Ministry

HUH ?? Cookies and a Bible ?? What’s the connection ?? WE ARE ! We once again have the opportunity to share God’s message of love and hope through our homemade cookie donations with the inmates at the Taylorsville Prison. They receive not only the Word but also a sweet treat made by caring hearts and hands. Brent Bowman, Helen Bowman’s son, donates his time to this outreach Ministry. Last fall he picked up the 100+ dozen cookies that St. Paul contributed. Will you help do “God’s Work with Our Hands”? And this year you have TWO easy opportunities to bring your cookies to the Church by February 19th. You can bring them on Sunday morning when you come to the Youth-sponsored Pancake Breakfast on February 15th or to Ash Wednesday Services on February 18th.

Lipton, Campbell’s or Progresso? No matter what your favorite purchased brand of soup is, get ready to sample the best that St. Paul has to offer. The chefs at St. Paul are getting ready to slice, dice, chop, saute, stir and ladle up your favorite soup or chowder during our Sunday Soup-n-Sandwich meals, starting February 22nd. If you haven’t signed up yet, please see the Bulletin Board outside the Sacristy to commit to bringing a pot of soup or a tray of sandwiches. And

after our “Potluck” (literally) meal, we will have a “Potluck” of pastors from area ELCA churches offering the homily during the Lenten Worship Services that will follow the meal. Please plan on coming to receive strengthening, both physically and spiritually.

A Word from the Pastor

POTLUCK

Dear St. Paul Family,

As I write this I am reminded that

Ash Wednesday is coming up on

February 18th and this will begin

our 40 days of the Lenten season

leading us to Easter Sunday. As

always we will be engaging in

different worship services which

will include traditional Ash

Wednesday, Evening Prayer on

Sunday evenings, and Holy Week

services including a service for

healing, Maundy Thursday, Good

Friday and Easter sunrise.

Our theme for this year is what I

like to call “potluck.” When we

come together at church for a

potluck meal, wonderful food is

prepared, brought and shared

which always works out to

include an excellent variety and

plenty for everyone to get their

fill. This year for Lent, St. Paul’s

will again participate in a round-

robin where I and other pastors

in Catawba County will present

a variety of themes ranging

from portrayal of biblical

characters, parables and other

stories and lessons from the

Holy Bible. This variety of

Lenten themes will come

together to point us to Christ

and His journey to the cross in

ways that will fill us spiritually.

In the near future you will

receive a purple brochure in the

mail which will outline this

potluck theme in more detail.

To kick off our traditional

observation of Lent, we are also

doing something a little

different by offering an early
