FROM THE PASTOR PARISH NEWS …”A leper came to Jesus and kneeling down begged him and said, ‘If you wish, you can make me clean.’ Moved with pity, He stretched out His hand, touched him, and said to him, ‘I do will it. Be made clean.’ The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean.” The Gospel, for this weekend, is one of many healings performed by Jesus. He was moved with compassion and great care for all people, especially those who were the outcasts and marginalized. The lepers were the ones no one else was willing to care for and help. It is to the children of God that He reached out with the greatest of tender care and mercy. You and I count on God’s mercy and the compassionate care of Jesus. He reaches out to us to bring healing and peace. He comes to strengthen us so we can do the work of the Lord and bring the healing mercy of Christ to all in their time of need.

…This weekend’s Gospel offers great food for thought, as we enter into the Annual Catholic Charities Appeal. While we do much in our community for our community, Catholic Charities has the ability to reach into the margins of our region and bring to all, in their time of need, the mercy and care of Jesus. Catholic Charities reaches out to those who are homeless…who are living under bridges….who are in situations of abuse…..who have no one to love and care for them….the lonely and broken hearted. Catholic Charities is really our ability to simply do what Jesus did in the Gospel today – bring healing and hope to those in need. Thanks to your amazing goodness, last year we were able to reach our ‘share’ of this important diocesan appeal. I am asking again, on behalf of those in need, to do what you can so they can have food, shelter, hope and healing in the name of Jesus. For more information about the essential work Catholic Charities does in Northeastern Ohio, visit our parish website.

…Our parish had a powerful experience of healing and compassion last Sunday at the 7:30 am Mass. One of our members was having some serious health issues during Mass. Thankfully, they are home and doing well now (Tuesday night). When I spoke with them on the phone this evening, they were so thankful for the outpouring of care and support they found in their parish family in this time of need. “If you were going to have an incident like this, we could not have been in a better place…the help and thoughtfulness.” Every day and everywhere are the perfect moments and places to bring the healing peace of Christ to all we meet.

…Last weekend I asked for some help to review the HR handbook for our parish.

Thanks be to God, and our good members, we had the perfect response of four of our members stepping forward….all experienced…and all eager to serve. This week I am asking for a few people who can sew. We have 18 adults preparing for Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil. We are very blessed as a parish family. Eight of these adults will be baptized. We need white robes for them. If you can help, or want to learn more, please let me know ([email protected]). Please also pray for these adults who desire to come to join us at the Table of the Lord.

…It’s hard to believe that Lent starts this (Ash) Wednesday. Today’s bulletin contains the Mass times and some of the many opportunities that our parish is offering to help all of us turn to the Lord on the path of healing and peace. We will focus on the Prayer of Saint Francis which gives us the recipe for holier, happier, healthier living. Our world is in desperate need of peace. Each of us needs to be instruments of God’s peace. Our Lenten prayer is that this peace, this better world, begins with each of us turning to the Lord. You will find the Prayer of Saint Francis literally all over the place. Please pray it often. Together, may we turn to the Lord and, in so doing, bring our world healing, mercy and peace.

…Make sure you grab a Little Black Book for your daily Lenten meditation. Stations of the Cross take place each Friday at 7 pm. There will be ample opportunities for confession and reconciliation. We actually have great presenters for our Lent Parish Mission and Lent Soup Suppers. All these are opportunities for you to connect more to the fullness of life that can only be found in Christ.

….Saint Ambrose School will start off the season of Lent with an Accreditation Visit for our State Licensure. It’s a process that takes place every six years. Mr. Baxendale, along with the faculty/staff, has worked very hard to prepare both a thorough self-study, along with an outlined plan for growth and development in the coming five years. Please keep this important process in your prayers this week. We are very blessed to have top tier educators on our review team. Their insights and findings will both acknowledge the great work taking place at SAS and also help clarify the path to helping us better respond to all of our students and their academic and faith formation needs. We strive to be Everything for Every Student….Everyday!

…This week we heard that SAS alum, Amanda Jancewicz, will be the salutatorian for her graduating class at Padua Franciscan High School. I also know that Ryan Muir (SAS alum) is at the top of his class at Brunswick High

School. Another SAS alum, Brian Schafer is also right up there at Walsh Jesuit High School. Our SAS graduates do exceptionally well in all their high school and college pursuits. Congrats and prayers for all our high school seniors in this very exciting time of your life.

…This Sunday evening at FIAT, all of our high school students will have the opportunity both to learn about and experience Eucharistic Adoration. In the busyness of their lives, which are also saturated with noise, many of our teens are finding Eucharistic Adoration as a very peaceful, prayerful, helpful way to center their lives on Christ. Feel free to join us on Sunday night. We will be in the Church at 7:15 pm. We also have Eucharistic Adoration every Monday from 9 am until 5 pm. The chapel is open every day for your prayer and reflection.

…This past week, our Vision 20/20 leadership team gathered together to review and wrap up the construction of the Parish Life Center and Rectory renovations. Both projects were on time and under budget. In the next few weeks, you will be receiving a complete report. I am very grateful to the Vision 20/20 Team for their help and guidance. WE are very blessed, as a parish, by those who have and are continuing to support the capital campaign. I am also very, very grateful for your continued support in the weekly collection. Together, we are working hard to serve the Lord and have the facilities to support our vibrant community of faith.

…I am asking that all of us make it to Church on Ash Wednesday. We are working hard to make it possible for all of us to come and be signed with ashes as a way of witnessing to our need to turn to the Lord. We have added a 6:30 am Mass for those who have to head off to work. All of our high school students are invited to meet at the REC CENTER at 6:50 am for Ashes on the Asphalt. Let us witness our need to turn to the Lord. Let us make a bold statement about our desire for a better world which happens when we turn to the Lord.

…Our Fish Fry Team is up and running. Join us on Ash Wednesday, and every Friday of Lent, for a great meal and wonderful company. All the proceeds will be used to replace the covering of the movable wall in Hilkert Hall/Gym. This will not only improve the appearance, more importantly, it will help control the sound, making for much better/more usable space.

…Prayers for you as we begin the season of Lent. Hope to see you on Ash Wednesday. God bless.

The Cupach family is one of our many great families who is ac ve at Saint Ambrose Parish and School. Eileen and Sco have four children; their daughters Kristen and Meghan are both students at Ohio University. Annie is in the eighth grade at Saint Ambrose and serves on the Student Council, and their son, Sco , is in fi h grade at Saint Ambrose.

Eileen and Annie were part of the leadership for the Saint Ambrose School Souper Bowl of Caring team a couple weeks ago. Under their leadership, the school’s team took the lead for the weekend – raising over $2,000 in dona ons and being the first team to sell out of their Super Bowl snack (puppy chow). Their efforts not only made it a successful fundraiser, but also provided an enjoyable, meaningful experience for the grade school students who shared their energy and enthusiasm with everyone who stopped by the event!

Come see our selec ons of books that feature prayers, thoughts, and reflec ons to help deepen your rela onship with God more each day and inspire you throughout your Lenten journey.

R H D Dr. Edward Sri, theologian, author, and speaker, unpacks the Joy of the Gospel, making it accessible and ac onable. In these brief reflec ons, Sri explores the things that hold us back, how we can open ourselves to God's love, and the difference this can make to our joyful proclama on of the Gospel.

C Y L G G ? Everyone has held a grudge; maybe it only lasted for a few minutes or maybe it lasted for years. Yet how do you go from being resen ul to forgiving? How can you let go of whatever bad thing happened? What if the reason you haven’t let go is because the act is unforgivable? This book gives insight into the possibility of forgiveness in all situa ons and es spirituality and the forgiving nature of God to the human ability to offer forgiveness.

There are many ways to "see" beyond the physical sense. When we say "I see" as a response, we're saying that we understand the point that is being made or the facts of a situa on at hand. With this in mind, we begin our study of conversion by considering our failure to "see" with God's eyes as a kind of blindness and our need for Christ to heal us as he healed Bar maeus, so that we too can indeed see.

Week 25| I’m really beginning to bulk up. I gained 6 ounces this week! I think most of it was muscle, but also some bone mass and some organ development. My taste buds allow me to dis nguish bi er, sweet, and sour. My lungs have developed so well, I’m now officially considered viable. Ma hew could live outside the womb. Each parent contributed 15,000 genes that determined not only what Ma hew looks like, but also how Ma hew interprets tastes, what Ma hew’s athle c abili es are, his allergies, health and much more. “Yet you drew me forth from the womb, made me safe at my mother’s breast.” (Psalm 22:10)

D C K N S B M , M 2 Is your child struggling from your divorce or separa on? Are you looking to help your child heal? Divorce Care for Kids (DC4K) is a scripture-based program designed to help children (aged 6-13) of families experiencing divorce and separa on. Each session is full of games, fun ac vi es, arts and cra s, stories, exercise, videos and music that are centered around a weekly theme.

Throughout Divorce Care for Kids, your children realize that they are not the only ones going through this. They develop friendships with others who understand how they feel. They will learn how to sort through their feelings and will learn how to have healthy rela onships with you, your family and with God. Best of all, children will learn how God’s love can strengthen them and help them turn tears to hope and joy.

One parent shared this: “A er my child came home from DC4K, he was a different kid. He was happy and laughing and we had one of the best mes just being silly that we had in a long me. I am looking forward to his con nued growth towards healing because of DC4K!!”

Our new series star ng on March 2 will be from 6:00-8:00 in the School. We will con nue to meet on Monday evenings, which coincides with the Divorce Care for adults support group.

If you think your child(ren) would benefit from Divorce Care for Kids and would like more informa on, or would like to register your child, please contact Lisa at [email protected].

PSR S H D God calls us to be “good stewards” of all He has given us. Our “gifts and talents” are all gifts from God.

Our 3rd grade students will be learning about “dignity” this week and how every person is special in God’s eyes. We all have our own uniqueness. We will empower our students to use their “gifts and talents” in serving others and to honor their dignity and the dignity of others. There are many options in achieving this goal: offering to help with chores around the house, writing a thank you note, or baking cookies and taking them to a shut-in.

Let us pray for our students to embrace their gifts and talents and share them, honoring the dignity of others.

F J ... MESSAGE

JUNIOR HIGH NEWS

[email protected]

Ash Wednesday is interesting because, contrary to popular belief, it is not a holy day of obligation. However, Mass attendance is at

an all-time high. People from all over town flock to church to receive a very tangible sign on their foreheads to display their faith in Christ—but it is much more than that. Last year, Pope Francis said, “Lent comes to us as a providential time to change course, to recover the ability to react to the reality of evil that always challenges us.” Indeed, Lent is a time to “turn away from sin and be faithful to the gospel.”

Your ashes are more than a sign. They are a re-commitment — a promise to wrestle with the evil that resides deep

within our hearts. Notice how Francis doesn’t talk about the evil that exists “out in the world” but the evil that resides within each of us. Will we be foolish enough to convince ourselves that we are flawless? Or will we have the courage to admit the mistakes that have been buried and ignored for so long.

As we prepare for Lent next week, may we have the courage to react to the evil that is “always challenging us,” and to let the physical sign on our foreheads lead us to a physical change and transformation in Christ.

Come join us as we remember this physical sign of our brokenness in the Recreation Center Parking Lot on February 18 for Ashes on the Asphalt at 6:50 am! We look forward to seeing all of you there!

Lent is a me to reflect and deepen our rela onship with God. Spend some me in prayer and ask the Lord how you can help your teen in his/her

Lenten journey.

Our Wednesday PSR students and their families are invited to par cipate in PSR Ash Wednesday Prayer Service on Wednesday, February 18, at 4:30 pm in Church. Students and families are asked to go directly to Church for ashes (this is not a Mass).

“Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, which begins Lent. But before Lent comes Tuesday, February 17, which is Mardi Gras. I guess it is human nature to want to splurge before taking on a sacrifice. Decide a family penance for Lent, but plan a family treat for next Tuesday.” - Susan Vogt.net

Each month we feature paren ng ps like the one above in our monthly emails. We are excited to welcome Susan Vogt, na onal speaker and author of these emails and award winning books! She will be speaking during our Lent Parish Mission on February 22-24 from 6:45-8:00 pm in Church. Monday Junior High PSR Students will a end the February 23 session as Susan speaks on the joys and challenges of family life— please join your teen!
