Well it seems like Mother Nature is teasing us with some warmer days rid-

ing season will be here before we know it Our calendar is pretty light for

February we have our monthly dinner ride on February 21st to Hollands

Cafe At this time we are still working on the schedule for our safety

classes and we will send emails when we have more information We have

received an e-mail from Bill Burke at Niehaus with an update of their con-

tact information Bills email address is Billniehauscyclecom Niehaus

no longer has the 1-800 phone number the store number is 217-324-

6565 As we begin to plan for riding season we are open to any ride sug-

gestions that you may have please let us know if you have any ( just be-

cause you have a destination in mind doesnt mean we will make you plan

and lead the ride unless you want to) Our next big event will be Spring

Fling March 3rd and 4th at the Grand Glaize Inn at Lake of the Ozarks this

is always a fun weekend with lots of laughter with our fellow GWRRA

members

Chapter Z Assistant Directors

Chapter Z had a great start in January with our first annual Polar bear ride The group

met at Joey Bs for a great meal and fun visiting with friends it was the best way to

start the year The following weekend many of the Z staff met for our first planning

meeting We had a very productive meeting and went over some of the suggestions we

received at the monthly meeting too We will be having another meeting soon as there

is planning to be done for Spring Fling

Our next event was the dinner ride to Main Street Cafeacute on the 17th We had 41 mem-

bers present for dinner it was the largest turnout anyone could ever remember hav-

ing

We are excited to see the increase in members attendance and participation at the

meetings too Keep your ideas coming and letrsquos have a great year

We have been blessed with some really nice days going into the new year Most of us will be

attending Rider Ed LTP and MEP classes during the cold mouths I hope On those special

days that come along it is still important to remember to check not only our bikes but our-

selves Some of us choose to put our bikes away when the cold weather starts to hit along

comes a warm day and we go jump on our bikes and take off Here are some factors to think

about Tires clothing and SKILL If we do not ride for a few weeks it can affect our abilities

Cold weather down time is a good time to take a hard look at our trailers Have you checked

the coupler and your safety chains lately How about tires should you be thinking about re-

placing them This is a good time to install new lighting hardware or purchasing a new

trailer Many dealers run year ending sales saving you major bucks

In the February 2017 issue of Wing World magazine Steve Lake wrote a fantastic article on

night riding If you get a chance to read his article it will not be a waste of your time

When you are out riding remember people are watching you many with cameras Make the

association you belong to proud of you

ldquoTo Facilitate A Reduction In Motorcycle Crashes With Other Motor Vehiclesrdquo

I believe most of us can agree we do not like winter Being motorcycle riders that we

are I believe we dislike it more Having said that we should make the most of this

downtime and ready our motorcycles and riding gear for when riding weather arrives

Most of this you can do yourself or some take to their favorite service shop Check

your tires for wear or damage If there is any doubt replace them They are probably

the most important wear items next to your brake pads Check brake pads and replace

if needed Not worth trying to get another 1000 miles out of them Change oil and fil-

ter Change air filter if it is time Check coolant and change if it is due Check drive

shaft and final drive for wear and lubrication Check spark plugs and change if needed

Inspect your helmets They have a life span even if they appear good The list can go

on and on but the most important has been listed Ask for help or info from fellow

Chapter members if you are not sure This is the time to make your ride safe for when

it is time to ride It also gives you something to do when you cant be outside due to

weather The Goldwing is one the best motorcycles on the road but they do need pre-

ventive maintenance to keep them going and keep them safe The Goldwing is only as

good as the owner that rides and maintains it

We have been blessed with some really nice days going into the new year Most of us will be

attending Rider Ed LTP and MEP classes during the cold mouths I hope On those special

days that come along it is still important to remember to check not only our bikes but our-

selves Some of us choose to put our bikes away when the cold weather starts to hit along

comes a warm day and we go jump on our bikes and take off Here are some factors to think

about Tires clothing and SKILL If we do not ride for a few weeks it can affect our abilities

Cold weather down time is a good time to take a hard look at our trailers Have you checked

the coupler and your safety chains lately How about tires should you be thinking about re-

placing them This is a good time to install new lighting hardware or purchasing a new

trailer Many dealers run year ending sales saving you major bucks

In the February 2017 issue of Wing World magazine Steve Lake wrote a fantastic article on

night riding If you get a chance to read his article it will not be a waste of your time

When you are out riding remember people are watching you many with cameras Make the

association you belong to proud of you

I believe most of us can agree we do not like winter Being motorcycle riders that we

are I believe we dislike it more Having said that we should make the most of this

downtime and ready our motorcycles and riding gear for when riding weather arrives
