of horses. Whether the vaccinations can diminish a horse's ability on the racetrack had been an area of concern with the vaccine, which has been available since 2012, being used on less than 25 per cent of the racehorse population. "The extensive study examined the Timeform rating of 1,154 thoroughbreds over 12,066 race starts and assessed their performance one and three months before and after vaccination, with no difference in form detected," Ross Barnett of the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission said.

Herbie Dyke task for Promise To ReignPromise To Reign (Manhattan Rain) will get a shot at Group One racing on Saturday after connections elected to accept for the Herbie Dyke Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) at Te Rapa. The Brendan and Jo Lindsay-owned five-year-old was withdrawn from the open handicap at Te Rapa on Waitangi Day in favour of the feature weight-for-age event on the second day of the Waikato meeting. “Obviously, the handicap was a much easier race but for a mare like her Group One performance is extremely important,” said Moira Murdoch, who trains with her daughter Kieran.

Sistema next for AvantageUnbeaten filly Avantage (Fastnet Rock) will not have another run until the Sistema Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) at Ellerslie on 10 March. The Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards-trained two-year-old filly is unbeaten in her four career starts and was most recently seen taking out the Karaka Million (RL, 1200m) at Ellerslie on 27 January. “We’re pleased

with the way she came through that run and she’ll be going straight to the Sistema Stakes on March 10,” said Richards.

Manawatu Sires’ aim for Bit LippyAfter landing his first stakes race when taking out the Phoenix Park 2YO Classic (Gr 3, 1200m), Bit Lippy (Showcasing) has been handed a Group One target, with the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) on the gelding’s agenda. “He’s going to go to the Matamata Slipper and then the Sires’ Produce, I’m not sure about the Sistema as the Manawatu one is a bit longer and that will suit him,” trainer Wayne Hillis said. “He’d been unlucky in a couple so he deserved it.”

Showemup joins Baker-Forsman stableStakes winner Showemup (Showcasing) has been transferred from Sally McKay’s stable to the premiership-winning stable of Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman, after a majority interest in the mare was purchased by Lib Petagna’s JML Bloodstock, who will race the mare with original owners Dennis and Sally Mullally. “She’s got a lot of ability, but we had a few issues with her,” former trainer McKay said. “She kept hitting herself, but they will have good farriers up there and after her trial they seem to be on the right track.”

Hello It’s Me goes for breakHello It’s Me (Darci Brahma) will not run in the New Zealand Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) at Ellerslie on 3 March and has instead been sent for a spell. The three-year-old filly won the Royal Stakes (Gr 2, 2000m) on New Year’s Day and co-trainers Donna Logan and Chris Gibbs feel she has missed too much work, after suffering a few issues, to be competitive in the Group One. “She’s had a lot of niggly things, feet issues and stone bruises and she missed too much work,” Gibbs said. “We’ve decided it’s best to stop and reassess things later. “It’s a shame because we thought she would be very, very competitive. She’s got a tonne of ability so we may head toward Brisbane with her or Sydney’s a chance.”

Hard Merchandize spelledGroup Two winner Hard Merchandize (Burgundy) has been sent for a spell, according to trainer Gary Vile. The gelding, who won the Hawke’s Bay Guineas (Gr 2, 1400m) in the spring, was turned out after he finished seventh in the Karaka 3YO Classic (RL, 1600m). “He’s gone for a good spell,” Vile said. “He hasn’t missed a cheque all season. It was a good run at Auckland, but he didn’t quite see the mile out.”

Packing Dragon back to formThe Ricky Yiu-trained Packing Dragon (Mastercraftsman) bounced back to form with a game front-running victory at Happy Valley yesterday. The Group Three-placed gelding had been out of sorts in recent starts but was able to dictate steady fractions under Matthew Poon in the feature Class Two Wong Nai Chung Handicap (1800m). He kicked at the top of the straight and battled on well to score by a nose from Prawn Baba (Duke Of Marmalade) in the HK$1,860,000 race, with Rickfield (Dansili) just a short-head further behind in third. Girl Talk tops Fasig-Tipton MixedThe well-bred and stakes-placed mare Girl Talk (Medaglia d’Oro) was sold for a sale-topping US$310,000 during the final session of the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Winter Mixed Sale on Tuesday. Catalogued as Lot 574, the five-year-old was purchased by Rock Ridge Thoroughbreds from the draft of Denali Stud. She is out of the Grade Two-winning mare One Caroline (Unbridled’s Song), making her a half-sister to Grade Three placegetter Improv (Distorted Humor).

Fasig-Tipton figures up Overall, 364 horses sold for a gross of US$10,436,800 at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Winter Mixed Sale, up 9.8 per cent from last year's total. The average was US$28,673, a 5.9

per cent increase from 2017, while the median was up 16.7 per cent to US$10,500. "You can really sell a good horse right now," said Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning. "There's a lot of demand and the one thing that continues to be encouraging at the upper end of the marketplace is the number of bidders on both the foals and the mares." Lindsay Park pair to race in DubaiLindsay Park will be represented by two runners at today’s meeting at Meydan, with Shaf (Wanted) and Mutamayel (Snitzel) set to go to post. Shaf failed to make an impact on his first start in Dubai when down the field in a 1000 metre handicap on 25 January, and he will bid to improve on that effort under Jim Crowley in the Watch Time Handicap (1000m). Meanwhile, the lightly-raced Mutamayel will have his first start in Dubai in the US$100,000 Meydan Classic Trial (1400m). Click here to view today’s Meydan racecard.

Jo Griffin, Lime Country Thoroughbreds “Inspections have been higher than expected for this time of the sale and all the right people are here, we’ve been busy both today and yesterday. “Lot 99 in the Gold Riband session, by Smart Missile has been really well received and has been very busy today and yesterday. She’s been very popular. If you were to buy a racehorse for its, walk it would be her!“It’s perfect, it’s pretty much as good as it gets. I like the mix of surfaces for showing yearlings, I also like the openness of it, but also the containment when required. It’s really a fantastic facility - they have done an amazing job."

Rae-Louise Farmer, Fernrigg Farm“They’ve been good, it’s been constant all day. We’ve had all the right people come and look at the draft which is the main thing.

“I think it’s perfect. It’s all the best parts of sale complexes from around the world put together into one big facility. The range of surfaces they have available is amazing, because you do get some horses that just don’t walk great on the dirt and then you have the option of the grass or the concrete. It’s really exciting to be here."

Bruce Slade, Newgate Farm: “We have been extremely busy and I can’t remember any stage where we have not had at least one parade going. We have taken this sale very seriously and targeted the sale with some outstanding prospects particularly by our first crop stallions Deep Field, Dissident and Wandjina and it is nice to see them on everyone’s first inspection lists. “Again this year we have our $100,000 bonus applicable only to the buyers of our first crop stallions at the Classic sale who can go on and win the $2,000,000 Inglis two-year-old race in 2019. We are a real chance of having to pay this bonus next year given the quality of Deep Field, Dissident and Wandjina yearlings we have seen across all vendors at this first sale at the new Inglis complex“We were expecting the new complex at Riverside to be great but it has exceeded our expectations. We are able to showcase

It’s our first day parading so, we’re very happy with the way it’s going so far. "We have a lovely Hinchinbrook (Lot 38), she’s a lovely big strong, athletic filly and very typical of Hinchinbrook there is plenty of substance about her. People have liked her. We have a nice Star Witness as well (Lot 377), she’s also a lovely athletic type, big hind-quarter really strong, very typical of him.

Ryan McEvoy, Widden Stud: “Inspections have been particularly strong and we couldn’t be happier with the level of interest in the Widden draft. “The Sebring filly out of Shaqira (Lot 63), the Dissident colt out of Totally Sure (72) and the Rubick colt out of Honeymoon Cruise (105), all selling in the Gold Riband on Saturday night, have been super popular as has our Shamus Awards and Your Songs“I believe we have real depth in our draft and are also have quality yearlings by in-form stallions Star Witness, Pierro and Nicconi.

our yearlings to their potential with plenty of room to move, show all buyers and our clients good hospitality, and a nice touch was providing our hard-working team with free breakfast and laundry services. We could not be more positive after two days of parading.”

Jim Carey, stud manager of Coolmore Australia: “We have been looking forward to the first sale at Riverside for some time, so it is exciting to be here. There seems to be a good atmosphere around the complex and the feedback on the new facility appears to be unanimously positive, so the Inglis team deserve great credit. “This has been a hugely progressive sale in recent years and we are expecting another strong renewal. It’s no surprise that our Fastnet Rocks are very popular given how well the stallion is going. He has had three stakes-winning two-year-olds in 2018 already and the Astonish colt (Lot 81) ems to be particularly popular. “We have a very athletic Pierro filly out of quality racemare Vivi Veloce (Lot 207) that has also been well found. The expectation is that the Verrazano/Let’s Get Famous (Lot 487) colt is another that will be a very good seller. He is a particularly good mover and is by a top-class racehorse from a good family”

“Riverside Stables is stunning and such a great place to parade yearlings. The entire Inglis team should be commended on the vision and the completion of such an outstanding sales complex.”

Paul Messara, Arrowfield Stud"Inspections have been very busy so far. Through two days of parading, we have been far busier than we expected."Peoplea are very keen on the Olympic Glorys. He impressed buyers at Magic Millions and I’m sure they’ll like the types they see at this sale too. "Inglis should be very proud of the facility they’ve built. It’s spacious, well thought out with a great attention to detail - and importantly, makes viewing yearlings very easy."

Leading Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) contender Performer (Exceed And Excel) [113] returned with a narrow first-up win in

Saturday’s Canonbury Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) at Rosehill taking a rating just two pounds below his Timeform peak, write Alex Steedman and Adam Blencowe.

Performer is a talented colt, having impressively won the Breeders’ Plate (Listed, 1000m) at Randwick in September on debut achieving a 115 Timeform rating and Saturday was this Chris Waller-trained colt’s only start since.

Breeders’ Plate winners tend to be the cream of the crop and Performer has sat at the top of Timeform's 2017-2018 Two-Year-Old table since that victory.

Sebring (More Than Ready) [123] and Vancouver (Medaglia d’Oro) [122p] both won the Canonbury Stakes and then went on to claim the Golden Slipper Stakes, so that bodes well for Performer.

Although Performer had to dig deep in his first-up win after looking set for a relatively comfortable win when the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained colt Stratosphere (Snitzel) [106p] lifted gamely in the closing stages with the former holding on to score by a short half head.

History points to it being a strong form reference as both colts head deeper into the autumn and the runner-up Stratosphere was good on debut. Admittedly, he carried three kilograms less than Performer but he staged a very smart effort.

The Breeders’ Plate was run and won in particularly fast time, earning Performer a Racing And Sports timefigure of 115, but the Canonbury Stakes proved a very different beast, the moderate early pace seeing Performer return a timefigure of just 85.

The Chris Waller-trained filly Fiesta (I Am Invincible) netted herself a Timeform rating of 105 in taking out the following race, the Widden Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m), her first win in three starts after showing promise being placed in her only other runs.

Fiesta had trialled well in readiness for this without blinkers but Waller applied them for the first time when resuming, a gear change that often proves to be a positive.

She came with a late run under Kerrin McEvoy (who also rode Performer) to defeat the Gerald Ryan-trained filly Adamina (Snitzel) [105] by a neck with River Bird (Your Song) [98] two and a half lengths further back in third.

There is little doubt that Fiesta would have won by more if she had obtained a clear passage earlier in the straight.

The Widden Stakes is often a good launching pad into the Golden Slipper Stakes with Overreach (Exceed And Excel) [121+] in 2013 and Mossfun (Mossman) [119] in 2014 both having won the Widden Stakes prior to winning that rich Group One juvenile feature.

But they admittedly ran higher figures than Fiesta achieved on Saturday, regardless she is a really promising filly that has clearly started her campaign well.

Fiesta ran the same 1100 metre distance four lengths quicker overall time but Performer comes away rated 115 by Timeform while she rated 105.

A bigger field for the Widden Stakes resulted in a much more competitive race early. The finishing speed (expressed as a percentage of overall race time) was 103.4 percent while Performer's finishing speed was 109.3 percent.

Fiesta was finishing quicker than par, and her overall time can be marked up somewhere in the range of a length, but Performer's finishing speed was impressive.

His 109.3 per cent finishing speed over the Rosehill 1100 metres suggests that Performer could have run a time the best part of a dozen lengths quicker had he run his race more efficiently.

A Racing And Sports timefigure of 85 might actually be a timefigure in the low 120’s, which is Golden Slipper Stakes winning territory.

Runner-up Stratosphere may have had the run of things from the front but he was still very good on debut and his finishing speed also points to him being capable of much better.

| 19 |

Not nearly by as much as Performer, though, with the closing sectionals suggesting that a margin of nearly three lengths would have been a better reflection of the two runs.

Stratosphere is clearly very good - rated 106 by Timeform after just one trip to the races which is fairly rare. If Performer was to beat him by the margin that those late closing splits suggest we again land on a rating in the low 120’s.

The feature race of the day was the Expressway Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) and that was taking out impressively by Trapeze Artist (Snitzel) [118] who scored by just over a length from Showtime (Snitzel) [113] with Addictive Nature (Savabeel) [112] a half-neck away third.

The Gerald Ryan-trained colt’s first-up performance was assessed at 118, which is four pounds under Trapeze Artist’s 122 Timeform master rating achieved in winning the Golden Rose Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m).

Accordingly, Trapeze Artist still has about a length up his sleeve this preparation based on his Golden Rose Stakes victory and is now return to his own age in the Hobartville Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) at Rosehill on 24 February.

Outside of Trapeze Artist, Showtime and Addictive Nature were good filling the minor placings while Ace High (High Chaparral) was strong late for fifth in a good return by the David Payne-trained colt over an unsuitable trip.

Ace High took out the Spring Champion Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) - Victoria Derby (Gr 1, 2500m) double last spring and now heads to Randwick Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) on 10 March.

Performer returns rating just two pounds under his Timeform peak in winning Canonbury Stakes

Analysis: Chris Waller-trained colt Zousain staged a promising effort in winning here on debut. He settled in fifth place, on the rails, from his inside barrier (1) behind a smart tempo (first 200m 22.92) before getting through to challenge at the 100m. He then fought gamely to score by a long head in a keenly contested finish. Godolphin-raced colt Pindus settled at the tail of the seven-horse field, moved up strongly on straightening, challenged at the 100m and battled strongly for a close second in a smart debut effort. His stablemate Hiemal raced back in fifth place, one off the rails, put in a good run from the 300m and fought on nicely for a close up third.

Analysis: Frankel (Galileo) colt Tangmere, from the Chris Waller stable, resumed at his third race start to score a really good win here. He settled nicely in third place on the rails from his inside barrier (1), behind a steady pace. He was blocked on straightening and finished strongly along the inner when a split came at the 100m to win quite impressively. He should appreciate further and is a horse to watch.

ALL TOO HARDAnother winner by the Champion 3yo

Analysis: Team Hawkes-trained three-year-old gelding Swaffham Bulbeck broke through here for his first win in three starts. Having his first start this preparation, he began well and settled outside the leader (Selective) at a good tempo before getting to the front, under pressure, at the 200m. He looked likely to be beaten at the 100m but got to the front again after the David Pfieffer-trained filly Prahaar raced erratically on debut, dislodging Jason Collett, at the 50m point when looking the likely winner.
