KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS/YOUTH MINISTRY FUNDRAISER - 2019

This year our parish Youth Ministry is again partnering with Holy Martyrs Knights of Columbus. We are asking parishioners to consider purchasing two Super Cash Bonanza tickets to help St. Anthony/All Saints Youth Ministry raise money for our activities. This year, for each $5.00 ticket purchased, Youth Ministry will automatically keep $3.00. With the exception of the prize money, ALL of the remaining money from each ticket goes to charity. Simply return completed ticket stubs in the blue/green envelope with cash or checks made out to K of C #4733 in the collection basket sometime on or before Sunday, May 6th. You need only put your name and 10-digit phone number and/or your complete mailing address on each ticket stub. This ties in with next weekend’s Knights of Columbus open house, where they’ll collect for the S.O.S. (Support our Seminarians) drive and have a membership drive. Look for more information in next week’s bulletin!

Do you have an hour or so Wednesday morning ? We’ll be assembling the Lenten Letter on Wed., Feb. 27th at 9:30 in the Friendship Room. Snacks will be provided!!

2018 TAX STATEMENTS We thank our parishioners and benefactors for their generosity throughout the year. Due to the high cost of postage, we will be mailing statements upon request. If you need a tax substantiation for 2018, please call the office and leave your name.

Hello! I’m hoping you’ve seen the page in the bulletin the past few weeks detailing some of the upcoming programs throughout the Lenten season. When we receive ashes on Ash Wednesday we hear, “Remember you are dust and to dust you shall return,” or “Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel.” We often think of Lent as a sad time. It is actually not sad or somber, but a sober time. The message of Lent is joyful hope. Lent offers new beginnings or renewal through inner penance, change, freedom and new life. We have Lent because we have Easter. Easter is the celebration of new life from death. Ashes remind us of our mortality, as well as repentance. When we face mortality we tend to want to get our lives in order, we focus on what’s important. We wear ashes to symbolize our willingness to change, to die to sin and be reborn to new life. During Lent we have “The Big Three”, no, not This Is Us big three. I mean, the Lenten disciplines of Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving. These disciplines help us learn how to follow Christ more closely. Prayer opens us up to God. It helps us know ourselves and God better and nourishes our spirit. Fasting purifies us, if we can control basic urges, we can learn to control stronger desires that pull us away from God. This focuses on our need for God! Almsgiving allows God’s mercy to flow through us, it’s our response to God’s abundant and merciful grace. We give of ourselves to serve others’ needs. These actions help to develop and perfect the love that Jesus asks of His followers. This Lent we have many opportunities for prayer, fasting, almsgiving, reflection, renewal and quiet.

• We will continue with our annual Lenten Soup and Stations on Tuesday evenings this year. We will begin at 6pm in the Friendship Room with a simple meal of soup and bread. We are still in need of parishioners to make soup. If you are willing to make soup please contact me as soon as possible.

• We have two fabulous offerings for prayer and reflection with Sr. Roberta (Bobbie) Doneth, OSF. First, we offer

a Wednesday morning book study on the wonderful Joyce Rupp book, Boundless Compassion: Creating a Way of Life. We will begin after morning mass and a simple breakfast will be provided. It is a $12 donation per book. Readings are only 3-5 pages per day during the week. Each day includes a prayer for reflection and a scripture passage.

• Sr. Bobbie will also facilitate our Lenten Mission, Encountering the Compassion of Christ on April 7

th, 8

th

and 9th, 6-8pm in the Friendship Room. The mission will

help us step away from our ordinary routine to spend some extra time focusing on what it is that God asks of each of us as followers of Christ.

• Mr. Dick Ross will facilitate Adult Formation sessions on The Passion of Christ. We will gather to walk with Jesus during his Passion as told by each of the evangelists. This will be guided by the commentary of Fr. Raymond Brown, renowned Catholic Scripture Scholar, in his book, The Death of the Messiah: From Gethsemane to the Grave. The sessions with begin on March 13

th and continue on Wednesday evenings

during Lent from 7-8:30pm in the Friendship Room.

• If you are looking for a self-paced Lenten retreat and you are a “Busy Person” join us for the Busy Person’s Retreat. This self-paced retreat gives you a chance to nourish your heart and soul, to find spiritual energy and meaning in your life. The retreat is available in print or on-line format. Please contact me for more information.

• We will also continue our “Leave the Light On” Evening of Reconciliation on Wednesday, March 20

th at 6:30-

8pm. A short guided Examination of Conscience will be available at 6:15pm for those who are interested.

I pray that through these Lenten offerings you are renewed in your faith and you experience joyful hope this Easter! Your Sister in Christ, Roberta

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE—In studying the effects of

religion upon family relationships, researchers inform us hostility and prayer can’t coexist. You cannot be hostile toward someone for whom you are praying. Today’s Gospel encourages us: “Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who treat you badly.”

A Self- Paced Retreat Busy Perso's Retrea:How can you find God in the midst of your busy life?

A “Busy Person’s Retreat” is a way to grow in awareness of self ,others, the world, and God as you ask yourself:

Who you are at this moment? What are you busy about? How you can get in touch with your true self,

and where you can find God in daily life?

This self-paced retreat gives you a chance to nourish your heart and soul, to find spiritual energy and meaning in your life,

and to see where you are on your journey to God. Taking just a few minutes out of your busy day to tap into your

spiritual energy will give you the serenity you long for. While sitting uninterrupted in a quiet space, you can think

over a concern or lift your mind and soul to God. Meditation is really very simple–quieting the usual

“busy-ness” of your mind and spirit.

Part 1. How Can You Make Each Day Count?Part 2. How Can You Live God’s Blessings?

Part 3. How Do You Love Others?Part 4. What Is Your Attitude toward Work?

Part 5. How Do You Find God in Creation–and Re-creation?Part 6. How and When Do You Pray?

Part 7. Where Is Your Life Journey Leading You?

This Retreat is available in print or on-line format. For more information or to register contact Roberta.

Facilitated by Sr. Roberta (Bobbie) Doneth, OSFLent is always a good time to come apart from the ordinary routine and spend some

extra time focusing on what it is that God asks of each of us as followers of Christ. Our three day Mission will look at “Encountering the Compassion of Christ” in our

daily lives. It is an invitation to grow in the kind of love that motivated Jesus to be a compassionate presence. Through the actions of Jesus we are able to look at our own awareness, attitudes and actions as we experience the compassion of Christ and do our best to extend compassionate presence to others. Please join us for as many of

the evenings that are possible.
