Announcement from Employment Services–W2s

W2s were made available to all employees on January 21, 2014 in Kronos Self-Service and the paper version was mailed out on January 22. Both sets of data is the same so you can use the W2 information directly from Kronos to complete your tax forms (just in case your W2 gets lost in the mail or sent to an old address).

Questions about the information on your W2 can be directed to Jennifer DeJolie at extension 2962. Please keep in mind that while Jennifer can explain the information on your W2s and the source of the information located in the various W2 boxes, she is not the correct person to provide you with any type of tax advice – that information needs to come from your tax advisor.

By the way, many employees have asked our department to issue W2s early in January rather than the deadline date (January 31, 2014) to help them complete and submit their taxes to IRS. While there are many variables that impact the timing of when W2s are processed (such as when we receive the latest tax data from our vendor), Jennifer and Monticha were successful this year in their initiative

to complete the W2 process before the mandatory deadline. Since they completed the W2 processing on January 22, 2014, they completed this task much sooner than had been accomplished in previous years, and we are all appreciative of their efforts. We are also hopeful that their work has assisted Foundation employees toward getting their taxes filed sooner this year. Let’s see what Jennifer and Monticha can do next year with the timing of the W2 processing …

Norman J. Priest Scholarship: 2013–2014 WinnersThis award is given to Foundation full-time student employees who embody the ideals of former Foundation Board member Norman J. Priest through their community service, leadership skills, and involvement in the Foundation. Submitted applications are reviewed by Mrs. Halo Priest, her son James Priest, and a Foundation Scholarship Committee. Selection is based on one’s resume, a recommendation from both a supervisor and a Foundation staff member, plus an essay on how the Cal Poly Pomona Foundation has helped them with their educational goals and how the award will help them achieve their career/educational goals. The essay should also highlight how participation and leadership in campus activities and community service will help them achieve their goals.

The two 2013-2014 winners are Angela Beal, Grants and Contracts, and Ben Tunigold, University Village Housing employee.

Angela BealAngela will earn her Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology in 2014 with academic honors. She currently does undergraduate research in immunology with Dr. Jill Adler-Moore at Cal Poly Pomona and Dr. Ellen Collisson at Western University of Health Sciences. Her research involves developing novel vaccines for influenza viruses in two different animal models. She is enthusiastic about the promise of stem cell research for both regenerative medicine as well as toxicology testing. Therefore, she is in the process of applying for the CIRM Bridges to Stem Cells program, which is a six month stem cell research internship, hosted by Cal Poly Pomona. In 2012, she received the Howell-CSUPERB Research Scholars Award for her immunological research project. She also received the Matthew Myers Memorial Scholarship in 2013 for maintaining

a good academic standing, community involvement, and moral responsibility. Her career goal is to become a PhD in neuroscience so she can teach at a university level and develop novel drugs. Angela is an alumni member of the United States Pony Club where she achieved a high level rating for her equestrian knowledge and riding skills. Through this youth organization, she volunteers her time giving horseback riding lessons to children and young adults. She also enjoys outdoor activities, which include hiking, camping, cycling, and rock climbing. Ben Tunigold

Ben is on track to complete his double major in Architecture and Business Management in 2016. In addition, he is completing a minor in Regenerative Studies and is active with the American Institute of Architecture Students and the US Green Building Council on campus.

His career goal is to become a project manager and to work on large scale construction projects. Ben serves his community through the Boy Scouts of America, Habitat for Humanity, Disney VoluntEARs, and other organizations in L.A. and Orange Counties. In addition to school, Ben recently completed a professional internship with the Walt Disney Company and works for the University Village as a Sustainability Advisor. He is excited to continue next year with the University Village as Student Coordinator.

The Grand Opening of Shop24!The Shop 24 grand opening celebration was held on Tuesday, January 21, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the University Village. The event featured live music, various booths, giveaways, and prizes.

To kick off the event and increase excitement, Dining Services Director Aaron Neilson, Marketing Director Edwin Santiago, Director of Foundation Housing Services Ken Fisher, Building 52 Manager Cody Medina, and Shop24 Vice President Andrew Heflich, cut a large red ribbon in front of Shop24.

Those who attended the event had the opportunity to try out the automated convenience store and got one free item of their choice. With nearly 200 items in Shop24, attendees had a wide selection to choose from—everything from boxes of cereal to laundry detergent.

Shop24 employees also conducted a raffle for a Microsoft Tablet PC. Cal Poly Pomona student Danielle was the lucky winner.

With a large turnout, enthusiastic attendees, and plenty of free items, the Shop24 grand opening was a notable success.

Congratulations, Suzanne!Suzanne Donnelly, Associate Director of the Bronco Bookstore, recently completed the requirements to renew the Certified Collegiate Retailer (CCR) designation through the National Association of College Stores (NACS). The CCR designation indicates skillful leadership, stewardship, and expertise in college store operations.

Poly Trolley Expands Its Menu Once Again

The Poly Trolley has enhanced its menu once again with new and exciting flavors.

The B.A.T. (bacon, avocado, and tomato with pepper jack cheese on sourdough bread) has been immensely popular since it was introduced last fall. The classic B.A.T. now has an extra-meaty counterpart; Poly Trolley guests can now order a B.A.T. with a savory layer of pulled pork.

For those in the mood for seafood, The Poly Trolley now offers fish tacos, with Mahi Mahi fish in tempura batter topped with coleslaw, chipotle sauce, and green onion in a corn tortilla. Sliced limes are served with the tacos to complement the flavors.

Tater tots have also been introduced to the menu. These new snacks can be ordered alone, but if you are craving something more filling, they are now inside the Poly Trolley’s popular breakfast burritos. Furthermore, if you can’t decide between a bacon, sausage, or soyrizo burrito, you can now order the combo breakfast burrito stuffed with all three.

A few drinks were also added to the Starbucks menu on the Poly Trolley, including iced passion tea, iced passion tea lemonade, and iced green tea.

To view the whole menu and find out where the truck is located, visit the website at www.polytrolley.com.The Combo Breakfast Burrito
