NATURE NOTES: MULCHLet’s start out by understand “what is mulch?” There are two types of mulch, inorganic (rocks, gravel, decorative rocks and even recycled rubber) and organic (bark, cedar or other chippings, grass clippings and pine needles etc.). Each has its own benefits. The inorganic will last a long time and rarely need to be replaced. The organic will overtime break down and add nutrients back into the soil. Here are some of the primary benefits to using mulch as a ground cover. The aesthetic reasoning is simple—it gives the landscape a more polished look. In the club business appearance is everything. There are so many types and forms of mulch your color and appearances are endless. Talk with your landscapers or a local landscaping company about all the available choices. The most financial beneficial reason to use mulch is also one of the most important sustainable reasons as well. Using Mulch increases moisture retention by up to 70%. This is possible because the mulch slows the evaporation process. By increasing water retention you will use less water and in turn spend less money on irrigation! For more information on Mulch please visit camplakejames.com member’s only section.
