Petunias
-Full Sun. Can grow in partial shade
but will have fewer flowers.
-Best if sheltered from wind
-Well draining soil
-Tolerant to heat so a weekly thorough
watering should suffice. If in a
container additional watering is
necessary.
Marigolds
-Full Sun
-Easy to grow
-Moderately fertile soil. Loamy, sandy,
clay.
-Marigolds bloom more profusely in
poor soil. Do not over fertilize.
Coleus -Dappled or part shade. Best conditions
morning sun but protected from the
afternoon sun.
-Sensitive to low temperatures. Wait to
plant until night time temps are above 60
degrees.
-Soil with a pH balance over 7 (don’t like
acidic soil, well-draining, and warm.
-Pinch back small flower buds, which will
direct growth to the leaves. Pinch tips of
leaves every few weeks for a bushier plant.

-Easy to grow. Self-seed.
-Loamy
-Attract birds, bees, and butterflies.
Deadhead to prolong flowering.
Dahlia
-Full sun
-Need some shelter from wind.
Require a deep water 2 to 3 times a
week (30 min) and extra care after a
rain storm.
-Sandy, loamy. Soil at least 60
degrees.
-Generally bloom from midsummer to
first frost.
Dusty Miller
-Full sun
-Low maintenance. Drought resistant.
Benefits from a deep soak watering
but wait until soil dries to water again.
-Well drained; grows as well in poor
soil as rich.
-Deer resistant
Lobelia
-Sun, part shade (where summer heat
is intense)
-Low maintenance
-Well drained soil. Prefer rich soil.
-Good for window boxes, hanging
baskets, garden borders. Deer
resistant. Attracts butterflies.

Moss Rose
-Full Sun
-Hardy plant. Thrives in drought, heat,
and lousy soil. Easy to grow.
-Thrive in average to poor soil. Wait
for soil to dry between watering.
-Should bloom all summer. Deadhead
and water to help continue blooms.
Snapdragon (dwarf)
-Full Sun
-Easy care
-Well drained soil: prefers light soil
high in organic matter.
-Tolerates frost. Dwarf variety only
grow 6 to 12 inches in height and
width.
Snapdragon (tall)
-Full sun to bloom most profusely.
Partial shade to help them bloom
throughout the summer into the fall.
-Treated more as an annual than
perennial. Harder to grow as a
perennial.
-Neutral soil pH. Cool soil.
-All parts of snapdragons are
poisonous if ingested. At their best in
cool weather. Grow between 30 and
45 inches tall.
Verbena
-Full Sun
-Lower maintenance. Water about the
amount of an inch of rain water a
week.
-Well drained soil. Avoid heavy clay.
Shovel in compost to soil.
-Somewhat drought tolerant. Attracts
butterflies. Will bloom all season in
well drained soil.

-Tolerates a wide variety of conditions.
Hot, cold, dry, wet.

-Full sun.
-Need rich soil with lots of compost for
showy flowers.
-Soil needs to be moist. Water during
dry spells. Soil should drain well.

-Full Sun
-Easy to grow and grow quickly.
-Any, Sandy, Loamy. Amend with
compost to grow more quickly.
-Good cut flower. Attracts butterflies.
Very colorful.
Hypoestes
-Indoor use bright indirect light
-Likes humidity. Use a mist spray
occasionally.
-Outdoor part shade
-Does well as a container plant
-Pinch back often to maintain bush
form.

Flower likes full sun for most of the
day but light shade in the afternoon
works too. Soil should be able to
drain well and water once a week
about 1 inch deep. Great for

Shade tolerant but ideally will do
well with some morning sun. Water
so the soil has constant moisture
but not soggy. Larger than normal
impatiens and low maintenance.
Wave Petunia Trailing
Popular fast spreading flower with
lots of blooms. Needs full sun and
do not let the soil dry out between
watering.
Lantana
Full sun and prefer well-draining
soil that is slightly acidic. Attracts
butterflies and hummingbirds.
Plant after last frost.

Double Impatiens
Plant in a shaded area with moist
fast draining soil. Avoid heavy,
clay based soil. Pinch back stems
for a more bushier plant. Flower
resembles a rose.
Gerbera Daisy
Plant in full or partial sun. Wait for
soil to dry out partially between
watering. Great cut flower and will
last in a vase for a week. Also
good indoor plant for air cleaning.
Million Bells
Flower has a continuous bloom,
spreads well, and is low
maintenance. Grows in full sun
with loamy soil. Deer resistant but
attracts hummingbirds and
butterflies.
Heather
Heather prefers full sun with well-
draining soil. They need to be
protected from winter winds.
Bloom from late July to November.
