President’s Report

by Peter McCarthy

Dear friends,

Much has happened since our last REVS back in December. The biennial FX-FJ Nationals in Murray Bridge, SA have been run and won. We celebrated Australia Day in the usual manner with a great display for an appreciative audience at the Wynnum foreshore. Earlier this month we held our AGM. On a sad note we celebrated the life of Dave Chambers (Club life member). Our thoughts are with Joanne and the children. Reflections on each of these gatherings are contained in the following pages.

AGM: I would like to take this opportunity to thank each member of the 2018 Committee for the contributions they made throughout the year. It enabled the Club to continue to run smoothly and efficiently. At the AGM on 11th February, the incumbents were elected to retain their same

positions, with the addition of Les Ross who was elected Major Events Co-ordinator. I see no reason why 2019 won’t be another fun-filled, action-packed year.

ALL HOLDEN DAY: Les has lost no time in taking the initiative to organize another ALL HOLDEN DAY scheduled for Sunday 24th November at Judy Holt Park, BIRKDALE (which is in the beautiful Redlands). Already a team of enthusiastic club members have put their hands up to be part of the organizing group. If we all pitch in, it promises to be a great event.

CLUB RUNS: Our fearless Run Co-ordinator, Peter Whalley has been busy compiling a schedule of monthly runs which will take us around South East Queensland, and even Northern NSW (see inside for more details).

There will be no shortage of activity within our Club again this year. Let’s all play a part, so that 2019 will be a fulfilling year.

Until next month, keep Holden on!

A woman arrives at heaven and while waiting for Saint Peter peeks through the gates and sees a beautiful banquet table. Sitting around it were all the people she had loved and who had died before her. When Saint Peter came by, the woman said to him: “This is such a wonderful place! How do I get in?” “You have to spell a word” Saint Peter said. “Spell Love.” The woman correctly spelled “love”, and Saint Peter welcomed her into heaven.

About a year later Saint Peter came to the woman and asked her to watch the gates for him. While she was there her husband arrived. “I’m surprised to see you,” she says. “How have you been?” “Oh, I’ve been doing pretty well,” he says. “I married the beautiful young nurse who took care of you while you were ill; I won Gold Lotto, bought a mansion and travelled around the world. We were on holiday and I went water skiing, fell, hit my head, and here I am. How do I get in?” “You have to spell a word, “the woman told him. “Which word?” he asked and she replied: “Czechoslovakia” Meeting closed: 9:15pm. Next meeting is on 11th March 2019.

David Chambers Memorial Car Show Emu Park.

On Saturday 19th January the Memorial Service for Life Member Davis Chambers was held at Bell Park in the seaside town of Emu Park.

A number of FX FJ Holden Club members attended, Les and Sue Ross, Peter and Terry Dorfter took their Caravans. Tony and Jill Manganaro, Bob and Marilyn Schofield and Peter and Noelene Whalley took their Holdens up to the Show. Also Daryl and Bee Neilsen from the Cooroy Club made the trip up in their FJ.

Around 40 vehicles, many from the Coastal Car Club and a local Hot Rod Club were at the show to celebrate David Chambers wishes on his sad passing.

The Memorial Service where Joanne Chambers and her Daughter Leanne and son Scott spoke of his love of Cars and his FJ panel van. Joanne also spoke of David’s fight with cancer and his “Holden Out For a Cure” efforts and a collection for the Cancer Council was part of the Car Show. Les Ross and Tony Manganaro also spoke on behalf of the Club.

The FX Fj Holden Club of Qld donated $500 to the cancer Council.

Joanne and family were very thankful to us making the trip to Emu Park and their hospitality over the weekend was appreciated.

The Car Show and Service was a suitable tribute to David Chambers passion for his Family and Love of cars and in particular his Holdens.

Australia Day Display and Celebrations on the Wynnum Foreshore.

As Wallace said to Grommit “What a Cracking Start to the FX FJ Holden Car Clubs Year” with the Display at the Australia Day Breakfast and Celebrations on the Wynnum Foreshore organised by the local Brisbane City Councillor Peter Cumming. I believe this is the 22nd year of us attending and this is a popular start to our Club year.

With 5 – FX Sedans, 1 – FX Ute, 3 – FJ Sedans, 5 - FJ Utes, 1 FC Sedan and an Efigy replica as well as other Club members were along for the Display.

The display of cars along the foreshore was a crowd delight and a lot of discussion and inquiries from the public were fielded by the Club members.

Peter Cumming the local BCC Councillor and the other organisers from the local service Clubs were impressed with our attendance and we have already been invited to next year’s event.

So put this event in your dairy for next ear.

As a matter of interest Bob Schofield and I took our Holden’s to Emu Park with no breakdowns on the trip of around 900 miles, only a small Muffler problem for Bob.

I break a throttle cable (thanks to Less Ross for organising a temporary repair) arriving at the venue and Bob splits a radiator hose at the same time. We were both able to arrive home OK.

Thanks to all who attended the Display which I think this was a great presentation of the FX FJ Holden Club of Qld.

Anniversary Run 17th February. by Marilyn

Th e vehicles progressively arrived at Rocklea for the 42nd Anniversary run. It was evident to all that it was going to be a hot day. In the comfort of the shade Peter gave his talk on the plans for the day. He also introduced new members Lester and Susan Sinn and just after 8.30am we were on our way with a convoy made up of three FXs, four FJs, one FC and two ringins a Holden Colorado and BMW.

The run took us via the usual variety of roads, some new to some of us, along with an Observation Quiz. Morning tea was enjoyed at Kholo Botanic Gardens under a shady shelter, with the usual selection of goodies.

After morning tea there was ample time for a walk to view the scenery from the edge of the escarpment. This time it was the Brisbane River. We had crossed the Bremer River during the morning’s run.

Back in the vehicles we joined the Warrego Highway and then the Cunningham Highway with some back roads in between. The run finished with series of round- abouts reaching Springfield Tavern in time for lunch in the cool of air conditioning, where we were joined by some other members Ted and Faye.

Cool drinks were consumed and a short time later all the meals were progressively served. After some chatter one by one we said our good byes for the day.

24th National Titles 28th-31st December 2018 my trip by Shane Krueger

The plan is to head to Adelaide and spend Xmas with my son and his family and then head up to Murray Bridge for the Nationals. Big thanks to Maurie who serviced my car and fixed a few problems before I left. 21st December left Clontarf at 5:30am to head to Goondiwindi and down the Newell Highway where at lunchtime it was 450

, that’s when you really miss air con. End of day one, 11hrs. and 520 miles in Coonabarabran. Next day 12 hrs. and 584miles overnight in Euston, car is travelling perfect. Last run into Adelaide 6 hrs. and 303 miles, a total 1,407 miles and $330 in fuel. Xmas with the family, checking and cleaning the FJ ready and heading off on the 28th for scrutineering. Picked Tineke at Adelaide airport and got into Murray Bridge to register by lunch time.

In the afternoon went and booked into the accommodation at the caravan park and unpacked the car to get ready for the welcome dinner that night where we caught up with fellow club members Paul and Allie, Des and Faye and president Pete who arrived driving a Mustang(yes a Ford).

During the evening the boat race was run with the Qld. team coming in 2nd place.

29th was the Show n Shine day and started out with a little drizzle, but cleared to nice cool day.

31st was the driving events day, and I was over driving for now so we opted out of these and went to the Murray Bridge golf course for a round.

That evening was the presentation dinner with Allie winning best exterior.

After seeing in the New Year was straight off to bed as we had an early start on New Year’s Day with packing the car up and off to the departure breakfast and heading off back home.

After a hearty breakfast back on the road and a little detour on the way over to Echuca to catch up with a couple mates, 7 hrs and 392 miles.

Next day was a little warmer again with over 400, stopping in Forbes after 7 and a half hrs. and 338 miles. Next morning off again and made it as far as Goondiwindi to camp for the night, 10 hrs. and 431 miles. Last leg home 305 miles and 7 hrs. on the 6th January.

After 3103 miles which equals 5000 kms and $770 in fuel I knew I had been driving, it’s amazing the funny positions you get your accelerator foot into to give it a rest. Car didn’t miss a beat the entire trip with no mechanical problems.
