I Turn To You LORD, In Time Of Trouble, And You Fill Me With the Joy of Salvation.

We are the Christian Community of Saint Maximilian Kolbe, a Catholic parish of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Embracing our many and diverse gifts, we are united in Christ Jesus. Challenged by the teachings of Our Lord, and inspired by the example of our Patron, we strive to serve God, and to minister to others, in prayer, sacrament, faith formation, and charity.

OUR PARISH MISSION

REFLECTIONS... Lent, the Church’s annual pre-baptismal retreat, prepares us to gather around the Easter font, renew our baptis-mal vows, and receive new life from the water as the elect are plunged into Christ’s death and resurrection. This core meaning is more or less available, depending on whether we journey with catechumens in the parish and on the vigor of our liturgical celebration of the Triduum. Some persist in seeing Lent as a lonely journey in the wilderness; yet this week we enter the Lenten fast in solidarity with one another. The smudged foreheads you will spy through-out Ash Wednesday on buses, street corners, and supermarket aisles remind you that you are hardly alone in your desire to enact a spring cleaning regime for your spiritual life. Long ago, this kind of repentance was available to Christians only once. Ashes and sackcloth were not raiment for a day, but permanent habits for public sinners. Fasting became a way of life, and if they sinned severely again, there was no hope of restored communion. Happily, this system did not endure. It produced reluctant Christians who even held back from baptism, like St. Augustine did, out of fear. Today we have recovered an ancient tradition that conversion and repentance are constant themes on life’s journey, and that Lent is an annual opportunity to revive our baptismal identity, both as individuals and communities. The Social Concerns & Outreach Ministry’s Mission Statement is: To raise the

consciousness of our Parish community concerning the social outreach mission of the church; to provide resources for the needy; to develop strategies for effective action to change difficult situations in people’s lives. There are many ways that we are able to help those that are in need of some assistance: • Food Collections for the Food

(4th Sunday of each month) • Mission Yahweh (3rd Saturday of

each month); • Back to School Supply Drive

HOLY SMOKE! The C.C.E. pupils were asked to draw a picture of their favorite scene from the Bible. One little boy presented the teacher with a drawing of a red sports car with an old bearded man in the front seat and a man and woman in the back seat. “Now just what Bible story is this picture supposed to illustrate”? Asked the puzzled teacher. “That,” replied the boy, “is a picture of God driving Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden.

“That Man is You,” men’s ministry, will meet this Friday, from 5:30 to 7:00 a.m. in Kolbe Hall. The group’s objectives are to: - identify the indispensable role of the family in salvation history from Calvary until today, - identify the Seven Steps to a Healthy, Happy, Holy Family. - provide the opportunity for men and their families to go on pilgrimage. Exul t Al l You Upright Of Heart

Thank you to all the Middle School and High School youth who participated in providing music for the 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Masses last Sunday. You were totally awesome and your talents helped uplift the prayers of our parish community. We need more musicians, both singers and instrumentalists, in grades 7 through high school to build a strong presence at our growing Youth Mass at 11:30 a.m. Please call Mary Alice at the parish office as soon as you can. We will announce a musician’s training session in the next 3 weeks.

Each Friday during Lent we travel the Way of the Cross. These “stations” are prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the Worship Space. We follow the way of Jesus from the time of His condemnation, to His death, to

His burial in the tomb. Make these Stations part of your own Lenten journey and stay for a “Fish Fry” sponsored by the Knights of Columbus immediately after.
