February 2

nd

, 2020Presentation of the Lord

“Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace,

according to your word, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared

in the sight of all the peoples: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for

your people Israel.” Very often, having more light is not something we desire as it

forces us to confront something we really do not want to see. There can be comfort

found in darkness. It has an eerie sense of security to it. We do not have to chal-

lenge ourselves or be challenged and can simply exist in some fabricated state of

self-fabricated blissfulness. Jesus came to bring light, and it is a light that is resist-

ed by many and hated by some. It is a light that causes us to see things as they re-

ally are and not as we would want or need them to be.

It is no wonder then that Simeon boldly and honestly proclaims to Mary, “Behold,

this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that

will be contradicted and you yourself a sword will pierce so that the thoughts of

many hearts may be revealed.” We have to take the Gospel message as it is and

not just use those parts that are useful to us or more palatable. Taking Jesus at face

value can and will lead to turmoil and dissention. Hearts will be pierced. Whether

we like it, Jesus’ proclamation of what the world God created really ought to look

like has real and absolute social implications.

It has a lot to say about how we treat our brothers and sisters: spiritually, personal-

ly, economically, and globally. It has everything to do with the poor, the immi-

grant, the scared, the unborn, the vulnerable, the sick, and the broken. The light

opens us to a challenging, table-turning experience that may not be something we

want to see but shows us where we need to be.

Dear All Saints Parishioners:

As you may know, we celebrated Catholic Schools Week this past week (Jan. 26-31) here at All Saints and in all of our

Catholic schools nationwide. Last Sunday, we kicked off the week with an amazing 10:30am Mass hosted by our Kindergar-

ten and Eighth Grade students. This Mass was dedicated to all of you in the parish who have so generously supported our

school over the years. We also had days set aside days to honor and celebrate our school parents, students, and faculty.

On behalf of the All Saints School faculty, staff, and administrative team, I wish to thank you for the privilege to work with

you in partnership as parish and school each day. I look forward to the development of these wonderful connections and

endeavors in our shared mission of faith. This link is an essential component of our mission and it is certainly one of my

favorite things about working in this special community.

I am in awe of your wonderful families, and I am humbled each day by your incredibly diverse talents, interests, and means

of contributing to make this a very special and unique place. As most you of you know, the concept of Community is for me

the single most important aspect of what we do and how we do things. I often hear people speak of the feeling of family,

warmth, welcoming, and inclusion in our parish and school, and that has everything to do with what you bring every day as

parishioners with our school families, faculty/staff, and of course, the wonderful leadership of our pastor, Father Paul Jeya-

mani.

A warm thank you to you all for your commitment to our parish and school, to working in partnership and common mission,

and especially for your commitment to Catholic Education.

With gratitude,

Jon Myers, Principal

All Saints Catholic School

Ireland Pilgrimage –10 days

Cashel · Kerry · Dingle Peninsula · Shannon · Cliffs Of Moher · Corcomroe Abbey ·

Galway · Corrib Lake · Clonmacnoise · Knock

The practice of Pilgrimage is almost as old as recorded history. In Ireland, "The Land of

Saints and Scholars", you will journey through strong historic resonance with the early Chris-

tian scholars while in Clonmacnoise. Live through the medieval journeys in Glendalough, and

finish with heightened spirituality as you visit Our Lady of Knock - the Marian Site that is on

the same pedestal as Fatima and Lourdes. Open yourself to the message of "Knock", and to

the renewal of faith and prayer, which is so vital to our lives as Catholics. Journey to Ireland

for a Catholic Pilgrimage exploring sites built centuries ago. Join the millions of Pilgrims who have made Knock one of the

most popular Pilgrimage sites in the world. Visit famous cultural hubs like Dublin and Galway and enjoy the marvelous Cliffs

of Moher. Mass daily & spiritual activities will be offered throughout your journey. For further info or to register,

contact Shane or Eileen at 860-399-1785/ [email protected].
