Star Trek Saturday

Join us for out-of-this-world adventure and conversation on Saturday,

February 15 at 5:00PM for Star Trek Saturday, hosted by the

Guenthers. Bring a dish to share (but not revenge - it’s a dish best

served cold anyway).

St. George’s White Chili TODAY

The Super Bowl Sunday tradition continues! White chili (both

“Dragon’s Breath” (mild) and “Dragon’s Fire” (hot)) will be sold

TODAY, from noon to 3:00PM in the parish hall. Cost is $10/

quart for walk-ins.

Candlemas… Say What?

Today is the feast of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple, and

also traditionally the day of Candlemas (“Candle Mass”) when candles to

be used for the coming year were blessed.

Since it falls on a Sunday this year, we will open our service with a children’s

message followed by a procession of the children with (unlighted!) candles.

Join Pastor for a discussion about the Presentation during coffee hour!

The Valentine’s Dinner hosted by the junior and senior TURTLEs youth

groups is BACK! This popular event returns to the Parish Hall NEXT

Saturday, February 8 at 6:00PM. The cost for the three-course meal is

$10/adult and $5/child under 12. Entertainment will be provided! Sign up

on the sheet in the Parish Hall or call the office to reserve your spot!

Game Day at Mercy Care Center

The Evangelism and Social Ministry committee invites you to

continue your Epiphany journey of discovering God’s light by joining

us for a Game Day at Mercy Care Center (formerly Rosewood) on

Sunday, February 16 at 2:00PM. Spend a couple of hours helping residents

with bingo, visiting, sharing snacks and God’s love! All are welcome!

February 9, free blood pressure screenings will be held in the

parish hall following the worship service. You will be able to meet

our new parish nurse, Becky Schnitzius.

A Note about the “Blue Bag…”

Pastor Brian LOVES the enthusiasm with which children bring items in

the “blue bag” for the Children’s Message during worship, but he asks

that children please bring only ONE item in the bag for him to teach

about how that item tells us about God and our faith. Our time

limitations make it too difficult to talk about more than one item in the message

time. Thank you!

Be Like Jesus

This spring’s “Be Like Jesus” event for grades 3-12 will be held at Faith

Lutheran (O’Fallon) on March 27-28. The cost is $35 (grades 3-8) and $10

(grades 9-12, who serve as junior leaders). Forms & money are due to Melanie

no later than February 9. Adults are welcome to volunteer! Please see Melanie for forms

Weekly Health Tip!

February is American Heart Month, so we will share few heart health tips over the

next few weeks.

Quitting smoking is the best thing that can be done for the heart and for overall health.

Smoking is the most preventable cause of premature death in the United States, and

smokers have a higher risk of developing many chronic disorders, including atherosclerosis,

or the buildup of fatty substances in the arteries. When combined with other heart disease

risk factors, smoking increases the risks associated with those factors. Quitting is never

easy, but there are lots of helpful resources for those looking to start.
