Steelton, Pennsylvania February 21, 2013 The Steelton-Highspire School Board met on the above date with the following members present: President, Ms. Mary J. Carricato; Vice-President, Ms. Rachel M. Slade; Mr. Barry L. Baumgardner; Mr. Joseph Conjar; Mrs. Natalie Grubb; Ms. Sarah F. Metallo; Mr. John Salov; Mr. Robert Spizzirri; and Mrs. Rosemary Tonkin. Also present was Dr. Audrey Utley, Superintendent; Dr. Wendy Reisinger, Assistant to the Superintendent; Mrs. Sherry Roland- Washington, Assistant to the Superintendent; Mr. Vincent Champion, School Solicitor; Mrs. Susan Helms, District Accountant; Mrs. Annie Long, Board Secretary; Mr. Travis Waters, High School Principal; Mr. Timothy Wendling, Elementary School Principal; and Mrs. Carol Hollern, Recording Secretary. Attached is a copy of a list of names of the members of the public who were present. Ms. Carricato called the meeting to order at 6:33 P.M. The meeting opened with the “Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag”. ANNOUNCEMENT OF EXECUTIVE SESSION Ms. Carricato announced that an Executive Session was held prior to tonight’s meeting to discuss personnel. PRESENTATIONS Sherry Roland-Washington and Travis Waters presented the attached power point regarding the new high school graduation requirements beginning with the Class of 2017. PUBLIC COMMENT (Agenda Items) There was no Public Comment. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mr. Spizzirri made a motion to approve the January 7, 2013 Planning Meeting minutes. Second by Mrs. Grubb. All members voted aye. Mr. Conjar made a motion to approve the January 17, 2013 Legislative Meeting minutes. Second by Mr. Salov. All members voted aye.

The Steelton-Highspire School Board met on the above date with the following members

present: President, Ms. Mary J. Carricato; Vice-President, Ms. Rachel M. Slade; Mr. Barry L.

Baumgardner; Mr. Joseph Conjar; Mrs. Natalie Grubb; Ms. Sarah F. Metallo; Mr. John Salov;

Mr. Robert Spizzirri; and Mrs. Rosemary Tonkin. Also present was Dr. Audrey Utley,

Ms. Slade made a motion to approve the attached updated Substitute Teacher Listings

for the Elementary and High Schools. Second by Mr. Spizzirri. All members voted aye

TAX COLLECTORS’ COMPENSATION 2013-2016

Ms. Slade made a motion to approve the Steelton and Highspire Tax Collectors’ base

salary and compensation for the next four year term effective July 1, 2013 through

June 30, 2016 as follows. Second by Mr. Spizzirri. All members voted aye on roll call.

of Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent. Second by Mr. Spizzirri. All members

CALENDARS

Mr. Spizzirri made a motion to adopt the following attached calendars for the 2013-2014

school year. Second by Mrs. Tonkin. All members voted aye on roll call. (9 ayes, 0

nays, 0 abstentions, 0 absent)

District Calendar – 2013-2014

12-Month Employee Calendar – 2013-2014

ACCEPTANCE OF DONATIONS

Ms. Slade made a motion to accept a donation of $600 to the Steelton-Highspire School

District from the McInroy-Sheffer People Trust. These funds will be used for

interscholastic academic competitions. Second by Mr. Spizzirri. All members voted aye

on roll call. (9 ayes, 0 nays, 0 abstentions, 0 absent)

Dr. Utley informed the Board that the Steelton Zoning Board will meet on March 21,

2013 at 6:00 p.m. and they will vote on the request for a waiver for a cellphone tower

at the football field.

Dr. Utley reported that the Dauphin County Band Festival was an amazing performance

by all the students.

SPECIAL REPORTS

Athletic Association

Mr. Salov reported that the girls’ basketball team will begin District playoffs on

Saturday.

BOARD ROUND TABLE

Mrs. Grubb, Mr. Salov, Mr. Conjar, and Ms. Carricato all wished the girls basketball

team good luck in the upcoming District playoffs.

Mr. Baumgardner clarified his statement of January 17, 2013 regarding the acquisition

of the home that is situated on District property. Mr. Baumgardner said he realizes

in these economic times, money is not available for purchase of the home, but would

like the Board to request a Right of First Refusal from the owners.

Mrs. Tonkin also commented on the outstanding job of the musicians at the

Dauphin County Band Festival.
