DESCRIPTION

This two-and-a-half day live symposium, which is the tenth in an annual series, has been designed to present and discuss the diagnosis and treatment paradigms for aortic diseases, including medical, endovascular, surgical, and hybrid options. Sessions topics will include Structural Heart, Aortic Root/BAV, Ascending Aorta/Aortic Dissection (Proximal), Transverse Arch, Aortic Dissection (Distal), DTAA/TEVAR, Molecular/Genetics/Medical, and TAAA.

The scientific program was formulated by consulting the current literature and national data, in conjunction with the expertise of the Program Directors and esteemed faculty, and incorporating information gathered from online needs assessment surveys and evaluation outcomes.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

After attending the symposium, participants should be able to:

s Understand the current management of acute/chronic, symptomatic/asymptomatic, and complicated/uncomplicated aortic dissection

s Examine updates from the latest trials for aortic dissection

s Compare the latest results for open, hybrid, and endovascular repair for the transverse aortic arch

s Review current management of the bicuspid aortic valve and its aortopathy

s Understand the latest techniques in open and endovascular management of complex abdominal aortic aneurysms

s Review the latest techniques for descending thoracic aortic aneurysm repair

s Contrast open and endovascular techniques for thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm management

s Evaluate updates on recent advances in vascular genetics

s Examine the current techniques in minimally invasive cardiac surgery

s Review the most recent results of transcatheter aortic and mitral valve replacement

CME ACCREDITATION AND DESIGNATION

HONORING HAZIM J. SAFI, MD

Hazim J. Safi, MD, completed his medical training and surgical residency at Baghdad University College of Medicine. He subsequently completed a fellowship at St. James’ hospital in London, and came to Houston in 1977, where he once again was fully trained in the US system as a general surgeon, and also completed fellowship training in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery. He trained under the giants of the field – Michael E. DeBakey, E. Stanley Crawford and many others – and he has been described by one of his peers as “Legendary for his surgical skills among people who are legendary for their surgical skills”.
