Highly Qualified Teachers

The School District of La Crosse takes pride in hiring only highly qualified teachers. This means they are fully trained, certified, and often experienced in the position they teach. Our faculty consistently has a high percentage of advanced degrees, and we do a good job of retaining some of the top staff in the state and the nation. Life events, such as retirement, childbirth, or illness, sometimes cause a need for a long-term substitute teacher. When this happens we always make every effort to hire a highly qualified substitute. All are certified teachers and most are licensed in the area in which they are substituting. In rare cases it may be impossible to find a teacher with a particular certification, such as special education. This may result in the district asking the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for an emergency license for such a teacher. If you ever have any questions about the certification of any of our staff, please call me at 789-7900. Mr. McDonald

2018-2019 CENTRAL NHS

As the Central High School National Honor Society kicked off the new school year, loads of new members were inducted and ready to make a difference. A NHS team was created to participate in the La Crosse Area Ifeed and helped pack thousands of meals. Along with other volunteering opportunities, the members successfully organized and ran a Blood Drive. Whether it was by giving blood or working at the check-in station, most members participated in making this Blood Drive a huge success. A student organized event that took place throughout Central was the Book Drive held in the LMC. Member Allyson Fergot fully coordinated the drive that sent new and used books to the Juvenile Detention Center here in La Crosse. This was one of the many great accomplishments these members have done. NHS looks forward to a great rest of the 2019 school year by volunteering throughout the community, raising money for scholarships, and trying to make the world a better place.

La Crosse Promise

The La Crosse Promise Future Centers are advising centers in both Central and Logan High School that connect high school students with the resources to support their post-high school goals and ensure their future success. We are an independent non-profit agency that focuses on Academic and Career planning in a variety of ways. The bulk of our advisors’ work involves one-on-one advising with students to address the challenges and opportunities unique to their individual stations. FUTURE CENTER FAIRS COMING IN MARCH

These events are designed to connect students with employers and other organizations in our community as part of our ongoing efforts to help kids plan for successful futures. The goal is to bring the “future” to the students so they can ask questions about career fields, find resources, and discover the world of work and educational opportunities through connecting with the community. Tuesday, March 19th from 10:00 AM—1:00 PM at Logan High School, 1500 Ranger Drive Tuesday, March 26th from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM at Central High School, 1801 Losey Blvd So. Visit your Future Center Advisor Haley Moe in Room 243 during the school day to discuss your plans for the future. We’re here to help you succeed.

FEM CLUB

Central’s Feminist Equity Movement Club (F.E.M.) has been busy the past months with various projects. The students have been selling shirts with the phrase “This is what a feminist looks like” with all proceeds going towards New Horizon’s Womens Shelter. F.E.M. also sponsored a New Horizon’s family this past holiday season. Within the school, F.E.M. has started collecting feminine hygiene products in an effort to combat period poverty. Currently, 1 out of every 5 American girls misses school due to the lack of feminine hygiene products. Other projects headed by F.E.M. this year have been aimed towards voter registration and cultural appropriation. If you would like to buy a t-shirt or donate hygiene products, please contact Mrs. Beauchamp, F.E.M. Club Advisor at [email protected]
