Why Missions? I am often asked, “why are you so interested in missions?” Well, that is a bit of a long story, but can be summed up in one Bible verse. Acts 1:8 says: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” This was the last thing Jesus said on earth – we are to be witnesses. People also ask, “what is the big deal about international missions when there is so much to do here at home?” – a valid question. The answer is the scripture does not give us and either/or proposition it is both/and. We are told to do both. We cannot neglect one over the other. I believe we in the West have lost our since of calling, purpose and identity. We forget that we are all sinners saved by grace and that someone prayed for us, told us the Good News (over and over again), and invited us to Jesus. Jesus left us here to tell others the Good News over and over and invite people into a relationship with Jesus Christ. That is why we “do” missions; because the world needs to know Jesus. Period!
